Overview

This is a small-group taxi tour for cruise ship passengers anchored in Shimizu Port. Although several bus tours might be offered for them on the ship, some people still prefer flexibility of a small group. If you are traveling by land, a taxi can also pick you up in the Shizuoka City area.

What to Expect

・At Kunozan Toshogu Shrine, which has been designated as a "National Treasure", you can see the venerable buildings and amazing carvings on them, and the guide explains the history of the shrine.
・If the weather is fine, you can enjoy the magnificent view of Mt. Fuji from Nihondaira as well as from Miho Pine Grove. (But please do not hold high expectations for viewing Mt. Fuji because we can not see it well when the weather is bad.)
・We will ride a cable car to Kunozan Toshogu. From the window of the cable car, you can look down at the dynamic landscape of Mt. Kuno and the wonderful view of the Pacific Ocean.
・This region, Shizuoka, is famous for the production of green tea leaves. So, on the way to the Pine Grove, we make a brief stop at Nihondaira Ocha Kaikan, where you can enjoy a cup of local green tea beside the tea field.

Important

1. This tour has 4-guest maximum capacity. But, if you are a group of 5 or 6 and are interested in this itinerary, please contact me anyway and I will see if it's possible.
2. Kunozan Toshogu Shrine has a relatively large number of stone steps in its compound, which may be a little demanding. The facilities at either end of the cable car also have a lot of steps. So please tell me beforehand if that's going to be a problem.
3. Please refrain from resorting to the "direct booking." I hope you will book after we reach an agreement over the itinerary and the total price (including the taxi fare) through the exchange of text messages.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this tour exclusively for cruise ship passengers anchored in Shimizu Port?

Not necessarily. If you are traveling by land, I can also pick you up (or drop you off) at JR Shizuoka Station or your hotel in Shizuoka City.

How physically demanding are the steps of Kunozan Toshogu Shrine?

It seems to me that it completely depends on the person. Some people look exhausted while others say, "This is not that hard." To be precise, there are more than 100 stone steps in the shrine's precinct. They are not 100 consecutive steps but several sets of steps scattered around the precinct. And what should be noted is that you sometimes have to really step up to get to the next step. This particular layout of the steps may have come from the fact that a castle once stood there before Toshogu Shrine was constructed (Japanese castles were often designed so that intruders couldn't enter easily). I hope you will hold the railings and climb up the steps at your own pace.

Can I make changes after I book?

Yes! If you need to make changes such as removing or adding someone to your booking or changing the date or time of your tour, contact us by phone or email

Starting and ending points of the tour.

What happens after I book a tour?

After booking a tour, the guide will accept (or decline) your booking within 24 hours. Then you will be noticed by email from Triplelights.

Is the price per person or per group?

The price is charged per group. Which means that you make a one-time payment for your entire group and the price will not change if it is less or more people.

Can I add more people to my booking?

Some guides accept extra people (more than the specified number) for an extra charge. Please check for the extras on the tour or booking page, or contact your guide directly to clarify.

Will there be other tourists in my tour?

No. Your tour is private, only for you and your family or friends, there will be no other group of tourists together in your tour.

Can the guide pickup me at the airport?

Yes, but there will be additional charge for that and it is not by car. The guide will go pick you up using public transportations. For further details, please contact your guide directly.

I'm travelling alone. Can I book this tour?

Yes, you can and you may be able to get a discount if you are traveling alone. Price depends on which guide you choose.

“ Best of the Best !! ”

Koji is a very kind and pleasant person to spend the day with. He has a very deep knowledge of the area and was able to answer all our questions. His driver, Totsu, is a very safe driver and also speaks English. Both of these gentleman represent their country very well. You could not visit a more friendly welcoming city than Shimizu. I could go on and on about how we meet so many kind souls in this city. Great port and wonderfull guide. We will never forget the day we spent with Koji and Totsu. Thank you so much !! Koji picked us up at the port together with a very nice taxi driver. We booked a 5 hours tour but due to the beautiful weather conditions, Koji showed us during 6 hours so many nice and interesting places with an excellent English and lot of knowledge. “ Shimizu Tour - Wheelchair Accessible ”

We enjoyed a great tour of Shimuzu organised for us by our tour guide Koji. Koji was extremely professional and very helpful in understanding the needs of someone in a wheelchair. My husband is a high functioning quadriplegic who uses a lightweight manual folding wheelchair. We appreciated the excellent communications prior to our tour from Koji- regarding our itinerary and our wheelchair access requirements and having informed Koji of our particular tour requirements, he organised a wheelchair accessible van with driver for our tour and planned a wheelchair accessible itinerary for us. Thankyou for a wonderful in Shimuzu. Peter & Suzy Hengstberger Australia

Koji:

Dear Suzanne, Many thanks for writing the good review! I am glad you seem to have finished your cruize ship journey safely. I also had an enjoyable time with you two. Please give my best regards to your wonderful husband Peter. And I hope that you two will stay well and continue to encourage people around you. Thank you very much.

“ Our visit to Shimizu ”

Koji was a wonderful guide. During all the months that we were planning our day in Shimizu, he was always very responsive and flexible. He did everything in his power to show us all that we wanted to see. Koji was punctual on the day of the tour and was very thoughtful. He brought us water, umbrellas and towels because it was raining. He explained everything to us very well. His English is very understandable. I would recommend Koji to any of my friends who visit Shimizu. Thank you, Koji!

Koji:

Dear Ada, Many thanks for writing the wonderful review! Those words really give me a motivation to move forward as a tour guide. I hope you have finished your Japan tour with good memories. And as I said to you in the car, please contact me anytime if there is something I can help you with. Thank you very much.
