"Hi, my name is Koichi. Thank you for your interest in my profile and my tours.
I am a licensed tour guide specializing in the City of Kyoto. I have a great love for Kyoto City, from its major tourist attractions to some of its lesser known, tranquil and peaceful sites. I would be glad to conduct the tour according to your interests and share with you my knowledge of the city's rich history as well as its cultural and seasonal events.
Since both my high school and university days were located in Kyoto, I know not only all the city’s shrines and temples but also great local restaurants that serve traditional Japanese cuisine at a reasonable price. So, for example, if you are interested in a traditional Izakaya experience, please let me know, I know the perfect place and I will be glad to escort you there after the tour.
As an added bonus, I am an experienced, award winning photographer and I would be happy to take photos of you during the tour with my DSLR camera and then email them to you after the tour.
Additionally, I love motorcycle touring as my hobby and I enjoy taking pictures of Kyoto’s beautiful landscape. Therefore, talking about and showing off Kyoto’s scenery with my guests is one of my pleasures as well as explaining the traditional Kyoto culture.
My native city of Otsu is famous for Lake Biwa which is located just 10 minutes train ride from Kyoto station. It is not only an ideal location for the easy access to the ancient capital city but also for having an amazing visitor’s viewing location.
Therefore, whether you are wishing to explore Kyoto’s traditional heritage, sample the fantastic food that Kyoto offers or take a trip off the beaten path, I am the guide for you!

Absolute best guide we had in Japan. Knowledgeable, amazing English, loves his job, and most importantly loves Kyoto. Highly highly recommend!!!!
Koichi and I had few exchanges on how the day should go.He met us at the hotel lobby and was there before we arrived. We visited some parts of Kyoto which we would not probably have visited by ourself. On the journey to visit he explained us several things, had a print in French to explain etc. He brought us to a hidden local restaurant too for lunch. On top of it, he took some pics of our family, which is a great service too. Thanks a lot Koichi for this day.
Dear Pierre, Thank you for your warm message! I had a great time with you too. Looking forward to meeting you in the future. Merci beaucoup! Koichi
We loved our experience of touring Kyoto with Koichi. He is extremely knowledgeable about everything regarding the city, really knows the historical background inside and out. He took us to his favorite temple which isn't as well known to tourists, and it became our favorite temple as well. Not only did he make the perfect itinerary for us, he made sure to take us to the best lunch spots for authentic food! Highly recommend!
Dear Nicole, Thank you for your review and message! Hope to see you again in the future. Koichi
Koichi is a delight guide. Although his English accent is at time difficult to understand (his writing is perfect though), he is attentive, polite, organized and extremely helpful. He went above and beyond to ensure a smooth day for all of us. The soba experience near the Imperial Palace was a great one to remember. Over all, we enjoyed our day with Koichi very much and would highly recommend him. Also we appreciated the thoughtful gift he gave our teenage daughters at the end of the tour. Thank you Koichi!
Dear Giao, Thank you for your warm words. I had a great time with your family too. Looking forward to seeing you in the future. Koichi
We spent the morning and early afternoon with Koichi in Kyoto. Kochi made it very easy to get from one place to another in the short time we had - there is a lot to be said for local knowledge - and having grown up in Kyoto, Koichi definitely has this. It was raining on our tour day, and Koichi’s plan B suggestions were perfect. We spent the morning at Fushimi Inari Shrine then the bamboo Forrest followed by sushi lunch at small, but very nice sushi restaurant. We then spent the early afternoon at the Nishi markets which is definitely a place you want to have a local pointing out what everything is. The highlight of the day was the 2nd row seats Koichi pre-purchased for us to see the once a year (in May) Geisha dance show. We would never have known it was on, let alone have been able to ge... read more
