Overview

Let’s enjoy the Nikko World Heritage. Nikko stands for one of the spiritual centers of Japanese society. The most significant place in Nikko is Toshogu. I will explain about background stories. By learning these stories, you will get deep knowledge about Japanese culture. At Tamozawa Imperial Villa, you can enjoy a beautiful cherry blossom in April and a beautiful leaf coloring in November.

What to Expect

In Arpil, at Tamozawa Imperial Villa, you will see a beautiful cherry blossom tree from the window. In November, you can enjoy a beautiful leaf coloring in the World Heritage area. Without the historical and artistic knowledge, you cannot enjoy or learn anything from Nikko Toshogu and Nin-no ji.
I will explain (1) Tokugawa’s Political strategy (2) Shinto syncretism (3) difference of Buddhism statues (4) 17C-18C Japanese art schools (5) Yin Yan thought, (6)12 Chinese zodiac, etc.
If you are really interested in arts or architecture, let’s discuss why BRUNO TAUT, a German famous architect in 20 C, criticized Nikko’s elaborated architecture saying that "Japan's architectural arts could not rise higher than Katsura Rikyu, nor sink lower than Nikko".

Let’s enjoy wonderful nature and history together in Nikko.

“ A Perfect Day ”

Mari was absolutely terrific. She helped me set up our tour and was so patient so that we saw everything that we wanted to see plus she told us the history about the things we were interested in as well as local history. On top of this she had information sheets, took us to a really unique restaurant that tourists would not get to see, came right to our hotel and led us through the subway maze and went at a pace that we could cope with. She also had a great sense of humour. On top of these excellent qualities she spoke excellent English which was a great blessing for our group as this was not always the case. I would recommend Mari to anyone.

Mari:

Thank you very much for your wonderful review. I also enjoyed to guide your warm-hearted group. I was impressed that all of your members were enthusiastic to learn new things as this was not always the case. As all members get used to act as a group, it was easy for me to guide even though six people. Please convey my warmest regards to the rest of the members. Please stay young and take care.

“ Sensoji Temple, Tsukiji Market, Yanaka, Tokyo Dome ”

Mari was fantastic and we had a great day. We are a family of four with two sons aged 21 and 16. She made a real effort to include them at every opportunity which we really appreciated. She explained information in a clear simple way at Sensoji and organised a great lunch at the Tsukiji Markets. The highlight for me was walking around Yanaka where we visited the Nezu Shrine, which had an amazing azalea display, and wandered around the backstreets of an older part of Tokyo. Finally she took us to Tokyo Dome so my sons could ride the roller coaster. All in all it was great and I would highly recommend her as a guide.

Mari:

Thank you very much for your wonderful review. I’m glad you enjoyed my tour. We are lucky to see such a gorgeous Azealia display in Nazu-shrine. I was impressed that your family is so close. Both of your sons are very good gentlemen and they have promising futures. Thank you again and please take care.

“ Great Tour of Nikko ”

My wife and I joined Mari for a tour of Nikko. Nikko was beautiful and it was nice to get out of Tokyo for the day. Mari picked us up at our hotel and showed us how to navigate the train system to get us to Nikko. We had a very enjoyable day with Mari.

Mari:

Thank you very much for your kindest review. I still remember a nice talk with you about Shogun. I hope you will have unforgetable experiences and beautiful memories while you are travelling in Japan. Please send my warmest regards to Helen. Please take care.

“ Fabulous Mother/Daughter Trip with Mari! ”

My mother and I were fortunate enough to be able to tour with Mari for two days during our visit to Tokyo this month. From the time we booked Mari to the end of our tours, we couldn't have asked for a better guide for the city. Mari was a fantastic guide who was extremely organized and thoughtful and even sent us materials about visiting Japan in advance of our trip. She was very attentive and made sure that her pace and modes of transportation were comfortable for my mother which I really appreciated. Day 1 of our visit in Tokyo was extremely rainy, however this did not prevent Mari from ensuring that we were able to see several exciting sites on our schedule including the east gardens of the Imperial Palace. We also were able to get out of the rain and experience a delicious soba and... read more

Our 1 day tour in Nikko with Mari is a great one. She knows a lot about the history of the interesting spots in that beautiful place and even tell a story. She sees to it that her guest will not be bored while the tour is going on. Mari is very accomodating and even help us on how to top up and refund our Pasmo card. Job well done and.God bless.
