Thanks for reviewing my profile.
I am Australian, from Sydney originally but my life with Japan and its culture and history spans 30 odd years and I have been a Hiroshima resident for 18 of those 30 years.
I joined Triple Lights just recently but be assured I have led many tours in Hiroshima and more widely throughout metropolitan and regional Japan, sharing conversations about the unique society, its fascinating culture and history. I also have written several tourism blogs for inbound tour companies and also the Hiroshima Prefectural Tourism Bureau.
I speak fluent Japanese and I have immersed myself in the experience of living here in modern and traditional culture and spent many years studying martial arts Aikido and Iaido. I also have a strong interest in Buddhist teachings. My Japanese calligraphy work over the years has been received recognition and several awards and commissions both in Japan and elsewhere.
I'm looking forward to spending a great experience sharing the culture and history of Hiroshima with you.

Hugh prepared a great 5 hour tour to Hiroshima. He is very knowledgeable & friendly. The 5 hours went very quickly and he ensured that my teenage son was engaged at all times. Really enjoyable and I would highly recommend Hugh. His approach is friendly and he set the tone for a great 10 days in Japan. Thanks Hugh. James & George Cheney
Hi James, So glad you enjoyed the tour and it was a pleasure spending the time with you. I hope you have returned home safe and sound and this followed a great trip. Thanks very much for a great review! Best, Hugh
We wanted to do a road trip from Fukuoka to Osaka, with a few ideas of where we might want to stop, and kinds of things we like to do. Hugh did a great job of fleshing that out into a real, custom itinerary, with specific places to go, things to do, and places to eat and to get the best coffee. He even made some recommendations for places and activities tourists don't usually go, which delighted us. His advice as a local was a great help, and gave us confidence to go on our trip and to make the best use of our time. Highly recommended!
Hi Peter, It sounds like you enjoyed the trip! Very glad it was such a success and thanks for the great review. Best regards, Hugh
Hugh´s amazing abilities with japanese and knowledge of History made the experience amazing and enjoyable.
HI Andrés! It was such a pleasure spending the day with you all. I hope you had a wonderful remainder of your stay and got home safe and sound. Best, Hugh
Hugh did a really good job with my family! As a group of seven people, spanning from 12 years old all the way to 72, he helped us enjoy the full day. We spent half a day at the Peace Park and atomic bomb museum, and then the afternoon over at Miyajima. Great day overall. Hugh even walked to the far end of the tourist area at Miyajima to take us to the top of an out of the way Buddhist temple. It was great!
Hi Mike, it was a tota pleasure spending the day with you all. Thanks for the fab review! Regards, Hugh
My family (husband and 2 teenage daughters) and I had a fantastic time with Hugh as he took us to Okunoshima Island to see the bunnies and poison gas museum along with Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Dome. Hugh was well-versed in the background of all the places we were visiting and gave us an insightful personal explanation of Japanese culture vs his Australian background. He is fluent in Japanese and well traveled throughout Japan. I also appreciated his attentiveness to detail in providing us directions to our hotel as we traveled from Osaka to Hiroshima before we even left for our trip and detailing what our tour would encompass.I truly felt Hugh went out of his way to make our travels around Japan safe and non-confusing. His extroverted personality made our conversations so enjoyabl... read more
