I will take you to an indigo-dyeing studio in Yamatokoriyama city and help to experience it.
After that you will visit Yakushiji Temple.

What to Expect

Ai-zome, or indigo dyeing used to be very familiar with ordinary Japanese people, especially in Edo Period(16C to 19C). The beauty of the color is highly valued as "Japan Blue". Now it is well-known as the logo of "Tokyo Olympics in 2020". You will try dyeing with the handkerchief and the bandanna,etc.. "Konya", the studio, is located in Yamatokoriyama city, a castle town, and you will touch the atmosphere of the old merchant townscape around there.
Yakushiji-Temple(710) is one of the world heritage site"Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara". The principal image is Healing Buddha, or doctor Buddha. You will also see Sun and Moon Bodhisattva,or day and night attendant nurses. They always welcome you with great mercy.

“ 100% worth the money ”

We've never hired a guide before, but thought this would be a good choice since we don't speak a word of Japanese and wanted to experience some local culture. Michiko was the perfect guide for us. Not only was she knowledgable about the area, but Michiko was also able to track down some things that I wanted to do that would not have been available to me, if I had looked for them on my own. First, she connected me with a fabulous old farmhouse stay in Nara Prefecture (with outstanding breakfast and dinner included) before she was even hired. And then she took us for a natural dying experience where we got to make and keep our own scarves. Afterwards, she introduced us to a young farming family where we enjoyed a delicious lunch and walk through terraced rice fields. It was a memorable exper... read more

Thank you for your wonderful review. I'm glad the tour left deep impression on you. Although we didn't visit so called famous tourist spots, we had another great time meeting local people and experiencing the traditional Japanese culture in the countryside. The tour with your family expanded my horizon, too! Looking forward to seeing you all soon!

“ A Walk in the History of Kyoto ”

Michiko guided us in a brief walk through the rich and colorful history of this wonderful old capital. She made very efficient use of the one day to cover a few key locations showcasing both the natural environment as well as the man made temples and shrines. She is very friendly, thoughtful and knowledgeable and we enjoyed the day with her enormously.

Thank you for giving me such a nice review. It was my great honor to be your guide and I was impressed that you two had excellent senses of beauty and insights on Japanese culture. I hope you will come back again to see more !

“ We Will Return to Nara ”

We had a great time in the beautiful city of Nara in large part due to Michiko. Our time in Nara was limited to 5 hours but we saw a lot and it was enough of a look to know we want to return soon. Michiko was a delightful guide and we enjoyed our time with her. She started the day by giving us cute wooden bus passes that we used several times during our visit. Our first stop was a visit to Kofukuji and the interesting Kofukuji National Treasure Museum which helped get us into the right mindset for the day. Michiko guided us expertly through this wonderful museum. She was full of information and seemed to instinctively know where we wanted to linger and where we could move on. She took us through and around the temple grounds to give us different perspectives of the property and build... read more
