Okayama prefecture is known as the land of fair weather ‘hare no kuni’, due to its moderate temperature and low rainfall.
The main attractions of Okayama-prefecture are the cities of Okayama and Kurashiki.
First, we’ll visit Korakuen Garden, one of the three most beautiful gardens in Japan.
The garden was designed in the ‘Kaiyu’ ( scenic promenade ) style, in which circulating walking paths are provided for enjoying views of the garden.
So you’ll find a new view at every turn of the path which connects the vast lawns, ponds, hills, and streams.
The garden is also enjoyable in every season, and cherry blossom in spring and the colored leaves in autumn are especially famous, attracting many tourists.
When you get tired, why don’t you have a bowl of green tea and try the local dessert, ‘kibi-dango’, a soft, sweet rice cake at a rest house.
Then we’ll move to Kurashiki city. It takes only 20minutes to Kurashiki station by train.
You can reach the Bikan Historical Quarter in about seven minutes on foot from the station.
Between JR Kurashiki station and the old Bikan area, you walk through the typical urban Japanese scenery, which will make you wonder whether you are in the right town. But once you turn into the canal area everything changes. You’ll see a number of picturesque buildings such as old black-tiled houses around a stretch of moat. Bridges arch over, willows drip into water, and swans swim in the canal. The entire atmosphere is quite delightful.
Also a variety of gift shops and restaurants will make you feel that the town is definitely your favorite.
Kurashiki Ivy Square, the multi-purpose public space, was formerly a cotton mill. The picturesque ivy-covered red brick buildings house a hotel, restaurants,
gift shops and a cotton mill museum.
This museum was opened by Ohara Keisaburo in 1920’s, the owner of the Kurabo Textile Company.
The museum is surely Kurashiki’s premier museums and houses the predominantly European art collection of the owner.
“Annunciation” of El Greco is one of the most popular works of the museum.
The museum’s neoclassical façade is Kurashiki’s best-known landmark.
: Rickshaw riding
There is a Rickshaw service at the Bikan area. You can enjoy nice views of Historical Quarter on the Rickshaw.

Good day despite rain. Chizuru met us at our ship in the port with a taxi. Toured Peace Park and A bomb dome and Museum. Raining hard so could not see all the memorials. A highlight was the lunch she guided us to on Miyajima Island. It was a Japanese “pancake”, crepes with cabbage, pork, oysters and egg filling. Fun to watch it be prepared, Good English speaking guide.
Hi Fredrick, thank you for the tour review. Though the heavy rain fell for a while, the weather wasn't so bad on that day. Thanks to few tourists in both places, everything went smoothly. I appreciate that you took a through look at the exhibition of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. I would be happy if you could tell people around you the heartfelt wish of the world peace of Hiroshima. Thank you! Chizuru
I commend Chizuru-san’s caring attitude and professionalism. She is knowledgeable and observant. She is also quick in checking information for me, and great in managing timing to ensure the full day trip is smooth. I enjoyed the conversation with Chizuru-san, and look forward the next trip to engage her service again!
Hi Regina, thank you for your tour review. I'm glad you enjoyed the tour so much and the peach picking. You came to Okayama in the best season of peach picking. (Then September is the best season for grape picking.) Okayama is called "Fruit Kingdom"! I hope you will enjoy that next. I'm looking forward to seeing you again. Thank you. Chizuru
We had a great time going around with Chizuru. She was helpful from the start, helping me plan everything to make sure we have a great experience. She was also incredibly flexible when needed and was a great host to the Islands. We highly recommend her to anyone wanting a kind, friendly and attentive guide!
Hi Scott, I appreciate your tour review with a high evaluation. I had a wonderful time with you and your wife, Yan for two days. The weather was nice for both days. I relieved that everything went so smoothly though there were lots of people because of the international art festival. I wish you the happiness of your family. Chizuru
Chizuru was a great guide for my daughter and myself on a day trip to Naoshima Island. The logistics of getting to Naoshima and then getting around the island via busses were more than I wanted to plan, particularly with a child in tow, so it was great to be able to just relax and let someone guide us. She was also quite knowledgeable with respect to the art/architecture that we saw. I’d definitely recommend Chizuru as a guide.
Hi Alisa, thank you very much for the tour review with a high evaluation. I appreciate that. I really enjoyed the tour with you and your daughter. She was very nice and seemed to get used to traveling abroad. My daughter is already grown-up, so I really enjoyed the time with a child like you daughter. Thank you for coming all the way to Naoshima and I hope you will come to Japan again. Thank you. Chizuru
We met Chizuru promptly at 9.30 am in our hotel lobby. Our day was well organised and the timing of our visits to The Peace Museum and Miyajuma were not hurried. Chizuru speaks excellent English and is very knowledgeable. She went out of her way to help us buy some items in the supermarket after our trip. We thank her very much and would recommend Chizuru as a guide. J and K
Hi Kathryn, thank you for the tour review with a high evaluation. I’m very happy to receive it and glad to know that you enjoyed the tour very much. That was the most perfect day for sightseeing. It was a little cloudy day. The temperature was not so high. We enjoyed walking. And any sightseeing spots were not so crowded. Everything went so smoothly. So we could add one more spot. That is a beautiful Japanese style “Migratory garden, Shukkeien” That garden is a place to rest and relax for the people of Hiroshima. I’m glad to see you enjoy one of Hiroshima specialties, Okonomiyaki. Thank you for the wonderful time with you. Chizuru
