Hi there! I'm Risa, your new friend in Kyoto. I will be your perfect guide if you are into outdoors (especially for biking, trekking or hiking), looking to explore some hidden gems (especially for eating and drinking) or this beautiful city in general through local's eyes. If you are templed out, don't worry! Kyoto has a lot more to offer other than temples or shrines.
I was born and raised in Osaka, spent few years living abroad and now based in Kyoto since 3 years ago. I have been backpacking myself for over 5 years now, in love with some adventures & new encounters, and learnt the followings:
1. ALL ABOUT PEOPLE! - Doesn't matter where you go or what you eat, the most memorable journey will depend on people you meet during your trip.
2. BE FRIENDS WITH LOCALS! - Local people know the best. They will show you the places that are not listed on a guidebook or with no tourists around.
3. DO SOMETHING YOU HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED! - You will be amazed how different culture and customs are compared to yours. Doing something extraordinary from your daily life will bring you new thoughts and broaden your mind.
Let me be the one to fulfill your trip if you feel the same way :)
Although I'm not a certified guide, I have been working in tourism for several years now so am totally confident in providing information as well as showing around the city. I'm very easy and flexible so please don't hesitate to request anything that can make your time in Kyoto the memorable one!

Risa knows the ins and outs of Kyoto local hidden gems. Best guide to experience Kyoto!
We had a marvelous day with Risa. She was very accomodating to our needs. We had 1 day to see Kyoto and had very specific attractions we wanted to see. Risa planned everything including transportation routes. She met us early at our hotel and stayed late so we can finished with our tour. Without her, we would definitely be lost with the transportation routes. She spoke very good English and gave details history of each historical place. She made sure we tried foods specific to the Kyoto area. We had two kids with us and she made sure they were engaged in the tour. Again, thank you Risa. You definitely made our stay in Kyoto that much more meaningful.
Risa was fantastic for our family of 4. She showed a lot of Kyoto’s must sees in the one day. We walked many km’s that day and Risa was happy to show us the way. She also took us to a traditional Japanese lunch and tried to school us in many Japanese cultures and philosophies. I would certainly recommend Risa to anyone wanting to The sights of Kyoto. Thanks so much Risa for being so patient with us and showing us your beautiful city.
Despite the cold and rainy weather, our day with Risa went really well. She organized a balanced and interesting tour, taking us to a nearby tea factory (matcha tea making included), then to Fushimi Inari and, on our way back, to Gion and a famous nearby shrine (can't remember the name). We were very lucky to find tickets for the geisha spring show at Kyoto theatre and end our day in grand Kyoto style!! Risa is very knowledgeable, friendly and speaks great English - we highly recommend her! We will spend another full day with her and look forward to it!
Booked Risa for a full day solo and it was unbelievable. We biked all of Kyoto, saw 6 or 7 sites, went to an Omsen, had a picnic under the cherry blossoms and finished the day with a sunset hike looking over all of Kyoto. Can’t recommend her more highly. She also speaks fluent English and is a total pro. 5 Stars.
