Welcome to Tokyo! What a great city this is!
I've been living here for over eight years and I have explored this wonderful city and its fascinating suburbs with a real passion.
My love of exploring actually started in Thailand and Korea, where I lived for many years before coming to Japan, but Tokyo is home now! I'm a Permanent Resident and I'm very happy here!
I am especially interested in the sacred buildings of Tokyo, and am the author of a number of books on Tokyo temples and Buddhist pilgrimages, as well as a guide to the Christian churches and cathedrals of Tokyo. At the moment my wife and I especially love going out to Chichibu, a wonderful little town in the mountains west of Tokyo, and visiting the temples there. But we are not planning on any more books!
Instead, I've been spending most of my free time studying Japanese, especially reading. I'm a big fan of the manga Yotsubato and read along with an online reading group. And recently I started another new hobby - watching the entire Gundam series... all 40 years of it! I'm watching each episode in order, in Japanese, and of course I'm making Gundam model kits too! I'm a total beginner, but it's great fun!
What people like about me is my enthusiasm! I wouldn't be any good at "Tokyo after dark" tours or anything like that, but for anyone interested in the traditional sights of this city, as well as modern architecture, parks, and walks in local areas, I bring energy, knowledge, the ability to compare with other countries, and a real love for this place which is now home.
I look forward to exploring Tokyo with you soon!

Marcus was an excellent guide. Knowledgeable and with lots of practical suggestions for the rest of our stay. He covered everywhere we wanted to go and set us up with pasmo cards and instructions on navigating the metro system.
Marcus was an excellent guide. He was very personable and very knowledgeable. He took us to some fantastic places and gave us useful tips for the following day. By the end of the day we felt quite competent using the subway to travel around the city. Thank you Marcus.
Marcus has thorough knowlwdge of Tokyo and of the religious and historical background of Japan. He took us to visot less toured sites, which was great. We experienced some authentic, quiet places, away from the busy touristic locations. Thank you Marcus for a great introduction to Tokyo!
Marcus was fantastic. I gave him a list of interest for my 7 & 9 year olds, and he fulfilled it! After being in Kyoto for a few days we were “templed out” and wanted to do fun stuff in the city. Marcus knew of many hidden details to surprise the kids. He opened us up to trying new cuisine we would’ve otherwise not tried, took us to trendy & local spots, and shared a lot of history with us. We couldn’t cover this much ground on our own in one day. Highly recommended!
My wife and I had the opportunity to spend a day tour with Marcus this week in Tokyo. Marcus is the man! Knowledgeable, flexible, and very efficient. I can’t believe how much we accomplished in 6 hours. Strongly recommend Kevin
