“ Finding our way ”

Mari was very well prepared. She had spent a lot of time before we met communicating with me, making sure we knew what to expect to ensure we had a good morning with her. She helped us navigate the subway system, buy IC cards and explained the backgrounds to the places we visited. We enjoyed the Tsukiji markets, with Mari showing us the different grades of tuna and many of the different flavours of the food on offer. Unfortunately we did not get to see the sumo wrestling practice because they had finished their practice early due to the competition - that would have really capped off the morning. It was through no fault of Mari’s that this happened and she took us to Ginza to make up for it.

Mari:

Thank you very much for your review. I'm glad you enjoyed my tour. I was impressed both of you are very knowledgeable about Japanese culture and your questions are insightful. I am sorry that we couldn’t see sumo. I have taken Sumo practice more than ten times, but this is the first time it happened. I hope all your family will enjoy skiing at Myoko near Nagano.

“ Tour of NEW Toyosu Fish Market ”

We met with Mari at 5am (early!) to visit the newly opened Toyosu Fish Market. This was still a new tour for Mari and it was a little bareboned because of the holidays, but she was amazing at explaining how the market worked and perfectly described the energy and magic behind the marketplace. Her English was excellent and she was enthusiastic. And she went out of her way to find us a great place to have early morning sushi at Toyosu! I would highly recommend Mari for this and any of there other tours in Tokyo and the surrounding areas.

Mari:

Thank you very much for your wonderful review. I really enjoyed guiding your family. All of your family members are friendly and great, especially you and your mother. I was impressed that ten members of your family travel together for two weeks. It’s fantastic. With our Toyosu experience, I decided to make a new tour called Tsukiji Tuna Auction tour. Thank you for everything. With warm regards,

“ A truly amazing experience ”

I signed up with Mari for a day and a half tour of Tokyo because my time was limited. She was a wonderful tour guide and we got along really well. On our full day tour, from the first point of contact, she was full of ideas; so much so that I wished I had more time in Tokyo. We started our day with the Meiji Shrine. We sat at a café near the entrance as she explained the difference between Waka and haiku because she knew I was interested in haiku and because emperor Meiji and empress Shoken excelled in Waka. After we walked through the impressive gates, breathtaking forest and the shrine, she pointed out many details that I would not have noticed had I been on my own. She continued to impress me as we walked to Yoyogi park to visit the Olympic commemorative quarters and we moved on to the ... read more
