Overview

-Horyu-ji Temple was founded by Prince Shotoku in 607(Asuka period).
-The location is about 16 km(10 miles) southwest of Nara city
-The temple structures are the oldest wooden buildings in the world.
-The temple was the first place in Japan to be designated as UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site.
-It would take three hours minimum to see the major areas of the temple.

What to Expect

-Horyu-ji Temple contains about 2,300 important cultural and historical structures and articles including nearly 190 items of Natuinal Treasures or Important
Cultural Propaerties. It is miracle to have these well reserved for such long period.
-Among these buildings, statues, and articles, we can see the effect of Western cultures such as Greece, China, India, and korea, which have been transferred
through the Silk Road.
-This cultural transfer can be seen at Fujinoki Kofun tumulus also in the harness and horse fittings.
-Prince Shotoku built the Horyu-ji Temple in order to inroduce and expand Buddism in Japan, and he is called as "Father of Japanese Buddhism".
-The spirit of Prince Shotoku can be seen through the temple, and especially in the first Japanese constitution called the 17-Article Constitution.
-The key point of his spirit is "WA", which means harmony in life, and world.

“ Tour of Kyoto ”

Makoto promised to take us to the 3 most popular sites in Kyoto. We didn't realise how busy they would be, but he led the 5 of us round efficiently and although they were some distance apart kept us on schedule. He was meticulously prepared, with a printed itinerary with map for us all, together with a potted history of the religious eras and even a bit of helpful Japanese language. He was very knowledgeable and his English was terrific.

MAKOTO:

Dear Lindy, thank you so much for your nice comments. I am so glad that you have enjoyed the tour. Before the tour, I was a bit concerne about your daughter who is pregnant, but she did fine job to walk through. I am sure that she will have a nice baby. Thanks again for you choosing me of your guide. MAKOTO

“ Personalized and detail oriented ”

Makoto was an absolute joy. He met us right at the train platform as we arrived at Kyoto from Tokyo. Makoto’s knowledge of Japan will astound you - right from its history to the present. My 5 year old is a big fan of him after he bought her a cute return gift! Please don’t look further than Makoto for professional yet personal experience to Kyoto!

“ Kyoto highlights ”

Our Kyoto day trip with Mr. Makoto was a down to earth experience, which was a pleasant surprise. In the past we had scheduled tour bus -type tours and in this case, Mr. Makati took us on local trains and buses to get to different destinations. We felt like we “blended in” with the locals! That’s a true cultural experience!

MAKOTO:

Dear Winnie, Thanks for your nice and prompt review comments. I am so glad that you have enjoyed the tour even though it was hot and humid yesterday. Please enjoy the stay in Kyoto and have a nice trip back to the U.S. Thanks again for yoir choosing me of yoir guide. MAKOTO

“ Hepful, knowledgeable and well informed ”

We had a great day with Makoto. He helped us with our JR cards and understanding the local transport system in Kyoto. He was knowledgeable about each site we visited and Kyoto’s geography and history and contemporary life. Even though we had s timetsble which he had prepared well for us, he still gave us space to spend extra time in some places snd sdjudting the itinerary time. He was flexible and friendly and pleasant to spend time with. I would highly recommend him.

MAKOTO:

Dear Patricia Thanks for your nice comments. I am so glad that you have enjoyed the tour. I also enjoyed very much being with you, and your sense of humour. Thanks again for your choosing me of your guide. MAKOTO

“ Great Day in Nara! ”

My family of four met Makoto at the train station, and we started our day in Nara. He took us to all the must see spots, explained some of the history, and we had an enjoyable day. Makoto was very helpful with which train to take, and my adult children really enjoyed the origami at the end of our day. Thank you Makoto!
