Tokyo has been the capital of Japan for more than 400 years since early 17th century and the period is divided into two completely different ages by Meiji Restoration in 1868. Tokyo was called Edo during the first period. The museum plainly displays its interesting history for visitors with various elaborate models, maps, and documents.
Nihon-bashi, litteraly a bridge of Japan, has long been the center of commerce in Tokyo. As its name shows, the bridge used to be the beginning of major highways which extended from Edo to local major cities, like Kyoto. You can see a model of the original bridge in Edo-Tokyo Museum. We also enjoy lunch around here.
You experience a matcha tea ceremony in a casual style at a refined tea house. You can also enjoy strolling around a beautiful traditional garden after the tea.
This is a remain of Edo castle, the seat of Tokugawa feudal government, which had ruled Japan since early 17th to mid-19th century. You can actually realize the great power of the Tokugawas to see the gigantic remains. Edo-Tokyo Museum features elaborate models of this castle. The ground of the castle now is the Imperial Palace and national gardens.
The end of the tour is Tokyo station, which was built in 1914 and has survived Great Kanto Earthquake (M 7.9) in 1923 and World War II. This elegant red-brick station is one of the symbolic buildings in the early modern age of Japan.

Hi Anthony and Maria, thank you very much for your warm comments and high rating on the tour. It's my great honor and inspiration for a next guide. Although the consecutive 6 days tour was challenging for me, I could enjoy guiding thanks to your cooperation. I also admired your lovely children. Hi Irene, thank you very much for your review and high rating on the tour. It’s my honor and a great motivation for future tours. I heard a news on your ship. I really wish the problem will be settled soon and your journey continues.
We really enjoyed our day with Toru. His English is excellent as is his knowledge of history, religion, and culture. We also recommend touring Kamakura, as it had a totally different vibe from the big cities. Toru also found us a great little tempura restaurant for lunch. We appreciated him escorting us back to the ship. Highly recommend.
Hi Linda, thank you very much for your review. As you say, Kamakura is a lovely city to explore for one day in terms of Japanese history, religion, and food. I'm happy to learn you enjoyed them through the tour. I was impressed with your interests and knowledge about Japanese history and literature. I enjoyed very much spending with you for one day in Kamakura. Thank you again and please say hello to Scot.
Toru was a great tour leader. He’s very knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and courteous. We spent the day enjoying Tokyo on public transportation. We traveled distances and visited sights through the eyes of a local. Lunch was enjoyed at a typical local spot serving traditional food. I highly recommend Toru.

Toru took us from Tokyo on a tour of Nikko. He took care of all the logistics including subway and train tickets. Toru met us at our hotel described the details of the tour and then took us to an amazing Nikko. He guided us through great shrines and temples including great Toshogu shrine. Tory was exceptionally friendly and accommodating. We had a great day and would recommend Tori to anyone looking for a friendly and knowledgeable guide.
Hi Igo, thank you very much for your kind comments. I'm pretty happy to know you seemed to enjoy the tour in Nikko. I'm afraid we didn't have time to visit Kegon Waterfall and Lake Chuzenji this time. I hope we can next time. How is your trip going? Three of you are enjoying a journey in Kyoto. I'm waiting for you to come back again and enjoy another attractions in this country. Thank you again.
