“ Kyoto without the usual crowds ”

We left it to Richard to devise a slightly off the beaten track itinerary for us in Kyoto and we enjoyed several temples and shrines that were not at all crowded. He was quite a character and entertained us with some history of shinto and buddhism and the shogun era. He hosted a sake tasting which was interesting but ultimately a bit pricey.

Richard:

Thank you so much for your kind words. I did try to take you to places that were off the beaten path and teach you things that you would've not learned with any other guide. I am not sure why ¥3000 per person for a premium sake tasting of sakes you will probably never get to experience again was high for you in an authentic 300 year old former Samurai residence with homemade Japanese appetizers was expensive to you but....... Six years first complaint. I do apologize. If you ever get a chance to come again we will not book that. Kind regards Richard

“ Great Time ”

Richard was fantastic. He’s knowledgeable... lots of local, prefect and national history, philosophy and religion. Got along great with my 3 teenage boys. We connected and he ensured we had a good time. Certainly the best guide of our tours. Highly recommended.

Richard:

Thank you guys so much!!!! Your kids are awesome and Jake still has me flustered over the countries he knows!!!! LOL I hope you enjoyed the game and got there and back easily. Please let me know if I can ever help you in the future. If you have the time to also write on TripAdvisor and tell them you found me here on TripleLights, I would deeply appreciate it. Please check out Bottle Logic Brewing and let me know how it goes. Ha Ha Ha... I know you love your beer! Kind regards, Richard

“ Kyoto at its best ”

We thoroughly enjoyed our day in Kyoto with Richard. We visited fabulous sites including the Temple of the Golden Pavilion, the bamboo forest and Zen temple and the Fushimi-Inari Shrine. A highlight of our visit was a traditional Japanese lunch at a private home. Richard was very engaging, knowledgeable, entertaining and genuine. His sense of humor was contagious. We recommend him without reservations.

“ Cultural Kyoto ”

Richard spent a day and a half with four of us in Kyoto. We had a marvelous overview interspersed liberally with sake and tasty tidbits at the market stalls. He is knowledgeable and engaging with ready wit and an endless store of tales, more or less credible! We experienced sake tasting, a tea ceremony, evening with an apprentice geisha, a day trip to Arashiyama temple and bamboo forest. Our time there was packed with all manner of sensory stimulation not least because Richard knew where to take us and what to do in our limited time. It was also nice to be able to communicate in a language in which all of us were fluent. Great guide! Fun trip! Thanks Richard. We enjoyed ourseives.

Richard:

Well I'm very happy you guys had a good time Only 4 stars? Wow. You guys laughed the entire time. Whats up with that? LOL. I will have to be on my toes when you return then so I can top that! Thanks for allowing me to pack your trip in and I hope you took home some great memories of Japan. :)

“ Incredible 2 Days in Kyoto with Richard! ”

5 Stars seems wholly inadequate to rate our experience with Richard these past two days. We had an absolutely unbelievable experience. Our first day included several shrines, feeding monkeys at a monkey park up a mountain, a delicious authentic Japanese lunch at a private home and the greatest walk through a food market of my life (stopping to taste the best roasted duck, fatty tuna, sake, wagyu beef and more) and much more! Our second day was highlighted by a castle tour and a traditional Japanese tea ceremony. I have been on private tours around the world and Richard ranks among the absolute best guides I have ever had. He kept my family of five engaged and having fun the entire time. He is a consummate storyteller as well as a food and drink connoisseur which was so appreciated by a... read more

Richard:

Thank you so much Todd, for the kind words. I am sorry I had to drag you everywhere and I hope my pace was not too bad. But strategically placed sake spots assisted us along the way and we were even able to avoid your 4 o'clock slump!!!! LOL You have an amazing family and I was honored to be able to take them around. If you ever need me for anything, never hesitate and let me know. Have fun in the country! I'm a little jealous. Kind regards Richard
