What to Expect

Nara was the Imperial capital of Japan between 710 and 784 A.D. The city has many places of historical interest including Nara Park, Todaiji temple, Kasuga shrine, and Kofukuji Temple.

The Great Buddha Hall, the main hall of the Todaiji Temple, is one of the largest wooden structures in the world and the seated figure inside is the world's largest bronze image of Buddha.

Guess how high the right hand of the gread image of Buddha is ?
Guess how many snail-shaped hairs Buddha has ?

Kasuga Taisha Shrine is the largest Shinto shrine in Nara. This shrine is famous for its 2,000 stone lanterns and its 1,000 bronze lanterns which stand on both sides of the approach to the shrine. The lanterns are lit twice a year on the night of the Setsubun Festival and August 15.

Naramachi is an area which flourished as a prosperous town with many businesses and shops including ink production, linen textile, sake brewing and the like. The area still retains the nostalgic scenery of people's lives in the 19th century, especially in the narrow lanes winding around the area. Nara Craft Museum has a wide range of traditional Nara crafts such as itto-bori (wood carving), Akahada-yaki (ceramics), calligraphy brushes and inks.
You can enjoy Japanese foods such as kaiten-zushi (converyor belt sushi restaurant), eel and Japanese sweets for lunch.

In Nara Park, there are about 1,200 tame deer. Visitors can feed the deer with crackers sold at stalls in the park. They are believed to be divine messengers of Kasuga Shrine. The deer love the crackers so don't be surprised if you get surrounded by them!

Kofukuji Temple, which in 2010 celebrated the 1,300th anniversary of its founding, is famous for the Five Story Pagoda, the Nan-endo (Southern Octagonal Hall)and the statue of Ashura. The beautiful five-story pagoda is about 50 meters in height, the second highest pagoda in Japan.

By the way, have you ever heard of the statue of Ashura in the Kofkuji National Treasure Museum ?
Ashura is one of the most famous statues in Japan, especially very popular among women. Visitors will be able to see Ashura on open display, not behind a glass case.

Why don't you come see the Great image of Buddha, the tame deer and the statue of Ashura ?

Hello, I'm HIDEo YOSHIda. Please call me HIDEYOSHI, the same name as the famous shogun who built the Osaka Castle in 1585.

I was born in Kobe and worked in Osaka for nearly 40 years. I would like to introduce the Kansai region to you ,including Kobe, Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, and Wakayama.

Kobe is one of the two largest ports in Japan, along with Yokohama. After the opening of the Port of Kobe in 1868, foreigners built their residences on the hillside of the Kitano-cho area, overlooking the ocean. Many of the foreign residences are now open to the public as museums, including the Weathercock House, with it's symbol weathercock on the triangle-shaped roof.
In Meriken Park, the red Port Tower (the city's landmark), creates a beautiful contrast against the white Kobe Marine Museum. The museum's design was inspired by the waves and sailing ships.

When you have a chance to visit Osaka, please join my tour. I'm sure you'll enjoy the interesting and historical, scenic spots. For example, Shin-Sekai is a downtown area with a strange mix of nostalgic atmosphere and contemporary energy. You can try local foods (kushikatsu, sushi, tempura) at a reasonable price. Billiken (a famous statue of the spirit of luck) will be waiting for you!!. Dotombori is a popular street with a lot of flashy signboards. Osaka is widely known as a "Kuidaore-no-machi", or literally "drinking and eating luxuriously to death." Osaka Castle was built by Toyotomi HIDEYOSHI in 1585. Oh, it's my residence, isn't it !

These days "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter" area in USJ, or Universal Studios Japan, is also attracting more and more people.

I'll be looking forward to seeing you !! read more

“ Hideo a wonderful guide! ”

Our Osaka trip with Hideo was awesome! He was very knowledgable and interesting. He worked with us to visit the sights we wanted, and also included some of his own, which made it great. He recommended a really excellent place for lunch as well. I will be recommending him to family and friends who plan a trip to Japan.

“ Great tour ”

Hideo met us at our hotel on time. He sent a message when he arrived. We were in Kyoto and the tour was in Osaka. Hideo found the shorted routes to Osaka. He lives there so he showed us the best spots to match our suggestions. We went there for food and shopping, and he showed us the best spots. Highly recommend.
