What to Expect
One of Tokyo’s most traditional area, ASAKUSA has beautiful shrines, temples and culture. Let’s see Kaminarimon (the Thunder Gate) and its giant lantern. Then, Sensoji Temple will be waiting for our visit, but before that, let’s enjoy Nakamise Street and its 90 stores. At there, you can try local fresh snacks and see / buy unique Japanese souvenirs, such as Daruma, maneki-neko (beckoning cat) and so many other stuffs with their mitologic meaning, traditional crafts etc. Approaching to Sensoji, we will enjoy the beautiful view of the Five-storied Pagoda, Hozomon Gate and Hondo (the main hall). Then, we may stop at a classic restaurant or head to Kappabashi Dogugai street, a commercial center for Japanese kitchenware stuffs.
Next destination will be UENO, another district where an old downtown atmosphere still remains. I will present you to some of Tokyo's most important museums and historic points. On the other hand, let’s head to lively Ameyoko street market to see or buy fresh and dried Japanese food. Let’s explore the streets where we can find lot of shops, including sportswear shops, with nice shoes and clothes for reasonable prices. If at the end of the tour, you fell hungry, let’s eat a delicious ramen or some Japanese skewers in one of the many alleyways of Ueno.
