If you are a nature-lover, how about wandering around Aokigahara forest as you like with a local guide? Unique vegetation created by the eruption of Mt. Fuji is worth observing. A 3-hour hike in the serene atmosphere offers you a special experience. Fresh air, singing birds and greenery will make you feel relaxed.

What to Expect

Aokigahara, "the Sea of Trees", stretches over the lava plateau formed by the eruption of Mt. Fuji. Formations of lava and creepy-looking roots spreading over a thin layer of soil have created the mystical and serene atmosphere. The eco system and unusual vegetation of the forest are informed along the way.
The fresh air and greenery spreading through the forest will make you feel relaxed and peaceful!

The following are what you can see and learn during the tour.
You can choose the itinerary or make yours, referring to the list below.

1) Enjoy hiking through the woods
- You might find the traces of the animals on the way.
- Moss-covered lava and creepy-looking roots spreading over a thin layer of soil are amazing.
2) Saiko Bat Cave
- Different types of lava formations can be observed. You may have a chance to see bats hibernating inside.
3) Nenba Hama (North shore of Lake Saiko)
- A view spot with magnificent landscape of Mt. Fuji and the lake
4) Ryugu Lava Cave
- The cave used to be regarded the sacred place by the followers of Mt.Fuji worship.
It'll be a special opportunity for you to learn a different aspect of Mt. Fuji.
5) Narusawa Ice Cave and Fugaku Wind Cave
6) Learn about the history of Mt. Fuji and Aokigahara, and unusual vegetation formed by the lava flow and wildlife in the forest.

You can extend your tour for a visit to "Saiko Iyashi no sato Nenba" - Craft village with thatch-roofed houses, or for a hike to the top of Mt. Sankodai (Elevation : 1,202m) where the breathtaking scenery of Mt. Fuji, Aokigahara and three lakes can be seen if the weather permits.

*Please note that...
・Saiko Bat Cave closes from December through the mid-March in order to protect bats hibernating inside of the cave.
・Hiking up to Mt. Sankodai is available from mid-March through mid-December due to the bad condition of the trails during winter.

・Take a Sightseeing Bus (Green-Line) from Kawaguchiko station to meeting place (Approx. 40-min ride). I can inform you how to get there in advance. However, if you are not farmiliar with the transport network in the rural area, I accompany you from/to Kawaguchiko station. In this case, the extra charge and the bus fare for guide (1,500jpy) are required of you.
・Be well-prepared for a hike.
* Suitable shoes for a hike (Sneakers are preferable.)
  * Rain gear in preparation for rain
  * Warm clothes and jacket (The Aokigahara area is much colder than the other places. Altitude: about 900m)
・Bring snacks and drinks if needed.
・Keep in mind that Mt. Fuji won't be visible depending on the weather condition.
・Highway bus connecting Tokyo and Kawaguchiko is available. (one-way fare:1,750jpy)
* The booking for the round-trip ticket is highly recommended in advance as the evening buses from Kawaguchiko to Tokyo are always busy.
・In case of severe weather condition such as heavy rain and snow, the itinerary may be changed.
  * Saiko Iyashi no sato NENBA is recommendable as the alternative place to visit.

“ Tomomi san is excellent, so happy we had her as our guide ”

The whole experience with Tomomi san is just top notch, from very quick response time to insanely detailed suggestions. She speaks fluent English, extyremely friendly and very considerate. My girl friend and myself had a wonderful time, all thanks to Tomomi san. We went to a very nice trail, had some very good local food and she try her best to accommodate all our requests, to the point it was past the hiring time and she even help us to arrange transportation on days we didn’t hire her. We recommend her with zero hesitation, she will make sure you have a wonderful time around Mount Fuji! Thanks again, Tomomi san!

“ Awesome Forest Adventure ”

Tomomi was a great guide with tons of knowledge about the forest and the caves. She adjusted the tour for our needs perfectly. Her English was great and was a very pleasant guide. She is highly recommended.


A three-hour hike through the forest went by so quickly since the time I shared with you guys was enjoyable and fulfilling. I was very happy to see you having fun with what you discovered in the forest such as a tiny beetle, beautiful mosses and leftovers of squirrels. Mt. “ Exploring mysterious Aokigahara ”

Our trip through Aokigahara was fantastic! We asked her a lot of questions and Tomomi answered all of them. We saw amazing nature and the Saiko Bat cave. She was very friendly and talking to her felt natural and nice. I would highly recommend a tour with her!

“ Amazing trip made even better with Ms. Tomomi as the guide ”

My family and I had a day and half in Kawaguchiko. To maximize the experience, we retained the service of Ms. Tomomi as our guide for a one-day tour. It was a very rewarding experience. Ms. Tomomi was very responsive in the pre-trip correspondences. After knowing the type of activities we were interested in, she put together a proposed plan for the day trip. We toured around Kawaguchiko and Saiko areas -- visited Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Jinja Shrine, checked out Bat Cave, walked through Aokigahara forest, and visited Saiko Iyashi no sato Nemba. Ms. Tomomi was punctual and knowledgeable with very good English.
