What to Expect

This tour is designed for those who wish to explore izakaya ( Japanese-style taverns ) and to enjoy sightseeing in Minami ( South ) Area, Osaka. The tour starts at Jan-jan alley in Shin-Sekai ( the New World ), the name of which is said to have come from the noisy sound of practicing the shamisen ( three-stringed instruments ) before World War II. This alley retains a good old atmosphere of the commoners' town. Next you will move into the core part of Shin-Sekai, which has recently become one of the busiest tourist attractions in Osaka. Shin-Sekai streets are lined with many izakaya and kushikatsu ( deep-fried beef and vegetables on skewers ) restaurants. Then you will go up to the observatory of Tsutenkaku Tower modeled after the Eiffel Tower of Paris. You can take in the twilight view of Osaka from the observation deck, including the sunset on clear autumn days.
Five minute walk brings you to the first izakaya, which has a long history and has been favored by local people. This restaurant fulfills all the requirements for good izakaya; friendly atmosphere, sophisticated taste of dishes, long establishment, reasonable prices and the like. If you wish, you can easily talk with customers sitting next to you.
After ten minute walk through Nippon-bashi Streets ( similar to Akihabara in Tokyo ), you will be at a standing pub in Namba. This pub stores scores of different brands of Japanese sake in a large refrigerated showcase. You can also enjoy tasting a variety of dishes from Japanese-style to western-style. This pub is loved by young women as well as middle-aged men.
You will visit a third and last izakaya near the standing pub. There are a couple of nice izakaya restaurants with unique characteristics. One of the izakayas is run by a sake taster who offers you fresh and delicious sashimi ( sliced raw fish ) which goes very well with locally brewed sake. Another izakaya is popular with office workers because the lady staff amuse customers with her witty and comical talk.
On the way to Subway Namba Station, you will stop at Hozenji Temple alley and Ebisu-bashi Bridge famous for a big signboard of Glico athlete with hands up. Hozenji alley is an old Osaka quarter lined with Japanese-style restaurants, pubs and bars which were and are frequented by entertainers working in Dotombori area. Your tour ends at Ebisu-bashi Bridge for photo taking against the background of the Glico runner.

What‘s included

guide fee

What‘s not included

entrance fee for Tsutenkaku Tower observation deck (¥700 ) and dinner at three izakayas ( about ¥7,000 for five drinks and 7-8 plates of dishes per person )

Important

In addition to the guide fee, you will be asked to pay around 7,000 yen per person for the charge at three izakaya restaurants. The charge may vary a little according to what and how much you drink and eat. You can eat 7-8 plates of dishes and 5 drinks of alcohol such as beer, Japanese sake and wine on average. If you share the dishes with your partners and guide, you can try a wider variety of food. The guide also pays around 7,000 yen for the charge at the izakayas.
We Japanese have a custom of warikan or a Dutch treat, but that does not always mean that we pay for exactly what we ate and drank. Some people eat and drink more than others. In our custom, however, that is often the case and excusable. Nobody complains about that. If you will join in my tour, remember this, please.

Extras (optional)

hotel pick-up in Osaka area. 18.00 USD
extra hour . 31.50 USD

“ The best! ”

We had a lovely time touring with Yoshie-san along the shrines and temples of Kyoto. Yoshie-san is very informative with every places we've visited. At the end of the tour, we ate in an izakaya place. Being a tour guide is a tiring and challenging job, but Yoshie-san told me that it is a fulfilling one as he gets to meet other people and tell them about Kyoto's vibrant history. My friends and I wish to return the favor of touring Yoshie-san and his wife should he visit the Philippines someday!

Yoshihisa:
Hi, Lois. Thank you very much for your nice review. I am glad that you and your friends had a wonderful time at the temples, the shrines and the izakaya in Fushimi. The pleasant memory with you in Kyoto will long linger on like the sound of a temple bell, I believe. I'd like to see you in the Philippines someday. Yoshie

“ Kobe Tour Excursion ”

Yoshie was our tour guide in Kobe for a day and a half. From the start, communication was excellent and he was able to come up with an acceptable itinerary for our diverse party of six. He is quite flexible and was able to arrange everything we wanted to see. When we arrived in Kobe on a cruise ship, the immigration process was delayed and we were not able to reach the starting point until over an hour later, but Yoshie was still there waiting patiently for us. We were able to visit Ijinkan, had a fantastic traditional Japanese lunch in Arima which was beyond our expectations, took a ropeway to Mt. Rokko, rode a cable car down the mountain, visited Nankinmachi (Chinatown), and Harborland. Thank you for showing us Kobe!

Yoshihisa:
Hi Colleen. Thank you so much for your nice review. It was a pity that you could not join in the tour next day. But I am really pleased all of you enjoyed every minute of the tour in Kobe, Arima and Rokko. It was a new discovery to find such a nice Japanese restaurant in Arima. I would like to take some friends to the restaurant again someday soon. Thank you, Colleen. Give my best regards to your group members. Yoshie

“ Beautiful day in Osaka ”

My family had a beautiful & interesting day in Osaka with Yoshie. Yoshie is a knowledgeable guide and accompanied us to all the places & spots that we wanted to see in Osaka & we also had a very delicious lunch in a famous Kushikatsu restaurant. Thank you for a beautiful day tour in Osaka Yoshie. We wish you all the best.

Yoshihisa:
Hi, Lady. Thank you for your nice review. I am glad that the double-flowered cherry trees at Japan Mint Garden were still in full blossom. I'm also pleased to learn that you enjoyed having the kushikatsu lunch at Yaekatsu in Shin-Sekai. I'm looking forward to seeing you and your family again. Yoshie

“ Kyoto 2 Day Tour ”

Our favorite ninja, Yoshie, provided an excellent two day guided tour experience. We wanted to see as much as possible in a short time without feeling rushed. Yoshie was able to accomplish just that, and we will forever appreciate his efforts.

Yoshihisa:
Hi, Andrea. Thank you very much for your quick and nice review. I really had an enjoyable time with you and Suzanne for two days. I was pleased that two of you asked me lots of questions about each and every place we visited. Your suggestion of visiting the main hall of Ninnaji Temple instead of the chrry-blossom garden proved to be very informative to me. Thank you again. I hope the good memory will linger on like the sound of a temple bell for both of us. Yoshie

“ Nara Tour with the best tour guide ”

The best guide anyone can ever ask for! He was very kind and wanted to share with us as much information as he possibly can for us to get the broader picture.. we really enjoyed our time with him and would recommend him to anyone that really wants to get the Nara experience.

Yoshihisa:
Hi, Noura. Thank you for your nice review. It was the first time to guide a group of young ladies from Saudi Arabia and I was a bit hesitant about how to deal with you. But soon I realized I should behave as I do with other foreign tourists. Noura, you were so curious about our history and culture that I had lots of fun talking to you. I wished you could stay longer in Nara and see some more places to visit. Please get in touch with me next time you visit Kyoto. Best wishes. Yoshihisa
