Overview

Tenjinbashi-suji Shopping Arcade in Osaka is 2.6 km long with more than 600 restaurants and stores. It is the longest fully covered arcade in Japan where ordinary Osaka people eat and shop every day. We will start our tour at Temmangu Shrine, wishing for the success of our day. Then, we will leisurely walk up to the north, stopping at variety of shops and nibbling favorite local foods.

What to Expect

In this tour, I would like you to experience how ordinary Osaka people live.

Among all that's on offer you can stop at different 100 yen shops for you to find unique gudgets for yourself or souveniors for your friends.

We'll taste all the popular Osaka street-food along the way: Octopus balls, potato croquettes or fish-shaped pancakes filled with sweet beans are all here.
For lunch or dinner, we can stop at an okonomiyaki(Japanese pizza/pancake) parlor, a kushikatsu(deep-fried meats and vegetables on a skewer) restaurant or queue up to eat super fresh sushi.

I will introduce you to interesting backstrees and alleyways. If you wish, we could also visit a pachinko parlor, a vertical pinball machine which 30 million Japanese people play. However, as pachinko is a small form of gambling, all participants must be 18 years old or older.

This tour is flexible and how you want to spend a day is very much up to you. Let me know what your main interests are, and I will design your day around them!

“ Good guide, nice man ”

Half day tour in Kobe, Japan Nov 12, 2018. Toichi took us to a sake brewery for a wonderful tour, then on the metro (and he showed us how we could use it for our next day in Kobe on our own). He took us to china town and a large upscale department store with a rather incredible food court on the basement level and to a german bar/restaurant for a beer (our request). We also went to a tall building with a view of the entire city. He explained the history of Japan and various customs and language and was very knowledgeable. He is a very nice man and a great guide. Price was reasonable for services provided. Highly recommended.

Toichi:

Dear Jim, Thank you very much for taking a time to write a review. I was not totally sure if I was able to provide you with services you expected as I was not too knowledgeable of Kobe as much as Osaka, Kyoto and Nara. I hope you and your wife had a good time in Japan and you went back with some good memories. Best regards, Toichi

“ Nara and Osaka ”

I contacted Toichi for 2 tours in Nara and Osaka for a small group of travellers. The services provided were excellent and Toichi is a very knowledgeable and friendly person. He brought materials with information for everybody. And was very attentive at the group. And he had his guide sign as a small frog which helped us because it was visible in the crowds. He helped us and explained the difference of dry sake, cold and hot sake, plum wine (another form of sake). And as a very big plus he speaks english very well. I highly recomend him if you want to have a memorable trip in Japan. Thank you!

Toichi:

Thank you very much for taking a time to write a review. Even though I always try to do the best as I can, I sometimes don’t know what I do is good enough to make your trip in Jopan as interesting and memorable. So your extremely kind comments make me assure I am doing the right thing. I used to travel a lot usually on my own, but I realize it is quite difficult to get to know the place and people within a short period of time. But I do hope I was able to provide you with some understandings of Japanese cultures and people through me. Hopefully you will go back to your country with some good memories of Japan which you can recall in 10 years time! Multumesc and Good Luck!

“ Focuses on You! ”

Toichi went above and beyond. He contacted me several times leading up to the days we spent with him. I have a food allergy. He went out to restaurants ahead of time to locate businesses that could accommodate my special needs. He even sent me pictures of some of the dishes offered. We had a change of heart on our first day, and decided to go to an entirely different part of Kyoto. He was totally supportive of our change of heart and we had a great day. He taught us Japanese words, gave us historical background, taught us about everyday life in Japan, and generally gave 100 percent to us during the time we were together. He offered information to us also about cities he knew we'd be visiting in the future. I highly recommend Toichi!

Toichi:

Dear Helen, Thank you very very much for your utmost comment. I am so flattered. I am always worried with the clients who have food restrictions, but I am glad it somehow worked out on the day. Hope you and your husband had a nice time for the rest of your trip in Japan, and I am happy you went back to your home safely. Now autumn leaves are in season. I was in Nara yesterday and I will guide the group of 12 people in Osaka today. Wish you would enjoy your retirement to the fullest. Do all the things you could not do when you were working. GOOD LUCK!

We had a lovely informative tour with Toichi. The day was very enjoyable and we learnt a lot about Japan. Thank you Toichi for a great tour and we highly recommend you as a guide.

Toichi:

Thank you very much for taking a time to write a review, Heather. I was quite impressed that we walked quite a lot and did a lot of thing s within our time together. Hope I was able to help you to understand Japan a bit, so you can enjoy the rest of your trip more. Have fun in Nara and Hiroshima and don’t hesitate to send me messages if you have any questions.

“ Nara and Osaka ”

Our group of 4 had a wonderful time with Toichi. If you are looking for a guide with lots of energy, happy to share his knowledge of Japan, then Toichi is the perfect guide. He was easy to understand, answering all our questions, making any adjustments to our walk - adding a peek at an interesting alley, to see another shrine or temple or stroll a small hidden garden. And, he definitely knows where to eat! Another plus was the open communication with Toichi prior to our tour date. He took care of us from the time we booked the tour, until we said good-by and he sent us on our train back to Kyoto. Arigato, Toichi!

Toichi:

Dear Janet, Thank you very much for your wonderful review. I had a good time spending a day with you yesterday. In fact, I wished I spoke with you more if we had more time! Another place to go in Kyoto is Eikando Temple in the evening. The temple is starting the evening light-up of the garden from today between 5:30pm and 8:30pm. It is 5 mins north of Nanzenji Temple and the entrance fee is ¥600. I think you should just take a cab if you want to avoid long walking. (Though, Nanzenji Temple on the way is also nice, and you can check BIwako waterway and see how Kyoto people tried to bring water from Lake Biwa in the northeast.) Anyway, hope the rest of your trip in Japan will be wonderful. Please say hellos to Dennis, Brian and Donna and good luck! Toichi
