What to Expect
We stroll in Ueno Park and enjoy watching various scenes including nature and architectures. We visit several sites such as religious facilities and museums. Some of the buildings are designated as Japan’s Important Cultural Properties. For example, Ueno Toshogu Shrine, the Tokyo National Museum and the National Museum of Western Art are placed on our itinerary.
We can also appreciate various exhibits in the museums. At the Tokyo National Museum, which has Japan’s largest collection of more than 100,000 pieces of arts and artifacts including Japan’s representative works such as samurai sword and armor, ceramics, ukiyo-e and Buddhist sculptures.
The National Museum of Western Art, designed by a notable French architect Le Corbusier, is the only site placed on the World Cultural Heritage list in Tokyo. We can find the architectural features of the World Cultural Heritage site and see various Western sculptures and paintings, searching an influence of ukiyo-e, traditional Japanese woodblock printings, on the works of European impressionists such as Claude Monet.
After visiting Ueno Park, we will go to Yanaka, a residential area which retains traditional atmosphere of good old days of Tokyo.
