Hello everyone, welcome to Japan!
I am Mari, a Japanese friendly woman- English fluent speaker - enjoying life to discover hidden gems in KYOTO and recently married to my French husband.
As you see on my profile picture, I am not only a guide but also a calligraphy artist.
+++As a guide+++, I have conducted many foreign tourists to the major sightseeing spots such as the UNESCO World Heritage temples & castles, either my favorite places & hidden gems where you can see the local craftsmen.
My tours are "tailor-made" , I will create my itinerary based on your ideas and your interests to make your visit memorable.
Thanks to my French husband, who is also guide, I learned a lot about the points foreign tourists could wonder in our culture. Personally, I like to show everything, especially to focus on small details and explain what you may not find in guide books.
I can also help you to book good restaurants, special shows or activities, tea ceremony, etc... if you prefer.
I can also guide you in Himeji, Hiroshima or other south districts, if you pay my transportation fee.
+++As a calligraphy teacher+++, I consider that calligraphy is not about writing with the complex Japanese "kanji" alphabet. Calligraphy is a kind of art which enables you to express your thought and relax your mood through your brush & writing style.
Let's experience with me a way of meditation, focusing on your brush to make a nice looking stroke, focusing on the sound the brush and focusing on the nice smell of the ink that helps your body and your mind to relax.
I am looking forward to discovering Japanese culture with you. :)

We had a fantastic day with Mari. First, Mari gave us a calligraphy lesson that taught us a lot in the time we had available. She is a patient teacher and has a wonderful sense of humor. We loved the calligraphy letters we drew. Mari is also knowledgeable and has an excellent ability to communicate in English and to communicate the subtle points of Japanese culture and social interactions. She was also flexible about our changing the schedule and priorities for what we did during the day--she made everything fit into the schedule and time we had. In addition, she was great in navigating the train system and helping us get to the city we were visiting without any trouble. Mari helped us visit some of our Japanese relatives, served as a translator, and helped us in general understanding the... read more
We have just returned from an exceptional couple of days touring Kyoto in large part due to the superb itineraries and guiding support of Mari. As visit-time visitors to Japan and Kyoto, in particular, we greatly valued Mari's insightful suggestions of sites to visit and cultural experiences to enjoy that made our visit so memorable. She is very kind, helpful, knowledgeable and accommodating. We highly recommend Mari as your preferred guide when visiting Kyoto and its region.
We spent 1.5 days with Mari, that is, half day afternoon tour in Osaka and whole day tour in Kyoto. I'd say we hit jackpot in selecting Mari as our tour guide. Her energy is limitless and set the tone of our tour. She is a bundle of joy, always smiling and making us feel at home in a foreign land. Her love for her country is contagious. She is the best tour guide we had in all our previous overseas trips. We walked around not with a tour guide but with a good friend. She looked after us, frequently checking headcount before and after leaving a place or train. She would tell stories, history, culture before we enter a place and this makes us see the place beautifully. And when we are inside, she will continue to tell the stories, pointing out very interesting details of the place. ... read more
Mari, we miss you already! The 2 separate days we had with Mari was really enjoyable. She went above and beyond and she is always so cheerful and all smiles throughout the day. It made our tour pleasant. She is so helpful especially prior to the tours she was so accommodating to our wishes - where we wanted to go, to see, to do. She suggested all the places we should eat within our budget. A lot of suggestions! She is so extremely knowledgeable not just in Osaka but she took us to Himeji and Kobe and she knew it all. Thank you so much Mari, our last few days in Japan with you was the perfect ending to our trip.
Thank you so much for this amazing review. I also miss you all, you were a lovely australian group!! All of you were very nice to me, smiling, talkative and funny. I was in the group as a guide, but I had a lot of good laughs during the tours. I appreciated so much your kindness. If you would discover Japan again, please let me know. I am always here to guide you. ;) I am looking forward to meeting you again in the future!
Our incredible experience with Mari started when we first contacted her a few weeks before our trip. We wanted to book a tour during our very quick one day stay in Kyoto and we wanted to figure out how to hit as many highlights in the area as we could, during that short period of time. Mari was very responsive to all of our inquiries and helped us to develop an amazing itinerary. She created a plan that helped us to get to see all the major site seeing points as well as some of the less known but still very interesting/beautiful sights of Kyoto. On the day of our actual tour, she was very punctual and met us exactly on time at our arranged meetup point. Right away, she was funny, sweet and engaging and we knew we were going to have a good day with her. She is a very interesting person ... read more
