Ura-Namba, backstreets in Namba, has lots of great little shops, restaurants and bars for the locals.
I will take you to the streets and ask you choose 2-3 spots and restaurants to visit.
You'll start the tour from Nipponbashi (Osaka's sub-cultural mecca) or Doguyasuji (kitchen equipment street including potteries and knives) and end the tour in Dotonbori. Kuromon Market is optional.

What to Expect

Before ending the tour on the famous Dotonbori street, you can enjoy your own preferred way of digging into Namba by visiting places such as:
- Small local diners/bars that you can go hopping;
- Local sushi bar that serves sushi from the chef
- Doguyasuji street, a shopping arcade dedicated to providing cooking tools and equipment both for homes and professional chefs including Japanese knives, plastic foods, tacoyaki grills and more;
- Kuromon Market for food stands and local specialties; and
- Nipponbashi sub-culture area for gadget shopping at DenDen town, visiting a cat-cafe, maid-cafe, game and anime shops, etc.; and/or Karaoke bar/restaurant that you can enjoy food and singing in a private space.
- Shinsekai if you want to see the retro atmosphere of Osaka from the Showa-era. Tsutenkaku tower is illuminated at night with other 3D signs which gives you a chance to take a perfect Osaka shot.

I will make sure to maximize your precious and limited time in Namba without having communication and/or wandering problems, and even more, you will enjoy interacting with Osaka locals who are known as so much fun to chat/drink with!

  • Dotonbori

  • Nipponbashi
  • Kuromon Market
  • Shinsekai & Tsutenkaku (need an extra hour)

1. The tour is 3.5-4 hours depending on where we go. You can choose a few spots and one or two places to eat and drink that can be covered within 3.5- 4 hours.
2. If you'd like to visit Doguyasuji and/or Kuromon market, I recommend starting by 16:30 as most shops there close around 18:00.
3. The cost of food and drink for you and guide is not included in your guide fee. (ex. glass of beer: 300-600 yen, small dish: 300-500 yen, main dish: 500-1,000 yen, takoyaki: 500-700 yen, etc.) Please understand this is not a typical sightseeing tour, rather focus on eating and drinking at a local place in Osaka, frequently referred to as the country's kitchen, which is why the tour rate is set low
4. Please have enough cash to pay at a small restaurant/bar which normally takes cash only.
5. Namba has a variety of restaurants/bars from high-end sushi bars to very reasonable stand-up bars, so I will choose one as per your budget and what kind of food you'd like to eat. It will be helpful if you can tell me your preference in advance.
6. Please note that most small restaurants/bars are not smoke-free especially during dinner/bar time in Japan.

Hello, I am Seiko! I was born and grew up in Kurashiki (Okayama pref.) until high school, spent my college days in Kyoto, and currently living in Osaka.
I studied Hospitality and Tourism Management at the University of Wisconsin, as well.
I myself am a traveler for life, been to more than 30 countries and all the prefectures in Japan and always excited to help travel planning for my friends/clients coming to Japan. I am also a hiker, kayaker, scuba diver, and snowboarder enjoying myself mostly outdoors in every season.
I would especially love to show you things that are rarely found in your guidebook or difficult to do as tourists from other countries as well as the beauty of the nature and rural areas in Japan.
Besides city tours in Osaka and Kyoto, my tours can stretch to introducing local foods, bar-hopping, sake/beer breweries, visiting secret local spots, excursions to enjoy the nature such as walking/hiking tours, onsen day-out, and more!
Let's have fun time and unique experience with me!

*Please check my original tours in Kyoto and Osaka. These tour rates are more reasonable than booking a custom tour with me!

*Please note below before booking:
1. Transportation fee, entrance fee, and lunch/dinner for you and guide is NOT included in the base rate. (Licensed guides normally get free admission at temples, shrines and certain tourist attractions.)
2. Hotel pick-up is optional for custom booking tours. It is 1,000 - 1,500 yen depending on your hotel and tour location, and hotel drop-off after the tour is not included.

“ Great night out - getting close to people ”

Turned out to be an excellent idea to spend the evening with someone who knows the whereabouts of the city. Great "insider"-food, dishes a foreigner would not even consider to taste since he has no clue that they exist - down to earth dishes and thanks to the local guide immediate interaction with local guests, great fun, lovely people. Experience continued in a Sake Bar ...--> absolute take advantage of someone who knows the backstreets and can bring you closer to every day Japanese live.

“ A great way to experience Osaka in the evening. ”

This was a fun tour - relaxing and got to see the little bars and restaurants - enjoying the local sake and delicious food, followed by the bright lights of Dotonbori. Seiko explained many features of the culture in Osaka which was very interesting. Seiko was a great guide - thoroughly recommend this tour with Seiko especially if you feel like a fun night out.

“ Great tour of Kyoto ”

Our family of 5 had a great day tour of Kyoto with Seiko. She put together an interesting itinerary based on our requests. She was patient and thoughtful, contacting us several times before the tour to recommend start times and locations, according to the weather and our requests. Her English is excellent and she provided detailed information on all the sights. The highlight for our family (all over the drinking age!), was a tour of a sake museum, a walk around the area and sake tasting. She introduced us to a whole new delicious type of sake, which we proceeded to drink everywhere we could find it! She gave us insight and tours of places we would never have found, or known about with out her help. We highly recommend her. She also followed up after the tour with some recommendations of places she thought we would like. Thank you, Seiko! Much appreciated.

“ Very knowledgeable and personable! ”

Seiko helped plan a comprehensive Kyoto itinerary for us, helping us cover most of what we wanted to see in Kyoto. We had no problem communicating with her at all, with her excellent English skills, and she was very personable and knowledgeable about all the sites we visited, taking the time to explain to us the culture and history behind them. Thank you very much for making our Kyoto tour a very informative and smooth one!

“ Friendly and knowledgeable ”

Seiko was the perfect guide for us! She is very knowledgeable and tireless. We explored around Osaka on one day, and toured Fushimi & Uji on another, including sake and tea tasting. She knew wonderful places to take us, many of which were not typical tourist places. She was a pleasure to be with and her English is excellent. Highly recommend booking Seiko!

“ Exceeded expectations! ”

Seiko was so awesome - we miss her! My wife and I were visiting Japan for the first time, as well as celebrating our honeymoon. We knew having someone local to help with the language, as well as the history and culture, would be a huge help to getting the most from our visit. This was our first time hiring a guide of any kind, so we were a bit nervous what to expect. We opted to choose 1 or 2 of TripleLights' suggestions, but mostly we wanted to design our own trip. Seiko not only paid close attention to our ideas and wishes, but she expanded on them and suggested exciting options we hadn't considered. With a few effortless email exchanges, Seiko created a very personalized itinerary that maximized our time together and exceeded what we thought possible in our allotted time! We would not hesitate to book more time with her, and we highly recommend her. Thanks again, Seiko!

“ Wonderful! ”

We had a very great experience with Seiko! She met us at the café next to our hotel, and we walked the streets of Dotonburi on our way to Osaka Castle. She was friendly and so nice! She also brought us to Kuromon Market which was one of the best experiences of our trip! We loved it so much, we went back for more street food! She was so patient with us and gave us the ability to customize our tour and stop at places we wanted to go! It was fun getting to know her and she was very outgoing! We will definitely recommend and call her on our next visit to Japan! Thank you so much Seiko for the wonderful tour!!!

“ A Unique Experience ”

I had a wonderful time with Seiko on my excursion to Wazuka and Uji. The tea fields in Wazuka were beautiful and I enjoyed shopping for green teas in Uji. Seiko was knowledgeable and we had great conversation throughout our time together. I'd highly recommend Seiko as your tour guide.

“ Uji, fushimi inari ”

Seiko was really wonderful. She was knowledgeable and showed us parts of Kyoto we might not have ever thought of (like where the cormorant fishing area and the statue of Genji are). She was pleasant and accommodating and was truly great to see the city with. I really enjoyed the tea district and was able to buy green tea in an old tea house where dignitaries have stopped in to visit. I will definitely recommend her services to friends and family visiting Kyoto!

“ Great one day tour of Osaka ”

Seiko could not have been more accommodating during the planning of the tour as well as during the tour itself. She has a wonderful attitude as well as an understanding of the locations we visited. I have no complaints whatsoever and would recommend her highly.

“ Excellent! ”

Despite the rain, we had a GREAT tour with Seiko, and her friend Kuriko (who spoke Spanish (as my wife is Spanish). We visited everywhere planned, and before all the crowds arrived on the tour buses, and had a great (and cheap) meal in a local restaurant. A wonderful day with someone who has great enthusiasm and infectious humour. THANK you.

Seiko made our stay in Japan more exciting and memorable. I love our Kyoto tour! Aside from speaking english very well, she's very patient with us, we are a family of 5, i have 3 boys with me, just imagine that. I will definitely recommend her. Hopefully when we comeback, we can have her again as our tour guide.
