What to Expect

・At Kunozan Toshogu Shrine, which has been designated as a "National Treasure", you can see the venerable buildings and amazing carvings on them, and the guide explains the history of the shrine.
・If the weather is fine, you can enjoy the magnificent view of Mt. Fuji from Nihondaira as well as from Miho Pine Grove. (But please do not hold high expectations for viewing Mt. Fuji because we can not see it well when the weather is bad.)
・We will ride a cable car to Kunozan Toshogu. From the window of the cable car, you can look down at the dynamic landscape of Mt. Kuno and the wonderful view of the Pacific Ocean.
・If we still have time, we might have a chance to enjoy local green tea in a tea field.

What‘s included

Guide fee, tour guide's transportation fees

What‘s not included

Admission fee for Kunozan Toshogu. (1,650 yen per person. This is a combined ticket for Toshogu, cable car and Toshogu Museum. The guests don't need to pay for the tour guide's tickets.)
Rental car fee. (This is only for a party of 5 or more people excluding the tour guide. The price varies according to the conditions, but the average price is about 15,000 yen.)
Food or drink the guests might buy on the way.

Important

1. If your party is made up of 5 people or more, I need to use a large-sized retal car as a main method of transportation. The price of a rental car varies according to the conditions, such as the type of car and the rental car company. When the particular car we will use is decided, I will tell you the price.
2. Kunozan Toshogu Shrine has a relatively large number of stone steps in its compound, which may be a little demanding. So please tell me beforehand if that's going to be a problem.

“ Great half day tour of Shimizu ”

Koji explained the history and highlights of the shrine and the pine forest with the exceptional view of Mt Fuji. The couple we weee with could not climb to some of the sights so Koji explained the significance which painted a picture of the sight for them

Koji:
Dear Joel, Many thanks for writing the good review! I am relieved you seem to have arrived home safely. Although it was only regrettable that Rechard and Laurie couldn't see Kunozan Toshogu to the fullest, I hope that they enjoyed the four-hour tour as a whole, regardless. Please send my best wishes to everybody (including your wonderful wife Jamie), and contact me anytime if you like. Thank you very much.

“ Shore excursion from port Shimizu ”

We were meet at the pier by Koji. Easy to find and on time. We had booked a day tour online. Very easy to get in contact whit Koji and fast reply. We drove to the waterfalls, it is beautiful. Koji was informing underway in the car and talked about the sights we visited. Great stop at a sake brewery and the best, a stop at a the farm. It was a great day and we would book Koji again if we have the opportunity.

Koji:

“ Our great 4 hour tour in Shimizu from the ship. ”

I had booked this 4 hour tour for when our ship docked in Shimizu for the day. Koji was waiting for us when we disembarked. We had a marvellous day visiting Kunozan Toshogu Shrine, Mt Fuji Observatory, a green tea plantation and Miho Pine Grove. One of our group was 90 yrs old and Koji was very considerate of her needs. His English was excellent. At the end of our tour he offered good recommendations for what we could do/ see for the remainder of our time in Shimizu. He was a great guide and we were extremely happy with his tour for the day.

Koji:
Dear Elaine. Thank you for writing the good review. Your warm comment about me is more than I deserve, and I am very glad you seem to have enjoyed the tour in Shimizu. Looking back..., the sight of you facing and overcoming the one hundred stone steps in Kunozan Toshogu was impressive, and I do hope even that experience have already been turned into a good memory of Japan in you. And to know that she was actually 90 was a big surprise to me. I thought she was a wonderful person, being good-natured and very understanding (as with the rest of you). Thank you very much anyway, and I hope someday you will visit Japan again!

“ Excellent Day in Shimizu ”

If you are visiting Shimizu and want to book a private tour, this is the one for you. Koji is a very professional guide with good knowledge of the local area. He speaks English quite well. He met us at the cruise ship pier and drove up in his personal auto. We visited all of the sights on the itinerary, spending the amount of time we wanted. Some very unique experiences---Mt Fugi viewing, pine grove forest/beach, tea tasting fresh from tea field, cable car ride and famous shrine visit, plus cherry blossom viewing. What could be better.

Koji:
Dear Jerry. Thank you very much for your kind words, and I also thank you for teaching me the proper way to drink Scotch whisky. I am glad to know that you seemed to enjoy the tour in Shimizu. I had a fun time with you, too, and learned a lot from you. Well, although I am not sure I am "that" good as a tour guide, I am studying every day to improve my guiding skills as well as English skills. So I hope you and Janice will revisit Shimizu someday to confirm my progress(!) and to learn more about the region. May you both be happy and blessed with good health!
