We will visit Nara Park, where historic monuments and nature create calm and peaceful atmosphere. You'll see wild deer roaming hear and there. Walking in Nara-machi district will give us a chance to see an old merchants' townscape.

What to Expect

Nara was an ancient capital of Japan(710~794), and the terminal destination of Silk Road, a trading road connecting the West and the East. Influenced by international culture, a great number of treasures, including historical structures, Buddhist statues and artifacts, miraculously remain here.

Especially, the quality of Buddhist statues is marvelous! For example, Nio-zo, A pair of statues of Guardian Deities in Todaiji temple has a lot in common with Statue of David by Michelangelo. I will guide you to see such world-class masterpieces.

Furthermore, I will take you to Nara-machi, an old merchants' town. We will drop by shops of local special products, such as hemp cloth, tea, Indian ink stick, sake(rice wine).

“ A Walk in the History of Kyoto ”

Michiko guided us in a brief walk through the rich and colorful history of this wonderful old capital. She made very efficient use of the one day to cover a few key locations showcasing both the natural environment as well as the man made temples and shrines. She is very friendly, thoughtful and knowledgeable and we enjoyed the day with her enormously.

Thank you for giving me such a nice review. It was my great honor to be your guide and I was impressed that you two had excellent senses of beauty and insights on Japanese culture. I hope you will come back again to see more !

“ We Will Return to Nara ”

We had a great time in the beautiful city of Nara in large part due to Michiko. Our time in Nara was limited to 5 hours but we saw a lot and it was enough of a look to know we want to return soon. Michiko was a delightful guide and we enjoyed our time with her. She started the day by giving us cute wooden bus passes that we used several times during our visit. Our first stop was a visit to Kofukuji and the interesting Kofukuji National Treasure Museum which helped get us into the right mindset for the day. Michiko guided us expertly through this wonderful museum. She was full of information and seemed to instinctively know where we wanted to linger and where we could move on. She took us through and around the temple grounds to give us different perspectives of the property and buildings. Michiko made good use of all of our time and even squeezed in an "extra" stop at a hidden linen shop before an early and delicious lunch. Next, we were on to another short bus ride to see more deer and the beautiful Todaiji Temple. The massive Buddha in the main hall is quite a sight and not to be missed! Michiko explained numerous details that added color and to our understanding of what we were seeing. Michiko is quick without rushing, she easily walks backwards while sharing information about the areas we are about to enter and amazingly slips through the crowds of people. She patiently waited as my knees slowed us down a bit at the steps and took us on a less steep way into Kasuga Taisha. Once there, she painted a picture in our minds of the darkness of the area and what it would look like when the lanterns are lit like they are a few times a year. All too soon, it was time to head back to the train station but we felt we had seen and learned a lot. We were back to the station by bus right on time and we didn't have to wait for the train. We even had time to stop to see Fushimi Inari on our way back to Kyoto. It was a great day!

Thank you so much for writing on the tour in details. Your review vividly reminded me of the tour and I'll treasure this. Especially I was glad that you all have great insights and rich imagination to feel and understand the places we visited. I hope your pictures in Nara will stay in your mind forever!

“ Very friendly, knowledge,considerate and accommodating. ”

Taylored tour as we moved from place to place to accommodate my wifes limited walking endurance. Took us to a very nice teahouse at the end of our tour where we shared small talk and relaxed - very nice.1

Thank you for giving me a chance to tour you in Kyoto. I was so impressed that you appreciated each place. I'll never forget your funny jokes and your wife's beautiful song in the teahouse!
