Mana was an excellent tour guide. She was extremely patient with our family of 4 (2 kids ages 15 & 12). I am still surprised at how much she was able to fit into our day. There is absolutely NO way we would've been able to see 1/2 of what she was able to share with us. While she is from Kyoto, she speaks English quite well. She made sure to cover all of our wishes despite it being a very busy day in Kyoto (Jan 2nd). We saw beautiful temples, shrines, bamboo forest, monkeys (she's in great shape by the way - we requested to see the monkeys and it was quite a hike up the mountain), shopping, Gion, etc. She knew the buses and trains very well. My husband and I were very relieved we didn't have to figure it out. She also, made sure we knew of the special local stores for matcha, treats, bambo... read more
Dear Michelle. Thank you so much for taking time and a wonderful review. It was very nice to hear from you because some shops were closed during New Year week. You have such a nice and fun family! I hope to see you again!!
Mana is efficient, helpful and completely professional. We had 5 tourist activities in Kyoto in 8 hours, including seeing the (snow) monkeys and she helped us accomplish them all and even more. She is knowledgeable and was helpful at all attractions, as well as recommended an excellent restaurant for lunch. Mana is extreme fit so be prepared for a brisk work out in trekking all around Kyoto.
Dear Daniel. Thank you very much for your great review. I enjoyed happy talking with you all the way to the end of the tour. Please come again Kyoto in autumn color season. MANA
Mana was our guide for two of us (Americans - father and 11 year old son). She came up with a plan to help us make the most of our one day in Kyoto and was great about guiding us through and teaching us about Kyoto sites! I found her English was fine and I would recommend to others! Thanks so much Mana!
Dear Chris.Thank you for giving me five stars. Although it was rainy and cold this end of the year, I hope you enjoyed your tour here in Kyoto despite of the crowd and time constraints. You are very much welcome with your son in coming back here with the 10 yen coin.
An excellent itinerary. Went at a good pace. Saw a lot. Mana showed good judgement on what to do, what to explain, and how to get around. Went on around 10 subway trains and buses. Kinkakuji temple and Arashiyama were highlights. As were the special streets in Kyoto one would struggle to find by oneself.
Dear Richard. You are full of positive energy and nice. I appreciate that very much.I could proceed my tour 1.5 times faster than usually. Also, I could enjoy talking to your daughters and son which made me very happy. The weather was very good, but it's winter so you could not see all the beauty of Japan.I am looking forward to seeing you in Japan in spring or autumn. Please come to us again. Thank you.
We met Mana at Kyoto Station at 9am at Kyoto Station at the scheduled time, then started a day of touring Kyoto city, which included Bamboo place. Over all we had an excellent day with Mana. She prepared the day well in advanced. She took us to where we agreed to visit, and explained about each place we visited in detail. We also understood a lot more about Japanese culture and how they live their lives. I do recommend Mana as your tour guide. At few times, we did struggle (to some degree) to understand some items from her pronunciations. But perhaps, may be because we are also Asian-American living in USA, and our English speaking is also not perfect either. Perhaps, to other people, this may not be any issue. Other than that, her energy, effort, detail planning, and her help for the day ... read more
Dear Tony. Thank you for your FIVE STARS review! I was so happy. You must have many good pictures. Kyoto doesn't only have the north and East part but other places too. So next time when you come, we can visit more places in depth.
Mana is very good tour guide. She is patient, thoughtful and accommodating our request for an evening tour. She is flexible in rearranging the tour to avoid sites that we have already seen. She purchased advance tickets for us which save a lot of time at the gate for the evening tour of the castle. We would not hesitate to recommend Mana!
Dear Tammy. Thank you for letting me join part of special family trip in Kyoto and for the great review. Even though our time was limited , we were lucky to see the light show of Nijyo castle. I appreciate you as it was first time for me but I also enjoyed the show. I still have many things and hidden spots to show you in Kyoto. I'm looking forward to the next time. Thank you again.
Mana took care of everything! We took a number of trains and subways to get to our destinations and Mana navigated our trip with ease. It would have taken us all day to get to just one of these areas so having Mana saved us both time and money. All the while she shared interesting facts about the places we visited and also taught us some interesting points about Japanese writing. When we wanted to stop for coffee, she took us to a specific shop that was charming and had a small Japanese garden just outside the window. On the spur of the moment she saw an opportunity for us to attend a tea ceremony that was just about to begin. For only $5, we experienced the tea ceremony that included the most delicious chestnut sweet and a healthy matcha tea made ceremoniously for each of us. ... read more
Dear Sharon. Thank you very much for such a warmhearted review. Thanks for the multiple visits to Japan. It was great to have you around and I really enjoyed the conversation with you, as you have vast knowledge about Japan and are even eager to learn more about her. Please come to Japan again. I'm always waiting for you!
We wanted to see as much as possible in one day and Mana delivered! We covered tons of ground and she navigated by foot, bus, taxi and train like a true professional. She was generous with her time and knowledge. It was well worth the price.
Thank you very much for the kind review . Our schedule was so tight because we visited a lot of places. I appreciated your tolerance and cooperation nevertheless I walked fast. Please come back to Kyoto again. There are still many places to see including "monkey mountain". I'm looking forward to having you again soon.Give my regards to your friends
Because of Mana's knowledge of the city, we were able to navigate many roads and covered many sights. I think she planned the tour well and managed it efficiently. Without her guidance, we would most certainly have lost our way. Even though it went beyond our schedule, she added a visit to the textile centre where we saw a fashion show of kimonos and obi.
Dear Gloria. I appreciate your feedback.I was surprised that you were so strong and healthy, as you walked fast and for a long period of time. I could add one more place to your itinerary.I was happy to find a nice restaurant at Gion. Please stay as happy, healthy and fit as you are. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
Mana filled in at the last minute for our original guide and provided a great experience in Kyoto. She was extremely patient with us and managed to find the perfect balance of moving things along, while also allowing my family enough time to browse the sites and shops without feeling rushed. Mana knew the city very well and really provided the perfect introduction to Kyoto that we were looking for. I would recommend Mana to anyone visiting Kyoto!
Dear Pam.I was relieved to get your good review as I was a substitute guide. My plans usually include a visit to one or two more places but we were so busy. Your plan had enough time to explore the Kiyomizu, Yasaka and Gion ditrict fully. I was able to enjoy the tour without caring about the time. I’m thankful that I got to have the opportunity of meeting lovely and courteous your family.
Our group of 7 people from NZ, Australia, China, and the Philippines had an excellent day with Mana. We had communicated itinerary ideas ahead of time by email, sorted our meeting arrangements, and were duly met on time in our hotel lobby. After introductions, we then set off on our journey for the day using an easy mixture of walking, buses, subway, and taxis. The sightseeing aspect was great, went off without a hitch, at a good pace, and with knowledgeable insights as we went. Mana's English is good, so none of us had any trouble understanding her. She was also friendly and flexible with arrangements on the fly if we needed. Our group were delighted with our day. Thanks Mana, most appreciated! Dear Marcus. Thank you very much for your wonderful review for my tour. How happy I was share a good day with your group . I sincerely wish that your trip to Japan will be filled with pleasant memories. I'd be happy if you sent my best regards to all of your members. Best regards
Our day with Mana was full of many highlights as she expertly navigated us through a series of trains, buses and taxis to arrive at Kinkaku-ji, the bamboo forest, and the textile center, among other sights. Along the way she took time to explain some cultural history and background and to give us some simple lessons on Japanese characters and writing, which we greatly appreciated. We also went through some interesting shopping areas and took time to stop and buy some lovely items such as small wooden earrings and silk Christmas ornaments. Our sushi and tempura lunch ( she gave us a choice of steak or sushi restaurants) was delicious. We also saw a kimono fashion show, observed silk kimonos being designed and woven, and ended the day with tea and a demonstration of making beautifully arti... read more
Dear Judith and Lori I appreciate your kind review for my tour. Japanese people often say when they get good weather that it's they have been behaving well everyday. It must be true because the weather was good ! I'll keep your present and see it every day. Japan has 34 national parks. I hope that you will visit Kyoto and I can see you again. Thank you
Had a fun day exploring Kyoto with Mana.
Dear Katrina. Thank you for your prompt reply and positive review. I hope you could enjoy your time in Japan and next time you visit Kyoto. I hope we can have more time together!
Mana guided us for two days in Kyoto. She gave us a very expansive yet detailed tour of the city and its many world famous destinations. She is exceptionally knowledgeable and tentative to all our needs. She is excellent and we had a very enjoyable time under her guidance.
Dear Manho. Thank you very much for a great review. I was able to have a fun time after meeting all of you. I should try the steak house at Arashiyama in June. Excuse me for going before you! Thank you for the good information.
When I hired Mana as a guide, I was not sure if we would be able to understand her English. Not only was her English great, we ended up having wonderful conversations. My elder son has been learning Japanese for a year, she supported it and taught him a few tricks and songs to help remember certain aspects of the language. She also teaches English at a high school. She was on time, navigated our routes with ease and accommodated last minute requests. We did not feel rushed at any point, despite our lengthy itinerary. We had a great day with her.
Dear Hima. Thank you for the message that is full of warmth from the bottom of your heart. I was so impressed by the polite attitude of you and your family. I was surprised by elder son's knowledge of not only Japanese language but also Japanese culture. I'm very excited about his future so I'm looking forward to seeing all of you again!
Mana is an informed, enthusiastic guide. She covered a lot. We visited mainly shrines and temples. This was great as many of what we saw that day would have been difficult to visit on our own. We both found her English excellent. She is happy to completely customize your tour. We would recommend her happily.
Dear Delia. It was nice to hear from you. Thank you for taking time to write a tour review. Unfortunately it was raining all day, I was glad you are interested not only in beautiful scenery for the tourists but also temples and shrines themselves. I think that I need to know more about Buddhism for you the next time you visit. Please send my best regards to Rick.
Mana was extremely helpful in getting us into buses, trains and taxis. She provided much information about each site. She asked about our food preferences and took us to lovely restaurant for a great lunch. She insisted adding things to the agenda even when it was going beyond our allotted time. It was a terrific, interesting day and we got to see so much more than we could have on our own or with a regular tour group I would recommend this method of sight seeing to everyone.
Dear Maxine. Thank you for your prompt response,I was so happy. I envy your friendship. I'd like to have a good friend like yours. I hope you have a long lasting friendship. Bon voyage!
Great tour! Things Mana did well: Mana knew the route well and was able to share good insights about each stop. Her English is good enough for us to mostly understand so it’s not the issue that other reviewers identified. In addition to the 3 major temples we wanted to stop at, she created a walking itinerary that routed us by a number of other interesting sites in the area. My older mother needed to walk a bit slower and avoid too many steps, and Mana was able to identify a tour route that met our needs. Even though we returned to the hotel about 20-30 min later than scheduled (we were flexible) Mana graciously did not charge for extra time although we gave her a small gratuity for her good service. Things to work on for future tours: maybe have a few options in mind for lunch - the... read more
Dear Michele,I thank you for your detailed advice. As we were in the peak of the Sakura tourist season, thank you for your understanding regarding the lunch stop. Some other clients booked 5 months in advance and still experienced a long wait ( 30 min) I'll practice taking a picture for my clients. Thank you for your helpful feedback.
Absolutely beautiful day with full sun and gorgeous temples (Golden temple, bamboo forrest and Nijo Castle) ending the day with a kimono show and a great dinner in Gion. Mana, thanks for 2 great days.
Dear Pia. Thank you very much for your best positive review. I was glad you were interested in traditional Japanese culture especially Kimonos and antiques. Take good care of the scroll and the Kimono when you get home to your country. One more thing, we are so lucky that we were able to take a photo with real Maiko at Tenryuji garden.
Our tour with Mana not only met our expectations but was even better: She not only took us to places in the south of Kyoto which no tourist would have found on his own. The surprising highlight was that she invited the two of us to her brother‘s family for lunch - it was delicious and we had a very personal impression of Japanese family life. Highly recommended! Tina & Florian from Germany
Dear Martina. Thank you very much for your nice review. It was pleasure to show you around Kyoto and introduce you to Japanese family life. My brother and sister wanted speak with you in English but due to the language barrier, it was not possible but they wanted to say thank you and were very glad they got the opportunity to meet you since you asked me to show you every day life of the locals in Japan.
From the planning part to the actual tour, Mana was a great help. I listed all the places I wanted to see and she carefully planned out a two-day itinerary for us. To our surprise, she brought us to more places than we didn’t know before. She knew all the ins and outs of Kyoto. She was very patient and kind, very accommodating. We had an amazing time in Kyoto because of Mana. I couldn’t recommend Mana enough. Pick Mana and you will definitely regret.
Dear Alma.Thank you very much for your prompt and generous review. You are the first clients who wore rental Kimonos on my tour. You and your daughter looked so beautiful in the Kimono with the traditional Japanese garden. The scenery along with you will be engraved in my memory for a long.
Mana, knowing that we were on a rather tight schedule, was able to accomodate us and show us many of Kyoto's outstanding landmarks, from Arashiyama, Kinkakuji, Tenryuji, Gion and Kiyomizudera. Being a walking tour, she was able to take us on various shortcuts to go from area to area to cover as many attractions as possible. She did it professionally and accomodated our timeframe.
Dear George. Thank you very much for your nice review. I was so happy that you could speak Japanese fluently. : I do wish however that you could have stay longer to visit Koudaiji temple. But Koudaiji has the light show in autumn. I hope you 'll visit Kyoto again.
Mana is a wonderfully patient native of Kyoto. We gave her carte blanche to show two 60 year olds from Boston the highlights of her city and there were no disappointments. She carefully mapped out our days to see not only some of the best tourists sites but also many things that only a native would know. She had been a police officer in her previous career so she knew every side street and public transit route everywhere. Her English is far better than our Japanese but you will need a little kindness and understanding as she communicates in her second language. We were happy to struggle through a bit at times but if 100% fluency is critical to you and you would rather have a Bronx native speaking to you for 8 hours, than perhaps Mana will not be your best choice. But if you enjoy experienc... read more
Dear Rick and Cynthia. Thank you very much for your warmhearted review. I'm so happy to have had the chance to show you many different places in Kyoto because you both appreciated it so much. But I'm afraid I made you feel very tired at the end of the tour. and I apologize for that. There are more places you'll appreciate here in Kyoto that I was not able to show this time. Please come back again visit Kyoto. I'll be happy to give you a tour anytime for you!
Amazing tour with Mana, she is very kind and very patient, so happy for my experience. will differently book again and re-comment to all my friends. .
Dear Lei. Thank you very much for your nice review ! I hope you will come back to Kyoto. I would like to guide you again.Kind regards
Mana met us outside the tourist info, she waa a little blur and didnt recognise us when we came up to her but no problem. Took us to various sights we wanted to see like Kinkakuji, arashimaya and also added interesting sights to the itinerary like the monkey park that was on the way though we didnt know of. Also brought us to interesting silk worm cocoon handicraft shop. Effective use of the transport system except for the bus ride to Eikando. She was going to get us to take subway and bus but thought we had time and we took the bus all the way which ended up taking a long time though it did save us money since we got he one fay kyoto bus pass. Nevertheless luckily we made it just in time to enter to see the beautiful fall foliage though it was starting to get dark. She doesnt provide a lo... read more
Dear Wen. Thank you for a prompt nice review. You are so lucky because Kinkakuji and Arashiyama were not as crowded as usual. So we could proceed with our schedule faster than usual. As a result you could save time and money. I myself enjoyed viewing autumn foliage at the park. The monkeys also enjoyed with your family.
a nice lady.not so good English.
Dear Gideon. Thank you for your review. I hope you had wonderful tine in Japan. I'm sorry that I struggle with English but I'm taking course to improve it.
Great tour, a lot of information so we've learned a lot. It was a lovely day.
Dear Jason. I was so happy to be a guide for you and your family. This was my first precious experience to guide such a wonderful family from the Netherlands. I believe the separate experience of guiding both you and your son, and wife and daughter was equally enjoyable. Please convey my love and appreciation to your wife and daughter.
we saw a lot of Kyoto and Mana knew her way very well, her English was oke and she was very friendly and correct, we can recommend her as a guide
Dear Irma. Thank you so much for your review. It was so regretful that we couldn't walk around the beautiful garden of Koudaiji due to rain . However this temple is also beautiful for its Japanese maple leaves, so next time it would be perfect to come visit Kyoto to experience the beautiful garden.
Mana guided me on my first afternoon through late evening in Kyoto: initially the exchange of mails between us was limited and rather brief, and my only request to Mana was to help me see some good evening illuminations and places less strenuous for me physically. Based on this request Mana had crafted a very thoughtful program for the evening and in fact guided me to some places I had not read about but were true gems- Uji being one example. She also had already booked tickets for evening light show in Kodaiji temple, and it was a great idea. We had a wonderful time, and Mana's thoughtfulness and kindness as well as her knowledge of tourist attractions was evident throughout the journey.
Dear Padam . Thank you for giving me such a great review. I hope you enjoyed other Sakura tours. You were so lucky that the Sakura were in full bloom everywhere. Next time why not come back to enjoy the autumn leaves . I'll be waiting for you in Kyoto.
Mana is an excellent tour guide! She showed me many different places as well as explained facts behind the sights we visited. Mana also helped me find the places I wanted to go and then some! I didn't want to try and find places by myself as I never been to this area before and I didn't have much time. Mana helped keep my trip stress free by doing that. I cannot speak Japanese and Mana helped me communicate with others which I found invaluable. She is fluent in English and it was like having a friend show me around. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, friendly tour guide! Thanks again Mana!
Dear Alex. Thank you for sending me best evaluation. I'm so happy to hear from you that you are fine. Every time I see Tanuki's pottery, it reminds of you. Kansai especially Osaka is the place for entertainment. The people like making a joke. I'm Kansai people, the tanuki's , too. The Tanukis have been waiting for you forever.
I traveled to Kyoto with my Mom and my Dad who was physically handicapped and I was worried on how to go about walking the crowded streets and places of Kyoto. Mana our super guide was the best as she was so kind to accommodate my father's needs in needing a guide to show the best areas to go around, even though my father cannot walk properly and needed a portable wheelchair to bring him around. Mana assisted him and also gave us some very good tips about culture, food and the best spots to take photos and to hang out in Kyoto. She even extended her time with no charge as we went to our last stop in our itinerary which was the Tori Gates. She accompanied us until the very last minute when she sent us off at the Gion Train Station. Without her, we would have been lost in translation. ... read more
Dear Vanessa. Thank you for your prompt response. Please pass my regards to your parents. You are such a filial daughter and your farther must be so proud. It was my pleasure to guide you through Kyoto. Please take care of your father's health and I hope you visit Japan again.
Mana is a local person who knows the area and public transportation well. She met us early at our hotel and has a very gentle personality. We brought our 1 yr old daughter with us and she was so accommodating and patient with us and her. Even with a one yr old baby, she was able to take us to see all the highlights of Kyoto in a couple days. She adds a lot of insight into local culture and history of places we went to see. Without her we definitely would not have been able to see all the places we saw. She has children of her own and was patient with our daughter, even taking care of her while we had tea and desserts! She was such a thoughtful and knowledgeable guide. We would recommend her to anyone. We really enjoyed our time with her.
Dear Derek. Thank you for your good review. I was so impressed by your chivalry and good manners. It was my pleasure to guide you. I wish you and your daughter a healthy and prosperous. I'm looking forward to seeing you again
Thank you Mana for an incredible two days. What we covered in that time would have taken us at least a week to see if we were by ourselves, time we didn't have since we were only in Kyoto for four days. Your command of the public transport system in all forms was amazing. (I had no idea Randen existed). Thank you for walking up Mt Inari with us, the kimonos, the tea ceremony and textiles and for also including the suprise stop at the station near the sake brewery. I could keep going with the highlights but this review would end up being very, very long so I'd like to finish by saying, Mana, you are a friendly and informative guide with a great sense of humour and we thank you for the time and thought you put in to the tours. The frogs are sure to protect you during your job tasks. I'm sure that you and the frogs have returned home and to work safely. "Kaeru" Return to Kyoto again!
Mana arranged a tour to meet my particular interests, although this was difficult as many places are closed in January. Mana adapted the itinerary and we had an interesting tour, Mana did lots of preparation to cover background information. I agree with some of the comments made by other reviewers, but Mana herself told me she is not an interpreter; however her English is sufficient for general guiding and conversation. Mana was very friendly and went out of her way to help me enjoy the trip and was not fazed even when I felt unwell.
Hi June. Thank you for sending me a good review, I was just worried and I hope you are feeling better. Please take care of your health. I hope you will continue to return visit Japan especially Kyoto often if you need any assistance, please let me know. All the best
If you short on time and want to understand Kyoto book a tour with Mana. She lives in the area, was born here and you feel with her as if history of the town is personal. I would never believe that you can succeed in seeing so much with public transport but Mana does it. I provided my preferences and priorities and she packed it all in a tremendous plan, but in spite of the density we never felt rushed or lack of time. Her English may be not from Oxford, but that gives it even more flavor and you can understand more about the culture. We got explanations on life of Geisha's, how people married in the past and today. Mana carries supportive material with her to visualize many things around the sites you visit. In the overpriced Japan she charges a very modest price and provides great... read more

Mana-san was kind and generous. She even gave me a small gift of Kanji cards and a hand towel. However, much as I think she is a nice lady who is genuinely concerned about her guests, I found her lacking in experience. Things did not start well at first. I was early and waited till past the designated meeting time. It was only after some time that I noticed a lady who looked like she was dressed to go walking that I decided to approach her and found her to be Mana-san. I later learnt that she assumed I would not "look like Japanese" because she had previously guided Indians from Singapore and assumed I would be the same. She should have carried a board with my name on it, but she did not. Her level of spoken English could also be improved, even if by a little. I would very much like to giv... read more

Mana Is a lovely lady and put a lot of effort into providing us with an interesting and enjoyable few days. She was always prompt and knew her way round the transport system very well. My huaband has a problem with his feet which means he has to walk very slowly and she was very patient and considerate in this regard. We have given her 5 stars because of the enormous amount of effort she put in and her adaptability with David's foot problem. However, the one drawback was that, whilst the breadth of her English vocabulary is good, her pronunciation is not always as good and she is sometimes quite difficult to understand. This made conversation quite difficult on some occasions and therefore quite hard work. Despite the slight language issue, we would definitely recommend Mana, she was k... read more

My next guest from UK arrives in January. She is 60 years, too.Thank you for my delightful presents from Yorkshire,I really appreciate them all.My family and friends will enjoy them. I hope David's foot is getting better. Take care of yourself. Thank you very much again for choosing me as your guide.
It was a great pleasure meeting and spending time with Mana-San. She was punctual and prompt in her timing. She had well planned the route and the destinations before hand and had good suggestions. We were very efficient and able to see every place in good time. We to her service on 2 days and will be happy to recommend her.
Dear Lalit. I had a great time with your family. I appreciate your cooperation for time keeping. How did your Managa family portrait come out? I regret not seeing the final portrait, it must be cute. I think you got many nice souvenirs in Kyoto. I think you have decorated your room with the items you bought and the new ties and scarf looks good on you. Thank you choosing me as your guide.
Mana did an excellent job and she is very professional. Her day plan worked perfect and we had enough time to see the pre-planned attractions and didn't loose time by transport. Her explanations are very good and all questions are answered. We learned more about Japan and the culture as we thought. On top she showed us attractions which were not planned and these gave a complete picture to the Japanese tradition e.g. Kimono show and tea ceremony. always again........... thanks. Dear Petra and Andreas. Thank you for sending me a warm message and for giving me the best evaluation! It was my first tour and I felt as though my English was not fluent enough. I do apologize if I didn't meet your requirements regarding the information given on the tour, I'm not happy about my performance therefore I'd like to apologize in this regard . Although I was very happy for being your tour guide and guiding around Kyoto city. Next time I'll be more professional as I making in my goal to improve .
