Matsushima has been boasting of its beauty since 9th century, and is ranked one of Japan's three most scenic views. A lot of people who visit this place were moved by its beauty and admired it by drawing pictures or composing poems. About 260 islands covered with pine trees are scattered in the bay. You can view from up close on cruise. It's a beautiful and enchanting view. Although Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami hit Matsushima in 2011, the area was protected by the islands and escaped major damage.
There is also the greatest Zen temple Zuiganji in Ohshu area or North Eastern Japan. The paneled door, the fan light, or gorgeous paintings on the sliding doors and the alcove are regarded as perfection of artificial beauty that represents Japanese natural beauty.
By the way, be foodie during the trip and have a fantastic memory with your five sense. After spectacuIar cruising, introduce you a nice seafood restaurant in Shiogama city next to Matsushima. If you don't have seafood, I can introduce, some other good restaurants.
transportation fee(you and guide, ex. sendai-Matsushima train ticket 820yen), lunch, entrance fee(Zuigani temple 700yen, Entsuin temple 300yen, cruise 1500yen)

CHIE was the most amazing woman. After regular contact preceding the trip, she met us at the Sendai station holding a "Dear Nick" sign to escort us on our tour. She helped us immensely in sorting out our train tickets, before taking us on our tour. Throughout, she shared tales and insights we never would have gleaned from our surroundings alone. She found an amazing seaside restaurant, and helped navigate the menu so we each could have something that suited our palate. She even entertained us over dinner with a comedic pantomime performance. CHIE, you are a wonderful woman! We can't thank you enough for the care you took to show us an amazing time! Thank you for your patience with this rowdy bunch of hockey samurais!!!
CHIE is a great guide and provided a 1 day tour of the Matsushima area. Prior to the tour, she communicated back out forth with us regarding our specific needs/wants and she made the whole plannying process very easy. She even went above and beyond the call of duty by helping with a lunch reservation in advance. Thank you for all your help and for such a wonderful tour day! :) Chantal Wagner

Chie was a first-class tour guide with vast experience and knowledge of the area. She planned our tour down to the exact times and was able to fully explain the historical background and significance of each place visited. She even gave little-known information about the surrounding area and good places to eat and things to do. We visited Kanrantei and she talked about the historical background of the teahouse and explained the very sweets we were eating there. At Entsuin temple she gave detailed explanations on the various statues and caves and its significance to the area, as well as helping me take lots of pictures. She explained also how the Tsunami had effected the area. She even introduced me to charcoal ice cream, part of an ice cream shop that has numerous flavors not common outsid... read more

I had a truly wonderful experience in visiting Matsushima by using Tamada-san as a guide. Her knowledge, kindness and humour allows me to enjoy my visit in Matsushima. She brought me to lots of interesting places there (such as Matsushima island cruise, Zuiganji, Kanrantei) and I really learned a lot from them. She is also very flexible and was able to accommodate her itinerary to include other places which I want to visit. We are becoming a good friends and I would certainly use her service again when visiting Sendai or Fukushima area.
I'm honored to guide Alex-san, who has wide knowledge about Japan. We talked, laughed and impressed ourselves. All experiences and memories with Alex are treasures for me.I'm highly motivated to study more about Japan.
