Nara was an ancient capital of Japan just for 80 years in the 8th century.
But it played an important role in Japanese culture a lot.
Daibutsuden housing a large statue of Buddha is the world oldest wooden structure.
Mr Takehiko aka Zumi-San is an excellent guide. We had arrived in Kyoto to spend our first night at an Airbnb place that was freezing and my whole family was miserable. When Zumi-san arrived to take us on our tour and we lugged all our bags pleading him to take us to another place to check in, he was so very kind and said we could just bring all the luggage throughout the tour as there was ample space in his van. He was patient with my son who was sulking, patient with us when we stopped for photos, offered to take our photo for us at the top sights and explained about the history and culture of Kyoto. He also rushed us to Kiyomizu dera to try and catch an important annual event where the high priest would announce the Kanji character for the year that was. At the end of the tour, he dropped us off at the New Hankyu hotel where he assured us would be positively different from our first lodging. All in all, he made us feel a lot better by the end of the day and we are considering seeing him again for a tour of Osaka next week. Domo arigato gozaimasu, Zumi-san!
Our family usually has a very busy schedule when we travel. Also, we have 4 children including a toddler. Takehiko, or Zumi which he wants to be called, was very helpful and pleasant. Our family had a great and comfortable time.
Our Travel with Takehiko was so enjoyable. From pick up at our hotel to the sacred mountain of Koyasan to our departure at Shin Osaka station our expert travel guide was pleasant, flexible and accommodating. We even enjoyed a rice cake throwing ceremony as Monks and Koyasan residents thanked their local Gods & Goddess who protect the land and bring a good harvest. You won't regret spending a terrific day with this expert guide.
Zumi-san, that's how we address him, was very helpful and he tried to cater to what we need in our tour.
