I have been an Interpretive Tour Guide for 17 years. I have lived in Japan for 17 years. I provide private and semi-private interpretive guiding services for English-speaking visitors in the Kansai region of Japan. I am a Shrine and Temple professional. As an ex-Executive Assistant Food and Beverage Manager/Director, I know food and I know Japanese Sake and I want to show you how fun and interesting Japanese food and sake can be!

I rarely write reviews but I feel I have to today. My wife and I had such a fun day with Richard, and I think we both feel we made a new friend. You'll hear not only the detailed history of the sites he takes you to, but you'll also get some great stories that make the information fun. It's almost impossible to really figure out on web sites who to choose for a guide, but you'll be safe with Richard for sure! Have fun.
Thank you John, you guys were a hoot! I am happy you had a good time and thank you for hanging in there with the area we covered! I will try again upon your return with more sake samples LOL! Please take care and come again! Kind regards, Richard
I can not recommend Richard more, it was a great experience spending the day with him. As it was our first day in Kyoto and Japan he helped us to understand customs and guided us through places we could never had found ourselves.
Thank you Rebecca, you are so kind. It was a pleasure spending time with your family and please come again. We will go more local next time!! :) Kind regards, Richard
Richard provided our family with a fun and very informative tour of Kyoto. He was as accommodating and knowledgeable as a guide could be. He gets a 10.
I traveled to Japan with my 2 college age sons and had arranged 3 1/2 days with Richard to tour us in Kyoto, Osaka and Nara. The best choice I could have ever made!! We had a blast! Richard was super knowledgeable but most of all he was fun and he made us feel so welcome. It was like touring Japan with a dear friend. We made some terrific memories with Richard and can’t wait to come back to tour with him again!!! Thank you for all the memories Richard. You are the best!!! Fondly, Jill, Jared and Asher
Thank you Jill, you guys were amazing! Both Jared and Asher you can see are going to go far. Can't wait to see Asher on TV someday! LOL Wish your husband would have made it. Next time sedate hime with Sake before the flight. You are pro now! Thank you for everything and let me know if there is anything that I can ever do for you. Enjoy the Umeshu!!!! Kind regards, Richard
Richard's passion for Japan really shines through - you can feel his deep respect for the country and his insight into Japanese history and culture. Our tour took us to truly off-the-beaten paths that even some native Japanese miss out on. Our tour was a very long day (be prepared to walk and travel) but definitely well worth it. And the sake tasting definitely helped. I wholeheartedly recommend Richard for his expertise, friendliness and passion. You won't find a stronger advocate for Japan!
Thank you guys fr coming along on such a long day but to be able to see the oldest Shrine in Japan and the place where the first Emperor walked, is like you said, something most Japanese do not do. Hope you liked the Lunch also! Oh, and Sake ALWAYS helps! Thank you again and I hope to see you again. If you could take the time to write on my TripAdvisor page and let them know you found me on TripleLights, I would deeply appreciate it. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g298566-d13416350-Reviews-Spirits_of_Japan-Osaka_Osaka_Prefecture_Kinki.html
