Yuki, a happy, smiley, friendly, easygoing and open-minded guide with a lot of traveling/living abroad experience is here! I'm not a walking guidebook kind of guide, but rather I'd love to show you Kyoto with new insights through true interactions.
I was born and raised in Tokyo but moved to Kyoto to study for 4 years. Later I went to the Netherlands for a master's degree (in urban studies) for 2 years and then traveled for 20 months in Europe and Asia. Finally I came back to Kyoto in 2019 March. I have also lived in the US, Finland and Sweden.
I always travel whenever I find time, and in my lifetime (about 27 years so far) I've spent more than 3 years in total travelling around, visiting about 60 countries. I always use CouchSurfing so that I can meet locals. It's great to have the local knowledge and exchange thoughts and ideas, which I'd love to share with you as a guide.
I am open to any kind of tour, so all is up to you. You can give me all the wishes in the world and I'll try my best to tailor a fun tour for you! I'm especially interested in food, cycling, transportation, urbanism, society and culture, but I'm generally interested in everything.

Yuki gave us everything that we asked for: we wanted a Kyoto tour through the eyes of the local: we wanted to see how people live and what are their habits. We also hit some of the famous and as well less famous tourist "must see." We got to try the food gems at great and hidden spots. Yuki knows the city extremely well and was able to guide us through the amazing transportation network, and that was efficient and fun at the same time. I also want to mention that Yuki has a great personality and after spending two days with him, we felt like we were old friends! Yuki's English command is perfect, so we were able to ask all the questions that were in our minds. Yuki also went out of his way to make our experience perfect! He even bought us fermented beans to try because we were wonderin... read more
We had Yuki as our guide on 25 and 26 Jun 2019. Our group of four comprised of my 90-year old mum and my friend's 77-year old mum. As our mums couldn't walk for long distances, we brought 2 wheelchairs along with us. Yuki accompanied us sightseeing using public transport like buses and train. Although the buses were crowded at times, we managed with Yuki's help. Yuki is friendly and sincere. He was very caring and he kept the pace suitable for us. He introduced and explained to us the Japanese culture & history. He readily gave a helping hand to my friend in handling the wheelchair for her mum. Without any hesitation, I recommend Yuki as your guide although he is new to conducting tours. Thank you Yuki.
I enjoyed guiding you around, especially with a lot of laughter thanks to your humor. :D Thank you for choosing me as your guide, and spoiling me with desserts!
Yuki was our guide around Kyoto for the day. I have only 1 word for this experience and it is “excellent”!!! My family and I had a wonderful time. Yuki was patient with my 11 year old and all her questions. He was able to give us a good explanation of all the places we visited as well some extras. Yuki took us to a fantastic restaurant which we thoroughly enjoyed. If you have a chance to have Yuki as your guide is do it!!! You won’t be disappointed.
I also enjoyed guiding you and the family all around Kyoto. I'm always glad to see a child with a lot of curiosities! Hopefully we'll see each other again soon in Vietnam!
We asked Yuki to show us some of the sights that (a) he considered interesting and (b) are largely ignored by most foreign visitors. He delivered! His English is excellent and he proved a pleasant and capable companion for our wander around Kyoto.
I'm glad you liked my selection. I enjoyed taking you to unknown places that I don't get to visit very often and talking about everything.
Since Yuki just started as a guide I wasn’t sure what to expect but from the first 10 minutes I knew I had the right guide. Yuki was always a source of information and ready to change plans at the last minute. I had a wonderful day in all the places we visited with interesting conversation and good humour to top it all. Even after the contract was over Yuki continued to offer his knowledge and guidance. A young man with a great future.
Thank you for having me as a guide. I had a nice day, too, and enjoyed all the conversations we had. It's always nice to talk with knowledgeable people and share ideas. Hope to see you again somewhere!
