Our tour started with me forgetting something in the room. Next came the zipper on our daypack breaking and having to find an alternative to carry our things. I lost my hat later to cap it all off (pun intended). As someone who is follicallly challenged, hats are a necessity on sunny days. Rick was very patient and helped offer solutions to each problem that arose. Rick never seemed to get flustered when things did not go according to schedule. He was very knowledgeable in the history and details of the places that we visited, especially Nijo-jo castle. We doubt that we could have found our way around the subway by ourselves. There are just a few signs in English. Fewer signs in English than the train system has and you wind around several times to get down to the two subway lines. We are very thankful we had a guide like Rick and would recommend him to anyone wanting an English speaking guide.
When we visited Kyoto it was my husband's birthday. I wanted to do something special and Rick pre-arranged to have a very delicious beautiful birthday cake made and delivered to the restaurant where we were going for lunch. My husband was quite surprised! He also suggested we take a boat ride on the canal and booked the tickets for us in advance. My understanding is these boat trips sell out very quickly. It was a lovely ride amidst the cherry blossoms. Rick was very flexible and worked with me as I changed my mind several times as to our itinerary and the day of the tour we ended up changing things again based on how we felt that day. In all, it was a lovely day in Kyoto.
I would definitely endorse Rick to make your tour an enjoyable and well planned tour. Even before our tour began, I know my family will enjoy the 3 hr kyoto tour. Rick was fast in responding to all my queries and was most helpful in suggesting to store our luggage in coin lockers in train station. We went to Fushimi Inari shrine, Nijo Castle and Nishiki market. We went beyond the 3 hr time, and he did not charge us extra. In the train station, he made sure we used the escalator because he saw we were tired of walking. I would definitely contact Rick again when I go back to Kyoto.
Rick is beyond excellent! My friend and I both agreed - he is the best tour guide we have ever had! He went above and beyond for us!! We loved having him as our guide and appreciated the insight he offered at each site along the way. He helped us tremendously with navigating around Kyoto. He is beyond kind and such a gentleman - carrying my suitcase throughout the station for me - and that's just a small fragment of the kindness he showed!! Rick's English was very good and he understood everything we said which can't be said of the other tour guides we worked with. Rick was truly the best in every way!!! If you need a tour guide definitely book Rick!!
