"Hi, my name is Koichi. Thank you for your interest in my profile and my tours.
I am a licensed tour guide specializing in the City of Kyoto. I have a great love for Kyoto City, from its major tourist attractions to some of its lesser known, tranquil and peaceful sites. I would be glad to conduct the tour according to your interests and share with you my knowledge of the city's rich history as well as its cultural and seasonal events.
Since both my high school and university days were located in Kyoto, I know not only all the city’s shrines and temples but also great local restaurants that serve traditional Japanese cuisine at a reasonable price. So, for example, if you are interested in a traditional Izakaya experience, please let me know, I know the perfect place and I will be glad to escort you there after the tour.
As an added bonus, I am an experienced, award winning photographer and I would be happy to take photos of you during the tour with my DSLR camera and then email them to you after the tour.
Additionally, I love motorcycle touring as my hobby and I enjoy taking pictures of Kyoto’s beautiful landscape. Therefore, talking about and showing off Kyoto’s scenery with my guests is one of my pleasures as well as explaining the traditional Kyoto culture.
My native city of Otsu is famous for Lake Biwa which is located just 10 minutes train ride from Kyoto station. It is not only an ideal location for the easy access to the ancient capital city but also for having an amazing visitor’s viewing location.
Therefore, whether you are wishing to explore Kyoto’s traditional heritage, sample the fantastic food that Kyoto offers or take a trip off the beaten path, I am the guide for you!

We spent the morning and early afternoon with Koichi in Kyoto. Kochi made it very easy to get from one place to another in the short time we had - there is a lot to be said for local knowledge - and having grown up in Kyoto, Koichi definitely has this. It was raining on our tour day, and Koichi’s plan B suggestions were perfect. We spent the morning at Fushimi Inari Shrine then the bamboo Forrest followed by sushi lunch at small, but very nice sushi restaurant. We then spent the early afternoon at the Nishi markets which is definitely a place you want to have a local pointing out what everything is. The highlight of the day was the 2nd row seats Koichi pre-purchased for us to see the once a year (in May) Geisha dance show. We would never have known it was on, let alone have been able to get these great seats. We would definitely recommend Koichi as your local tour guide
We had one full day in Kyoto; we wanted to leave with a flavor of the city. We visited a variety of destinations via cab, got in and out quickly, and moved on to the next. Koichi demonstrated himself to be intelligent (he holds a degree in Economics); highly skilled at his job; and attentive to all the details. I would recommend him without reservation to plan and escort you on your tour, purchase tickets and get you safely back to your hotel. We found his English to be very adequate and he responded to all of our questions in an intelligent manner. Koichi took us to a splendid restaurant that was not only delicious; but offered copious serving; at a great value too! He suggested we see the 181st annual spring dance performance of the Kyoto Pontochō district. It was a unique Japanese performance inspired by Shakespeare's "Midsummer Night's Dream" and interpreted by Maiko (apprentices) and Geiko (Geishas). My wife and I agreed that neither of us have ever witnessed a more elegant, beautiful and choreographed production in our lives. The women were beautiful; their Kimonos were works of art; and the Geiko orchestra transported us to a place far away. Thanks Koichi for a most memorable visit.
Koichi was wonderful. He coordinated with us prior to our visit to plan our day and ensure we saw the things important to us. He planned a great day that was well paced. We had plenty of time to spend in each location and did not feel rushed. He took us to a fantastic little place for lunch that we never would have found on our own. I could eat every meal there. He also took extra care to accommodate my travel partner’s fish allergy. Koichi was kind, knowledgeable and thorough. We highly recommend him as a tour guide.
We remember Koichi as the guide who brought us to an unforgettable restaurant, Nozomi, in Kyoto. Other than that, we have a good trip to the Imperial palace and watch a wonderful Geisha performance. It was difficult to make a conversation and established a rapport with Koichi as he is not very well versed in English and many times, could not understand our questions.
We had the opportunity to discover beautiful corners of Kyoto . Impossible to found without Koichi. He show us local place and amazing restaurant for lunch . He introduce us to Gheiko dance place taking care to organize everything according to our needs ( we have one child 4 years old) MANY THANKS Koichi. Marco Ania & Leonardo
