What to Expect
Nikko had been a center of Shinto and Buddhist mountain worship for many centuries before Toshogu was built in the 1600s. So, we will visit not only temples but also shrines and will experience Nikko’s natural beauty. The main highlight of the tour is the Toshogu Shrine which is dedicated to the deified spirit of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of Tokugawa Shogunate. The shrine has a lot of traditional structures featuring lavish and exquisite carvings in colors. We will see some famous animal decorative ornaments such as Three Wise Monkeys and The Sleeping Cat or “Nemuri Neko”.
