Junko gave us exactly what we were looking for. We saw the back streets, met small business owners and learned what it is like to live in Yanesen. What a pleasure to spend that brief period with Junko. We really appreciated her time and knowledge of the area.
Exploring Yanaka, Nezu and Sendagi felt like stepping into another “time” compared to the traffic and congestion of other parts of Tokyo. Junko’s knowledge of these neighborhoods and the people who live here serve to provide a completely personal tour weaving rich Japanese history and culture with modern day lives and activity. I highly recommend Junko and her Yanesen tour for anyone looking to learn more about Japanese culture in a very quaint and relaxing yet fast paced atmosphere. We explored so much in just a few short hours. Thank you Junko for helping me to find the perfect teas for friends back home and of course the gift of nigari. I can’t wait to return to Yanesen to explore the alleyways with my husband!
We thoroughly enjoyed our time with Junko. I highly recommend anyone to book her.
The day we spent with Junko was one of the highlights of our time in Tokyo. Junko asked about our interests in advance, and she built an itinerary that exceeded our expectations. Among other things, we were delighted to visit her neighborhood, the shops, shrine, church, library, and streets. We also had the good fortune of meeting her friends who were celebrating the opening of a new real estate office. Junko has lots of energy and a great command of English. We learned so much from her, and we thoroughly enjoyed her company. We could never have seen and done all that we did on our own. We highly recommend touring Tokyo with Junko!
We hired Junko for 4 days in Tokyo including Hokane and Kamakura. This was an exceptional experience for us. Her English and communication skills are very very good. She adjusted the tours to match our interests and ability. We really appreciated her flexibility. In Kamkura she immediately changed her plans to satisfy my last minute suggestion to bike to the sites instead of taking buses. Although she had never done that before, I think she was even amazed at how much fun it made the experience. She worked in our love of art by taking us to see a Kusama exhibit and the open air museum in Hokane
It will take a few pages of essay to express our amazing experience with Junko as our guide. In short, Junko is spontaneous, dedicated, and very detailed in all aspects of her work. She has exceeded our expectations in so many ways from planning the itineraries to providing additional information of places, restaurants, and accommodation. With her proficiency as a food & wine writer, you are in for a treat to local food delights! Nothing beats a very satisfied taste bud while enjoying a very well planned out tour. While it is very challenging to translate many terms in the sake brewing process, she had done a phenomenal job in helping us understand each and every detail of the transpired process & technique by the brewery owners. Through her valuable contacts, we were able to visit very exclusive breweries from the very traditional style brewery to the modern brewery using modern science. The experience of sitting through privileged meetings with owners & presidents of the renowned breweries is truly priceless! Special mention to Hashimoto-San, whom has kindly offered his valuable time to drive us around during this tour and connected us to those exclusive breweries! His fatherly love figure to take care of our needs along the way and going the extra mile to surprised us with a particular bottle of sake we were searching for is truly heartwarming! Arigatou gozaimashita ! All in all, this is truly one of a kind customised tour that you really cannot put a price tag on it! Yet, Junko has made it very affordable for us. We only live once to enjoy life's experiences, and this is one of those we will speak of very often. Thank you so much Junko!
Junko is knowledgeable on all things Tokyo! My husband and I are ending a long trip across Asia with a stop in Tokyo before heading home. We knew we would not have the energy to navigate the complicated transit system, much less research each landmark. We are SO glad we were paired with Junko. She knows something about every aspect of Tokyo - history, culture, religion, economy and so much more. She answered all of our questions and provided context and detail with ease. We visited the Meiji Shrine near Shibuya, toured the Yanesen district (which is her neighborhood and it's clear she's very passionate about it), experienced the most delicious lunch and went to Ginza to see the department store depachika. Junko even catered to our caffeine and snack needs and helped me pick out stationery at the famed Itoya store. Her energy was contagious! Thank you, Junko, for a memorable day that we won't forget!
Nakahama-san was a very patient guide and took time to explain a lot at each of the many places we stopped by while walking through Yanaka, Nezu and Sendagi. The whole area was very interesting as it was a mix of residences and many little shops at every street. There was the traditional Daikokuya rice cracker shop, a family run sake store, and we even ate some freshly prepared Konnyaku jelly. There were many other places within the area that Nakahama-san showed us. We still have a copy of the hand-drawn map she gave us and may return to explore more of Ya-Ne-Sen another time.
