Hello everyone, welcome to Japan!
I am Mari, a Japanese friendly woman- English fluent speaker - enjoying life to discover hidden gems in KYOTO and recently married to my French husband.
As you see on my profile picture, I am not only a guide but also a calligraphy artist.
+++As a guide+++, I have conducted many foreign tourists to the major sightseeing spots such as the UNESCO World Heritage temples & castles, either my favorite places & hidden gems where you can see the local craftsmen.
My tours are "tailor-made" , I will create my itinerary based on your ideas and your interests to make your visit memorable.
Thanks to my French husband, who is also guide, I learned a lot about the points foreign tourists could wonder in our culture. Personally, I like to show everything, especially to focus on small details and explain what you may not find in guide books.
I can also help you to book good restaurants, special shows or activities, tea ceremony, etc... if you prefer.
I can also guide you in Himeji, Hiroshima or other south districts, if you pay my transportation fee.
+++As a calligraphy teacher+++, I consider that calligraphy is not about writing with the complex Japanese "kanji" alphabet. Calligraphy is a kind of art which enables you to express your thought and relax your mood through your brush & writing style.
Let's experience with me a way of meditation, focusing on your brush to make a nice looking stroke, focusing on the sound the brush and focusing on the nice smell of the ink that helps your body and your mind to relax.
I am looking forward to discovering Japanese culture with you. :)

Mari was an excellent guide! She's friendly and very energetic! It was so nice of her to fetch us from our hotel and sending us all the way back to Osaka after the tour. She has a lot of knowledge of the places she brought us to. We've requested for a customized tour which focuses on less commercialized places and she delivered! Mari was also sensitive to our dietary needs and we enjoyed such a lovely meal at one of her favorite restaurant. We really had an awesome time in Kyoto and wished we had more time in our hands. We will not hesitate to re-engage her as our guide on our next trip to Japan!! Thank you Mari! ❤️
Thank you for your amazing review! I appreciate your comments. :) Lin and you are a very nice couple! I had a great time with you showing haunted places. I would like to take you to more scary places in the Kansai district, which are not found easily online.❤️ I will be very happy to hear from you again whenever you visit in Japan. Thank you so much again for the amazing day!!
Mari was a delightful tour guide! We are an American family of five (children ages 9,7,4) and we only had one day in Kyoto, so we thought we would maximize our time with a tour guide. Mari and I had a couple of email exchanges before the tour to figure out the details based on what I'd been reading about and what I thought we would like to do. Mari met us in our hotel lobby on time and we talked about the area before heading to the train station to then go to the Arashiyama region. She was very knowledgeable about local culture and able to answer any question we threw at her while traveling to our destination. We saw a couple of temples and visited a small village where there were local restaurants and shops. It was a beautiful walk to the village from the temple and my whole family enjo... read more
Thank you again for joining my tour. I had a very nice time with you! Actually I used to be a teacher for elementary school students, that is why I felt relaxed all day to be with your kids around. I would love to have you and your family again whenever you visit Japan. Next time when you come to Japan, I will also show hidden gems in Nara where your kids can move a lot and enjoy nice views. I am sure you would like it. I am looking forward to seeing you again. Thank you so much!
I asked for something not touristy and Mari did not disappoint. We wandered through a very special, older but vibrant neighbourhood in Osaka, full of interesting activities and people. No tourists. With Mari explaining things and translating for chats with locals. We ended at a private museum of storytelling with its curator/storyteller. Mari is a great guide with excellent English.
Thank you so much for your review! It was memorable to explore different sides of Osaka. I am also happy to help your discovery. I am more than welcome to have you again in the future, if you come back to Osaka or even Kyoto. I hope Osaka will not change that much when you come back. Again, thank you so much and have a good time in Japan!
We had an excellent day with Mari who customised our 5 hour tour to suit. Mari has very good communication skills and gave clear instructions for our travel from Kobe port to Kyoto Station. Her organisation of our time in Kyoto was excellent suggesting various modes of travel to navigate the city. We visited Fushimi Inari-taisha and the Golden pavilion. We had lunch at Kyoto CBD and then a walking tour through the market area and the Gion. We highly recommend Mari.
Thank you again for the last trip. I still remember the moment when we encountered Maiko's debut. ;) You and Gerard were both very nice to me. I could conduct my tour without any stress. I am always welcome to help your trip in Kyoto. Next time I will show the different area where we firstly planed to visit at the second day. I am looking forward to seeing you both again in the future. Thank you for joining my tour.
Mari was a super guide with excellent English who had a very rounded knowledge on all the sites we saw and who gave insightful explanations to all of our question. The plan presented to us for the day was thorough and included all of our resqests. Marie was a pleasure to be with and made our day a wonderful experience, we can only highly recommend her. Thank you again Mari. Kim and Ben.
Thank you Kim and Ben for having me. You were very kind and respectful to me and local Japanese. It was very pleasant to re-discover the good points of Japanese culture with you, as well as talking randomly about social issues, history and customs. Your smile was contagious and made everyone around happy. I would never forget what we experienced in Nara. I would be a pleasure to see you again in the future. Thank you so much again for the great day! Mari
