Overview

Let’s enjoy Nikko World Heritage. Nikko stands for one of the spiritual centers of Japanese society. The most significant place in Nikko is Toshogu. I will explain about back-ground stories. By learning these stories, you will get deep knowledge about Japanese culture. In November, you can enjoy a beautiful leaf coloring in World Heritage area.

What to Expect

In November, you can enjoy a beautiful leaf coloring in World Heritage area.
Without the historical and artistic knowledge, you cannot enjoy or learn anything from Nikko Toshogu and Nin-no ji.
I will explain (1) Tokugawa’s Political strategy (2) Shinto syncretism (3) difference of Buddhism statues (4) 17C-18C Japanese art schools (5) Yin Yan thought, (6)12 Chinese zodiac, etc.
If you are really interested in arts or architecture, let’s discuss why BRUNO TAUT, a German famous architect in 20 C, criticized Nikko’s elaborated architecture saying that "Japan's architectural arts could not rise higher than Katsura Rikyu, nor sink lower than Nikko".

Let’s enjoy wonderful nature and history together in Nikko.

“ Fantastic guide! ”

Mari was amazing! She was patient and caring, with a sense of humor and wonderful flexibility. She did everything possible to meet (and exceed) our needs. Plus, she went above and beyond in so many ways: helping us get JR tickets and securing our reservations on Shinkansen, setting us up on Passmo, giving us an origami lesson, and so much more.

Mari:

Thank you very much for such a wonderful review. So happy to hear you enjoyed my tour. Pat, you are a great travel planner and the first customer who asked about Bunraku. After talking to you, I understood why. Because you are a theater commentator in San Diego. I had a lovely and sophisticated time with you and John to talk about many things, such as Japanese history, modern architecture. wedding customs and religions in Japanese, etc. I hope you will enjoy traveling the rest of your journey, Kyoto, Hiroshima, and Osaka. Please make a travel plan to come back Tokyo again. Warmest regards. Mari

“ Book with Mari, you won't regret it ”

There is a reason why Mari has high reviews. I booked a tour with her and she was very accommodating, prompt and knowledgeable about the area. She truly made my stay in Japan a great one and I would highly recommend her to anyone else wanting to tour Japan. She even brought a cooling neck wrap because it was hot the day of our tour. She really puts her guest first and enjoys what she does and it shows.

Mari:

Thank you very much for your wonderful review. Even though your flight was delayed, I’m glad you enjoyed in Narita very much. It was a good idea to rent a Kimono. You looked so beautiful like a Kimono model. I have already uploaded your pictures in my photo gallery and Narita tour websites. It would be appreciated if you could plan to stay in Tokyo for a few days for your next visit and schedule to visit my KeyForce Toastmasters club, 1st and 3rd Tuesdays from 7PM. Looking forward to guiding you again. Thank you again and take care.

“ 4 hour tour. ”

Mari was very knowledgable and had prepared herself for the tour. She spoke excellent English and explained the history and culture of places we visited. She went out of her way to accomodate requests at the last minute. She was warm and very friendly. I would highly recommend Mari.

Mari:

Dear Stella, Thank you very much for your wonderful review. I had such a great time with you even though it was a hot day. You are a cheerful and well-educated person who are interested in Japanese culture, customs and behaviors. I still remember that you were surprised that the large number of Japanese have Christian wedding ceremony at church even they are not baptized. While enjoying the rest of your journey, I hope you will find interesting Japanese customs and behaviors which help your perspective widen. For our memory, I uploaded our picture at Tea ceremony in my Triplelights website after my video. I hope you will come back to Tokyo again. I am looking forward to it. Thank you again and please take good care of yourselves.

“ Very engaging and knowledgeable overview of Tokyo ”

I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Mari and TripleLights. The online experience with TripleLights was well-designed and helped me to choose a great tour guide. Mari contacted me immediately to discuss my interests and to design a customized one-day overview tour of Tokyo. She stayed in touch with me during the week prior to my tour and even left a personal note at my hotel to confirm my arrival, which was delayed because of a Typhoon. The tour that Mari designed for me exceeded my expectations--she was knowledgeable and provided lots of nice details throughout the day. I highly recommend Mari as a tour guide if you are interested in the arts and culture of Tokyo!

Mari:

Dear Andrea, Thank you very much for your wonderful review. I enjoyed with you very much. You are a smart, intelligent and friendly person. Furthermore, you are really a lucky person. On the tour day, we were able to enjoy going around Tokyo comfortably at a temperature less than 30C because the typhoon had passed. Also, you were lucky to see a wedding procession of a bride and a bridegroom with beautiful Japanese Kimono at Meiji Shrine. I’ll be waiting for you to come back to Tokyo again. I would like to guide you to enjoy different parts of Tokyo. Thank you again.

“ Well prepared, resourceful, delightful guide ”

It was clear before we got to Tokyo that Mari took her work seriously and was determined to provide us with the type of tour we desired. Mari showed great versatility on subjects and an ability to quickly adapt to changing circumstances. She is fun to be with and did a great job getting us interacting with shopkeepers. Mari quickly picked up from conversations that we needed to buy train tickets to Kyoto and to use an ATM. Before our tour ended she made sure those tasks were completed. She also was great about instructing us on subway use and cultural rules. We highly recommend Mari!!

Mari:

Dear Kathy, Thank you very much for your wonderful review. It was my pleasure to guide you in Tokyo. Both of you are friendly, kind and intelligent. I enjoyed our conversation about politics. I can imagine you will have a good time and discovering beautiful things with your different eyes in Mie and Kyoto. Please take care. Thank you again.
