My husband and I had a simple request: could we hire a guide to escort us to an area near Kumamoto where his grandparents lived before immigrating to the US? We just wanted to see the home place and feel what it was like. Thanks to Nao’s research and contacts, we ended up not only seeing homes and burial sites of my husband’s ancestors, but meeting relatives who presently live on his grandparents’ home site! It was a magical day, one we will never forget. Nao’s translation skills were so valuable to us, but she offered so much more, including kindness and enthusiasm and a genuine interest in making our family’s connection. My husband now knows the place where his grandparents lived and is so happy to learn that his cousins are still making it a family home. Nao was our Sherlock Holmes! We a... read more
Mari helped me make the most of my layover, very efficiently introducing me to Japanese culture. In just four hours, she introduced me to Japanese pastries, we toured a gorgeous temple and grounds, attended a tea ceremony, visited a shrine, strolled the very quaint and historic town of Narita, shopped for personalized chopsticks and other crafts, and ate delicious ramen. Throughout, Mari provided history and context for the many Japanese traditions we witnessed. This was by far the best ever layover! Mari met me at the airport and escorted me back, helping me navigate the 10-minute train ride to Narita. She speaks excellent English and is wonderful! I urge anyone with a Tokyo airport layover to try her tour.
I thoroughly enjoyed my day your of the highlights of Tokyo with Eiko! It was the first day of my trip and was a great start for my adventure. Eiko was very flexible with the schedule and provided on the go suggestions. She gave insights into Japanese culture and an introduction on who to navigating the city's transportation. She was very nice to spend the day with.
Hi Asha, Thank you for the review. Your tour day was on Monday and almost all the museums and Japanese gardens plus Kabukiza were closed. Therefore, prior to the tour, we discussed the spots to substitute them. I suggested Tokyo Skytree and you agreed to go there. But on the tour day, you changed your mind because of the entrance fee.. It was a nice sunny day and there was a high possibility to view Mt. Fuji. So I took you to Tokyo metropolitan government office to visit their observatory. However there was a very long waiting line and forced us to give it up.. Im sorry if these were the reasons that you couldn’t fully enjoy.. I really hope you come back to Tokyo again in the future!! Eiko
Had a change of itinerary during the day so I asked Yamato if we could bump our schedule which was okay with him. He also fetched me from my hotel. He took me to 3 cool spots and I had the best conversations with him. Truly a wonderful experience.
Mitsu was a very agreeable guide, anxious to make sure we saw what we were interested in seeing. We were going to Nikko one day and had a day in Tokyo by ourselves. He spent a lot of time making sure we were comfortable traveling by ourselves. Highly recommend!
