Okayama prefecture is known as the land of fair weather ‘hare no kuni’, due to its moderate temperature and low rainfall.
The main attractions of Okayama-prefecture are the cities of Okayama and Kurashiki.
First, we’ll visit Korakuen Garden, one of the three most beautiful gardens in Japan.
The garden was designed in the ‘Kaiyu’ ( scenic promenade ) style, in which circulating walking paths are provided for enjoying views of the garden.
So you’ll find a new view at every turn of the path which connects the vast lawns, ponds, hills, and streams.
The garden is also enjoyable in every season, and cherry blossom in spring and the colored leaves in autumn are especially famous, attracting many tourists.
When you get tired, why don’t you have a bowl of green tea and try the local dessert, ‘kibi-dango’, a soft, sweet rice cake at a rest house.
Then we’ll move to Kurashiki city. It takes only 20minutes to Kurashiki station by train.
You can reach the Bikan Historical Quarter in about seven minutes on foot from the station.
Between JR Kurashiki station and the old Bikan area, you walk through the typical urban Japanese scenery, which will make you wonder whether you are in the right town. But once you turn into the canal area everything changes. You’ll see a number of picturesque buildings such as old black-tiled houses around a stretch of moat. Bridges arch over, willows drip into water, and swans swim in the canal. The entire atmosphere is quite delightful.
Also a variety of gift shops and restaurants will make you feel that the town is definitely your favorite.
Kurashiki Ivy Square, the multi-purpose public space, was formerly a cotton mill. The picturesque ivy-covered red brick buildings house a hotel, restaurants,
gift shops and a cotton mill museum.
This museum was opened by Ohara Keisaburo in 1920’s, the owner of the Kurabo Textile Company.
The museum is surely Kurashiki’s premier museums and houses the predominantly European art collection of the owner.
“Annunciation” of El Greco is one of the most popular works of the museum.
The museum’s neoclassical façade is Kurashiki’s best-known landmark.
: Rickshaw riding
There is a Rickshaw service at the Bikan area. You can enjoy nice views of Historical Quarter on the Rickshaw.

My sister and I recently had the good fortune to take a tour of Naoshima with Chizuru. What a wonderful day we had! Chizuru met us promptly at the ferry dock in the morning and whisked us away on an art adventure. She took us to several Art House Project sites in the Honmura district, the Ando Museum, Chichu Art Museum, the Benesse House Museum, outdoor artworks including the Yayoi Kusama yellow pumpkin, and the Naoshima Bath I Love YU. There's just no way we would have been able to navigate that many locations and time it all properly without Chizuru's help. Chizuru is so knowledgeable about Naoshima art and shared so much with us. We really appreciated her generosity, kindness, humor and all of the ways she helped make the day seamless and fun. She rearranged her schedule to meet us... read more
Hi Paula, Thank you so much for your wonderful tour review. I’m glad and appreciate to receive that. You also gave me a fortune to be able to join a part of your special trip with your younger sister. I really enjoyed spending a lot of time talking with two of you. I wish you your health and happiness in the future. Warmest thought for Christmas and a Happy New Year! Chizuru
We had a wonderful day in Mia Jima and Hiroshima with Chizuru. Her English is excellent and she arranged our tour in a very thoughtful and convenient way, so that we could see as much as possible in the short time we had available. She even was able to take us on a high-speed boat from Miyajima Island to the Hiroshima peace park to save time. We were interested in a particular local dish, and she found a lovely restaurant for us, and ordered the food so that we had a fantastic meal. We particularly appreciated the way she showed us the peace park – her explanations were very thorough, heartfelt, and sensitive. It was a wonderful day and I highly recommend Chizuru as a guide!
Dear Molly, thank you for your tour review with a high evaluation and a lot of complements. I’m so glad to receive it and really appreciate it. Thanks to your cooperation, everything went smoothly in the limited time. I also enjoyed the tour with all of you. Thank you so much and I wish your health and happiness. Chizuru
We had hired Chizuru in Hiroshima because of my mother-in-law who has knee problems, and could not take the tours provided by the cruise company. Without surprise, Chizuru was like the previous reviews, an experience tour guide who has extensive knowledge of the island and the shrine. My family is very pleased with her service.
Hi, Bee-Lee, thank you for your tour review with complements. I'm glad to receive it. You were traveling with parents-in law. You supported them a lot. I believe they must have been very happy to have a wonderful time with you. I also enjoyed traveling with your family. Thank you for sharing a good time. Chizuru
The transportation in a day tour to one of the most important art center in Japan is not obvious. There is one taxi in the island, Ten vessels goes daily from Takamatsu and if you miss them or the local bus your trip to Naoshima will be absolutely not effective. We hired Chizuru and everything went smooth. We visited many interesting unique and hidden spots. Chizuru followed our priorities and offered unknown places from her experience. Lots of photo oppertunities and never missed any transportation mode. She has vast knowledge regarding the island and the art pcs. and artists. So we enjoyed very much her guidance during our day trip to Naoshima and hope to hire her again in the future.
Hi Avi Thank you so much for your tour review. I was surprised and very impressed by your comments because you recognized everything within a few hours that I always keep in mind such as the route, the transportation, the artworks, the artists and so on. I noticed that you were appreciating artworks and taking pictures of them quietly. Now I know that you are used to travel and have a sharp sense to recognize surrounding situation. I’m very grateful your complements. Thank you again. Chizuru
Chizuru is a great guide. She took care of all the logistics so all I had to do was show up. She had a lot of knowledge of the island and it’s art projects. She pointed out details and things that I wouldn’t notice or see on my own. I’m really happy I decided to get a guide for the day. I couldn’t have seen or learned as much as I did without her help. Plus she’s very friendly!
Hi Jenny, thank you for the tour review with a high evaluation. I also had a wonderful day with you. You are so lucky because of a nice weather and less crowded sites. We could go to the most art sites including an artistic shrine building on the top of the hill. It is often deleted because it takes time to go. I’m glad to know that you enjoyed the tour. Lastly, thank you for a mail with a picture. Arigatou!
