Welcome to Tokyo!
What a great city this is!
I've lived here for over seven years and I love it here. The food, the people, the atmosphere. And I love showing people around, sharing all the great places and experiences available in this wonderful city.
I am especially interested in the sacred buildings of Tokyo, and have visited a huge number of temples, shrines, and churches in the city, and know them very well indeed.
My love of exploring actually started in Thailand and Korea, where I lived for many years before coming to Japan, but Tokyo is home now. I'm a Permanent Resident and very very happy here!
I'm the author of a number of books on Tokyo temples, including the only English-language guides to the Tokyo Kannon and Musashino Kannon Pilgrimages. I have also published a guide to the Christian churches and cathedrals of central Tokyo.
But these days I spend most of my free time studying Japanese, especially the reading, which is a whole new adventure in itself, and my wife and I love going out to Chichibu, a wonderful little town in the mountains west of Tokyo.
What people like about me is my enthusiasm! I wouldn't be any good at "Tokyo after dark" tours or anything like that, but for anyone interested in the traditional sights of this city, as well as modern architecture, parks, and walks in local areas, I bring energy, knowledge, the ability to compare with other countries, and a real love for this place which is now home.

Marcus was an excellent guide. He was well prepared and created an itinerary that was perfect for me. He is very pleasant and thoughtful. He listened to me and was flexible with what we did. I learned so much! Thank you
And saw the most famous temple in Tokyo! He explained the various traditions and taught us what to do. Marcus is incredibly knowledgeable of Buddhist traditions, history and the city. We learned a lot about Tokyo that we would otherwise have missed out on. A rich history and wonderful culture. Marcus is easy to be with, fun and attentive. We felt like we got the best of Tokyo with all the sites we saw along the way. He made the day fabulous and our trip to Tokyo a gem! We look forward to coming back and our next adventure guided by him! Thank you Marcus!
Marcus was excellent. We used the train system and walked and saw may highlights of Tokyo.
Marcus is a very thoughtful, experienced guide who was very accommodating for us. We exchanged several emails prior to our trip and he was very helpful and patiently answered questions of anxious first time travelers. We were able to see so much of Tokyo in just one day, including the biggest attractions as well as hidden gems that only locals might know. Marcus is a master story teller, and very knowledgeable. Thanks to him, we know more about Japanese history and culture. We are forever grateful for the experience! Thank you Marcus! Malena and Martha
I had a wonderful day with Marcus. The walking tour of Mejiro that I chose was a fantastic balance of architecture and nature, modern and traditional, and different sacred buildings. Marcus was an enthusiastic and knowledgable guide. I always enjoy walking around a city, and this tour was a great snapshot of a part of Tokyo. At every stop Marcus had lots of knowledge to impart. We did quite a lot of walking, but the stops seemed to be spaced quite regularly along our route. We had lunch at a small and charming cafe. The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly. By the end of the tour I felt I had learnt a lot and had a great time. I really recommend Marcus. This tour is great, and I'm sure his others are, too.
Thank you so much Rachel! I can't tell you how much I enjoyed the day and your wonderful company. I learnt so much from you and had so much fun. Thank you.
