Overview

Keisoku-ji was re-built by the Venerable, Saicho (767-822 AD), and named after footmarks of a chicken left on accumulated snow. The monk found an Eleven-headed Deity of Mercy in burned-out ruins, and then opened tremendous area of many Buddhist temples. Though the temple became deserted now, the breath-taking beauty of hundreds of colored leaves attracts so many people just like the old days.

What to Expect

This "One Day Tour for Autumnal Leaves around Keisoku-ji Temple & Shizugatake Old Battlefield" consists of the following 2 major courses;
1) Morning Course
We can visit representative old temples (Keisoku-ji and Shakudo-ji), ruins and related treasure houses of the land of MAHOROBA (an Ideal place filled with happiness). We can also appreciate breathtaking autumnal beauty of the old mountainous temple in late fall.
2) Afternoon Course
We can visit one of the most famous old battlefields, Mt. Shizugatake in the midst of the age of Provincial Wars (1583). We climb up to the summit too by a lift, from where we can see the fantastic vista of both Lake Biwa and Lake Yogo.
The total distance is about 30km, including climbing the mountain. We can take lunch at Kinomoto.

[Note] Both 1) and 2) are to be cancelled if it heavily rains.
