Tour will start in the early morning from your hotel in Tokyo. We will take Shinkansen train to a a local district in Niigata prefecture where we spend a half day tasing various sake, soy source and then Kaiseki dishes for lunch. Will try to match sake with our lunch just like we do for wine After the sake brewery tour, will be able to come back to your hotel in Tokyo in the evening.
Feel free to personalize this offer with Takano.
Walking through old traditional street in Niigata prefecture where the brewing of "miso" "soy sauce" "sake" has been carried out for centuries.
Can taste typical Japanese fermentation products and enjoy Mini-Kaiseki dishes for lunch.
You can feel what it is like to live in a rural area on the Sea of Japan side, which is completely different from big cities on the Pacific Ocean side.
Can watch and walk through the brewing process of top-quality Japanese sake from fermenting to bottling.
guide fee, hotel pick-up in Shinjuku area
・transportation fee (you and guide) --- If you have JR pass, then round trip transportation cost from Tokyo to Niigata prefecture on JR Shinakansen for you is nill. However, JPY 18,000 for a non JR Pass holder including guide is required.
・lunch --- depending on your preference, any type of lunch can be arranged. My recommendation is to go for mini traditional multi-course Kaiseki lunch which costs JPY3,000 per head.
・wine and soy source tastings on the breweries are free of charge.
Advance reservation is recommended to join sake brewery factory tour
Born and raised in Niigata prefecture, visit my mother and sister who live in Niigata city every month from Tokyo. Niigata has lots of attractions for tourists, including Yahiko Shrine/suspension cable car ride to the top of Mt. Yahiko, Northern Culture Museum where you can see the richest farmer's residence and garden, sake breweries with free sake tasting, castle towns like Shibata city or Murakami city, winter ski resorts with four meters of snow, delicious local sea food from Sea of Japan or from Sado Island/ fruits and brown edamame. It takes only two hours by Shinkansen train to reach Niigata from Tokyo.
Niigata prefecture and Niigata city each has a population of 2.3 Million and 0.8 Million, good sizes but much smaller than Tokyo, the biggest city area in the world. By experiencing both Tokyo on the Pacific Ocean side and Niigata on the Sea of Japan side, you can taste both modern gigantic city life/culture and traditional city/rural life/culture in Japan.
In addition to Greater Tokyo Area where I live, I will be happy to be your guide in any cities/areas on the Sea of Japan side as well.
My tour destinations outside Greater Tokyo area include Niigata-city, Nagaoka -city, Itoigawa-city, Sado island, Nagano city, Snow Resorts in Niigata and Nagano mountain areas, Yamagata city, Tsuruoka city, Sakata city, Kanazawa city, Oono city, Echizen city, Tsuruga city, Fukui city, Gokayama and Shirakawago which are World Heritage sites famous for Gassho-zukuri and Kyoto/Nara.
If you have JR Passes, Shinkansen cost will be minimum. If you do not, it will cost 17,000 yen to purchase Shinkansen round trip ticket per person.

Yoshi-san was a great guide for our 1/2-day Tokyo highlights tour. He is very accommodating, personable and extremely knowledgeable. We had a great experience and would highly recommend.
It has been a pleasure walking with Meg-san and her handsome husband from Maryland/DC. Please re-visit Tokyo next year to see some Olympic games.
Takano helped us design a wonderful day trip to Nikko. He was very organized and crafted a perfect schedule to include the sights which most interested our family. His attention to every detail made our excursion flow effortlessly. I highly recommend this knowledgable and friendly guide!
It is good to travel with a family from Colorado, who refreshed my memory of Rocky mountains. Thanks to extensive research effort by Jeannie san, we were able to cover strawberry farm and Kegon waterfall in addition to World Heritage sites in one day.
Takano was our Tokyo guide for 1 day. We like to use a private guide to make sure we see the "must see" sites efficiently and to help us get oriented in Tokyo. Takano was perfect for all of this for many reasons. He oriented us in the city and helped us get familiar with the intimidating but incredibly efficient subway and train system. He gave us good suggestions for our other days touring Tokyo and environs solo. He understood our touring style and adapted to it. We like to cover alot of ground in one day without getting caught up in the minutia of historical details (until we chose to return on other days). We did just that! Bravo Takano !
You must have safely returned to Canada by now. I trust you have had a very good and adventurous time using complicated public transportation system not only in Tokyo but other part of Japan as well.
Takano san was very friendly, chatty and helpful. He was well prepared, very punctual and insightful. And thanks for the ice cream treat Takano san😀. Definitely recommend his service.
It has been a pleasure traveling and walking with two beautiful healthy ladies to Narabi Jizo, Toshogu Shrine and Tamozawa Villa. Please come back to Japan to visit winter resorts in Niigata Prefecture during snow season.
From the first moment of contact via messaging to the day of the tour Yoshi Takano was extremely helpful. He provided choices for the tour and helped guide me through the rail ticket process online. The day of the tour he meet me at the station and walked me through the tour and verified I was ok with the morning layout. As we toured he kept me informed on the history of the areas we visited and what each area meant to Japanese culture. When we ran into one part of the tour not being available, he was very quick to find another destination for us. As I was only able to take a four hour tour due to my schedule I was concerned I would not experience true Tokyo, but by the end of the four hours Yoshi was able to provide a taste of Tokyo that will remain with me forever! We also experience a n... read more
It is good to hear from you, Troy san. You must have already returned to Canada by now finishing all your business meetings and other busy schedules here. It has been a real pleasure to walk together in Tokyo and cover a lot of topics and areas in just four hours. Next time, please being your family members with you and spend a little bit more time in Japan. Yoshi
