Thanks for reviewing my profile.
I am Australian, from Sydney originally but my life with Japan and its culture and history spans 30 odd years and I have been a Hiroshima resident for 18 of those 30 years.
I joined Triple Lights just recently but be assured I have led many tours in Hiroshima and more widely throughout metropolitan and regional Japan, sharing conversations about the unique society, its fascinating culture and history. I also have written several tourism blogs for inbound tour companies and also the Hiroshima Prefectural Tourism Bureau.
I speak fluent Japanese and I have immersed myself in the experience of living here in modern and traditional culture and spent many years studying martial arts Aikido and Iaido. I also have a strong interest in Buddhist teachings. My Japanese calligraphy work over the years has been received recognition and several awards and commissions both in Japan and elsewhere.
I'm looking forward to spending a great experience sharing the culture and history of Hiroshima with you.

Hugh had our day perfectly planned and rolled with everything we wanted to do. We took every sort of transportation all day long which was really fun. He is very knowledgeable and shared so much with us. His confident manner put us all at ease for our journey with him. He was a joy to share time with and to show us Hiroshima. I would recommend him every time!
Thanks for the fabulous review Julie! It was a total pleasure sharing the day with you all. My best to everyone. Hugh
I can thoroughly recommend Hugh as your Tour Guide for Japan. He guided our group of 15 on our recent tour of Hiroshima and right from the start he made us feel both welcome and comfortable. Hugh met us at Hiroshima Station and then proceeded to guide us on what was a very compact tour (owing to our own time constraints) of Miyajima Shrine and Hiroshima City. It also included a lunchtime visit to the great Lopez Restaurant in Hiroshima for some fabulous Okonomiyaki. Hugh was more like a family member than a tour guide and we all thoroughly enjoyed our day. We were only sorry that we didn't have more time to spend with Hugh in Hiroshima. Thanks HUGH for a great day...*****
I think was a great pleasure sharing the day with you all. Thanks Barrie for such a glowing review! Best, Hugh
Our ship was 5 hours late getting to Hiroshima and immigration took hours more. Hugh was terrific and able to give us a wonderful experience even though we had only half the original time. We enjoyed our day and learned a lot in our first stp in Japan.
Hi Noreen! Thanks for the great review. Clear and to the point. You are a charming couple and it was a pleasure sharing the afternoon with you. Wishing a wonderful remainder of your trip. Best to you both, Hugh
Very knowledgeable and helpful. Everyone enjoyed a lot. Thanks.
Hugh is very knowledgeable in not just Hiroshima, but most places in Japan. So we were able to pick his brain and learnt more about Japan. He is extremely helpful and gave us a very insightful tour of Miyajima, took us to eat sushi, and drove us to Kintaikyo Bridge in Iwakuni. He knew everything and was very informative throughout the day. Very, very good tour guide. We did feel a bit rushed towards the end of our tour and the drive home was very fast but I suppose we did start an hour later than his initial proposal. Still, he managed to take us to all the places he wanted to showcase. He even suggested dinner spots for us and we went to one and it was amazing and delicious - thank you Hugh!
Thanks so much for the glowing and qualified review! I hope I can be of service again in the future. Best regards, Hugh
