This tour consists of two parts. In the first part, we will visit the Suwa-taisha shrines which is one of the oldest shrines in Japan and the former town of Shimosuwa which flourished during the Edo period by riding power-assisted bicycles. In the second part, we will visit up to 5 sake breweries for sake-tasting in Kamisuwa. You can taste each brewery’s original sake.

What to Expect

The city of Suwa is located 200km north west of Tokyo in Nagano prefecture. The Suwa-taisha shrines have a history of more than 1200 years. The former town of Shimosuwa flourished during the Edo period as the only hot spring located on the Nakasendo highway between Edo(Tokyo) and Kyoto.
Using a power-assisted bicycle, we will pass through Nakasendo and stop at points of interest including shrines, temples and old building structures. Since the bicycle ride is in total 5 km in distance, we will have plenty of time stopping at several places including lunch and you will learn about ancient Japanese history and culture along the way.
During sake-tasting, you will learn interesting facts about sake while enjoying its delicious taste.

Hello! My name is Takeshi. Please call me Tony.

I was born in Tokyo. I worked for Canon for more than 30 years including a 5-year assignment to the U.S. office. Before joining Canon, I received a master's degree in engineering in the United States.

After retiring from the company, I began working as a volunteer guide for foreign visitors in Kamakura and Yokohama.
However, I became fascinated by the beautiful nature of Nagano prefecture and decided to move here to the Yatsugatake Mountains, 1000m above sea level in Nagano last year.
Since then I go out to look at the breathtaking mountains, lakes, and shrines every day. I would like to guide you to these special sites and also share with you the Japanese culture in my guided tours.
I am a Licensed Guide Interpreter in English and a Certified Travel Service Administrator. My hobby is Aikido and I hold the 2nd Dan black belt.
Hope to see you soon.

“ Nagano highlights plus Matsumoto ”

Mr Toni Takeshi is a seasoned guide who is very friendly and resourceful. He brought us around Nagano and to Masumoto and managed to cover the highlights for the day. He even found a very good ramen restaurant Ippudo for my kids who wanted to eat ramen that day. We all enjoyed the tour and the lunch very much. Big Thank you to Mr Takeshi.

“ Excellent guide covering Nagano area ”

Tikeshi was very knowledgeable and made for a very fun day around Nagano. His English is excellent and he was very flexible around my schedule. His insight and conversation made for a great trip. He developed a schedule and then let me stay as long as I needed. He also included an extra sake stop at my request. He was fun and friendly and made my trip great!
