I am a government certificated tour guide. I love cooking, eating, meeting new people, discovering new culture, finding fresh seasonal dishes at hidden restaurants and bars! I especially am good at guiding locally popular eateries and restaurants cooking local/fresh ingredients (Fresh seafood, mountain vegetables, locally grown vegetables) into wonderful dishes either traditional Japanese cuisine or great Japanese ingredients with modern flair.
I've traveled around the world twice and visited about 30 countries. When I think of my best memories in my past travel experiences, it's always meeting/ talking with the local people and experiencing new culture. Now, I'm in Japan! This is my time to prepare the wonderful experience to my guests! I'd love to show you around the famous places, as well as hidden gems or bunch of restaurants/bars/places loved by locals. I would be more than happy if I can help you to experience real Japanese life through my guide. I'd love you to have a great stay in Japan:-)

We spend one day with Mika, in and around Takayama. She picked us up at our Ryokan and then we went to the morning market in Takayama, where local farmers and producers told us about their products. We loved it. Later went for a stroll through the village and had a wonderful lunch with local food at a traditional restaurant, before spending the afternoon in nearby Shirakawa-go. Mika is a very knowledgable guide who speaks excellent English. The day was a lot of fun, and we learned a lot about living in Japan (not just in Takayama), through the interesting conversations with Mika.
Our trip to Shirakawa-go with Mika was very rewarding. It was our second trip there with my husband. Since it was the first time for four members of my family, my husband and I decided to have a private tour, Triplelights highly recommended Mika to be our guide. Mika gave us a tour that was so enjoyable specially with her good command of the English language. Inspite of the bad weather that day, it did not matter to us because she even showed us her “secret place” a beautiful spot away from the crowd where we had pictures taken. Lastly, she brought us to a special place to have lunch which served good buckwheat soba. An experience we never had before. By the time she brought us back to our ship in Kanazawa Port, we felt we gained a good friend in the person of Mika. Sincerely, Connie R... read more
My husband and I scheduled two private tours with Mika in Hida-Takayama: a night at a local izakaya to learn about the town’s food culture and a morning tour of two local sake breweries. Mika was super friendly and knowledgeable! Even though we came into town on the last day of the Spring festival, she was able to find a great izakaya for us to visit and introduced us to some local food and drink we otherwise wouldn’t have been able to try. The next morning, she took us to two local sake breweries for a behind the scenes tour of the facility and lesson from the brewers on how sake is made. We learned about the different between fresh and aged sake, and got to taste the difference between the sakes. It was truly a highlight of our trip! I can’t recommend Mika highly enough!
Went on an amazing foodie driven tour of Wajima in the Noto Peninsula. Our amazing guide Mika took us to see the Wajima fish market for sashimi breakfast, Senmaida rice fields and to a salt farm dating back many generations where we blended our own salts. We also got to forage our own Kaga mountain vegetables with help of a local expert. Then we gave them to a local celebrity chef who Tempura’d them and served them to us around a traditional hearth. I could learn to like vegetarian meals after that one. Finally, we did some Sake tasting with a locally famous Toji sake master at his family’s brewery and tasted a Koshu (aged)Sake that was his age - 30. Then we had a surprise viewing of some of the best Sakura we saw on the trip. It was a really special and delicious day. Mika went above and... read more
