What to Expect

Here at Kasuisai Temple, you can have an authentic Buddhist Zen experience for a day. Kasuisai Temple belongs to the Soto style of Zen Buddhism. It is located in the city of Fukuori (my hometown), Shizuoka prefecture. It was founded 600 years ago and has a traditional architectonic design; a Zuiryukau (guesthouse) and a Tosu (toilet), and has been designated a National Cultural Property.
To practice Zen meditation, you must sit with you legs crossed for 30 minutes in the Buddhist hall (it is important not to move during meditation), and when the time is right, the monk will tap you on the shoulder with a Keisaku (wooden rod).
Shakyou, or Sutra writing, is the traditional Japanese way of writing Kanjis (Chinese characters) on Washi (Japanese paper). Experience traditional Japanese calligraphy yourself using a brush pen and Indian ink!
Buddhist monks traditionally eat a Buddhist diet. Buddhism strictly prohibits to kill or eat animals, so is completely vegetarian, but very tasty and beautiful.
Note that this is a public event (not private). You and I (your wonderful guide) will take part in these events alongside other people.

“ A lovely day around mount fuji ”

Our guide Motoyuki-san was perfect and he made the tour a fantastic experience. He shared his great knowledge of Japanese culture and innumerable places of interest with us. We were traveling with our 2 years old daughter and he brought a safety seat for her and drove us around from one place to another to make it easier for us. We had a lovely day, Thanks again and see you soon :)

“ A foggy day in Fuji ”

We had an excellent day in the Fuji area of Japan with Motoyuki. He was very friendly and informative. We visited the 5th Station on Mount Fuji and went for a walk beneath the slopes. Unfortunately due to the ever-present Fuji clouds, we didn't get a great view of the mountain, but it was very atmospheric and almost haunting. From there we had an authentic Japanese-style lunch - we tried a number of new foods, not all to our palates, but it was certainly an experience. Moto will help you feel at home even when you're eating horse intestines! Later, we visited Aokigahara Forest, which didn't disappoint. The forest is dense and very quiet, and despite its reputation, is a very beautiful, green and lush environment. I'd have liked to gone deeper into the forest but due to time, we stuck t... read more
