“ Kyoto Highlights ”
We spent our first full day in Kyoto with Kazuhiko for a Kyoto highlight tour. We were staying at an Airbnb in the Higashiyama neighborhood, but we ended up meeting Kazu at a hotel near Kyoto station as it was an easier meeting place. We used public transportation to go to Fushimi Inari Shrine, Arashiyama Bamboo Forest and Monkey Park, Nishiki Market, Gion District (and spotted some geiko and maiko!). We had seven in our group, including our children (ages 5, 8, 10) and my parents. Kazu was very flexible with us as we altered our plans a bit based on everyone's interests, physical ability and the heat (it was 100 degrees). We added the monkey park to the itinerary while we were in Arashiyama, which required about a 20 minute walk up the mountain to the park (my parents stayed in the town and got a drink while we did this). Kazu had planned to take us to Kinkakuji Temple on this day as well, but we elected to skip the temple on this tour because everyone was very hot and tired. The main sights in Kyoto seem to be on the outskirts of the city, so traveling to each of them takes awhile. The shrine and bamboo forest were also very crowded with tourists. Kazu did a great job taking photos of our family at all of the scenic spots. We had a good lunch at a restaurant in Nishiki Market, and also grazed on some food from the vendors in the market. Kazu brought a map for each of us showing the Kyoto highlights, as well as a handout about the geiko traditions. He also shared pictures of his children and grandchildren. We enjoyed speaking with him and learning about Japan and his life. Kazu's English is pretty good, although we had trouble understanding a few words, but we figured it out. Kazu is a VERY fast walker. I appreciate this, but had to ask him to slow down several times for the sake of my aging parents. We did a lot of walking and riding on public transportation on this trip. Thank you Kazu! Arigato!
I appreciate your feedback.
I’m very pleased that your nice family enjoyed their tour.
I had great time as well showing your nice family around Kyoto.
I'm sorry that I had made you walk a lot, and I'm sorry that I walked fast.
Moreover, I'm sorry that I did not use a subway, though you had 1-day
subway pass. Because, there are only 2 subway lines in Kyoto.
I have guided many foreign tourists for several years.
However, that was the first time I had guided guests in a record-braking hottest day, and
that was the first time I had gone to Monkey park 4 times in a month.
Therefore, I could not guide you enough, though I had tried to do my best,
because I was also slight tired, Sorry!!
I sincerely hope this experience was memorable.
Moreover, I sincerely hope your family visit Japan again and if so I would be
glad to guide your nice family again.
