Thanks for reviewing my profile.
I am Australian, from Sydney originally but my life with Japan and its culture and history spans 30 odd years and I have been a Hiroshima resident for 18 of those 30 years.
I joined Triple Lights just recently but be assured I have led many tours in Hiroshima and more widely throughout metropolitan and regional Japan, sharing conversations about the unique society, its fascinating culture and history. I also have written several tourism blogs for inbound tour companies and also the Hiroshima Prefectural Tourism Bureau.
I speak fluent Japanese and I have immersed myself in the experience of living here in modern and traditional culture and spent many years studying martial arts Aikido and Iaido. I also have a strong interest in Buddhist teachings. My Japanese calligraphy work over the years has been received recognition and several awards and commissions both in Japan and elsewhere.
I'm looking forward to spending a great experience sharing the culture and history of Hiroshima with you.

Very knowledgeable and friendly . The tour of Hiroshima was definitely enhanced with the facts that Hugh knew. He also was great with my family and knew just what to say to get the kids involved the best he could! Definitely a great tour with Hugh. Would recommend him for any tour in Japan.
Hugh met us early in the morning at our Cruise Ship location and we quickly headed out to see the museums and sites ahead of the crowds. Hugh's ability to manage our time well continued for the entire day. We toured the Atomic Bomb site, Memorials and Museums and then travelled by ferry to Miyajima to visit the Itsukushima Shrine and the Giant Torii Gate. My favourite time was the great lunch that we had at one of Hugh's favourtie Restaurants.
Hi Meredith! Thanks for the fab review and so glad you enjoyed the day as much as I did. Best, Hugh
We spent 2 days with Hugh: 1 day in Hiroshima and 1 day on Mijayima island. Hugh was a fabulous tour guide; well organized but flexible to our needs. It was a bonus when he gave me a fun calligraphy experience in our hotel room. His great knowledge of the history and culture and language skills are really impressive and contribute a lot to the experience. He went out of his way to help us find a particular brand of sake we were after and other hard-to-find items on our shopping list. We highly recommend Hugh as your choice of guide!
Thanks so much for the great review Annie! I was such pleasure spending the two days with you both. Best, Hugh
We had a great day in Hiroshima with Hugh. He is very knowledgeable and helpful, he made us feel welcome and comfortable, help us book our train tickets back to Kyoto while we were resting and waiting for our lunch. I highly recommend Hugh as the Tour Guide to anyone every time!
It was great to have an Aussie bloke on board! We enjoyed his humorous and intellectual guiding. Hugh is definitely fun to be with, especially when you don't understand the local language. He is adept in Japanese which was certainly a bonus. Our kids loved his company as well, particularly our teenage boy! He also guided us to great local food besides the picturesque sites.
Rajeev and family. Thanks for the great review! It was a real pleasure sharing the day with you all. Best, Hugh
