Welcome to Tokyo!
What a great city this is!
I've lived here for over seven years and I love it here. The food, the people, the atmosphere. And I love showing people around, sharing all the great places and experiences available in this wonderful city.
My particular interest is in the temples of Tokyo, and in Buddhist pilgrimage. Before I came to Japan I lived for many years in Thailand and Korea, that is where my interest started. But here in Tokyo, there is enough to keep you exploring for a lifetime!
Whether you want to see the big popular city centre temples, the quiet neighborhood temples where you'll be the only visitor, some of the amazing temples in the suburbs, or even the pilgrimage sites along the Musashino or Chichibu circuits, it's amazing what you can achieve in just a day or two, and incredible the sights you'll see and the experiences you'll have.
I'm the author of a number of books on Tokyo temples, including the only English-language guides to the Tokyo Kannon and Musashino Kannon Pilgrimages. I have also published a guide to the Christian churches and cathedrals of central Tokyo. Currently I'm working on a book of stories around the Chichibu Kannon Pilgrimage, but that won't be ready for many years to come.
Despite living in Japan for so many years and knowing Tokyo so well, my Japanese language level is still only beginner level. For many years I worked here as an English language teacher and didn't really start studying Japanese until I became a tour guide. But these days I spend all my free time with my text books, and am finding that a whole new adventure in itself!
And what I still love most is travelling round this great city. Over the past seven years I have explored Tokyo and its huge and fascinating suburbs with real passion. I'm still learning, still discovering new things about this incredible place, and it will be a real pleasure sharing it all with you!

I had a wonderful day with Marcus. The walking tour of Mejiro that I chose was a fantastic balance of architecture and nature, modern and traditional, and different sacred buildings. Marcus was an enthusiastic and knowledgable guide. I always enjoy walking around a city, and this tour was a great snapshot of a part of Tokyo. At every stop Marcus had lots of knowledge to impart. We did quite a lot of walking, but the stops seemed to be spaced quite regularly along our route. We had lunch at a small and charming cafe. The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly. By the end of the tour I felt I had learnt a lot and had a great time. I really recommend Marcus. This tour is great, and I'm sure his others are, too.
