What to Expect

Following a pick-up at your hotel, you will go to Kinkakuji Temple which is called the Golden Pavilion. It's most famous for its beautiful garden complex in Japan.
It's an excellent example of the medieval Japan's garden design.
The harmonies relationship between architecture and landscape were greatly emphasized and celebrated during this period.
After visiting Kinkakuji Temple, I will take you to Ryoanji Temple.
In this temple, there is a typical dry landscape garden which is one of Japanese garden style and consists of stones and sand.
Next, you will go to Ginkakuji Temple.
This temple is called the Silver Pavilion. This temple was built by Ashikaga Yoshimasa who was one of the Shogun of the Muromachi Shogunate. This temple's complex represents the Higashiyama culture which formed current Japanese culture.
After the temple, you will go to Kiyomizu Temple.
Original temple was founded in 798.
In particular, since Kiyomizu Stage stands 13 meters high, you can get a full view of Kyoto city from here.
Moreover, Kiyomizu means "pure water" in Japanese.
It is said that water at the spring in this temple will purify their soul and make their wishes come true.
Stroll through souviner shops, you will have traditional Japanese lunch.
After lunch, you will go to Fushimi Inari Shrine. At this shrine, you can see pair of stone foxes.
Because the tail of a fox resembles the ears of a rice plant, a fox was believed to be the messanger of the god.
Moreover, this shrine was worshipped as the patron of business by merchants and manufacturers.
There are roughly 10,000 torii or sacred gates. Each torii is donated by the believers.
Next, I will guide you Arashiyama area.
In Arashiyama area, there is a beautiful Bamboo garden.
The tour ends here. This tour will be your most memorable tour in cool Japan.

Hello, I’m Kazuhiko Goto. Please call me “Kazu”. I'm a national-licensed tour guide. I have a wife and 4 children.
I was born in Osaka city, although I have lived in many places across Japan, such as Matsue city which is famous for beautiful Lake Shinji and Izumo Great Shrine, Niigata city which is famous for delicious rice and Japanese sake, and Kurume city which is closer to many hot springs and the active volcano, Mt.Aso.
Now, I live in Hikone city which is near Kyoto. This city faces beautiful Lake Biwa, which is the biggest lake in Japan
and the city's main feature is Hikone castle, whose castle keep is a national treasure.
My home town, Osaka city, is one of the largest cities in Japan.
This city has been known as the city of “Kuidaore” which means that people in Osaka ruin themselves by overspending on food.
As the name suggests, there are unique dishes, such as
Tecchiri (globefish boiled in a pot), Kushikatsu (deep-fried skewers of meats or vegetables), Takoyaki (octopus dumplings), and
Okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake with various ingredients).
In Osaka, there are also many famous spots, such as the huge Osaka castle complex, bustling Dotombori pleasure resort area and the Umeda Sky Building whose twin towers have a unique shape
Moreover, Osaka is near the historic cities of Kyoto and Nara and the port city Kobe, which is filled with an air of exoticism.

I have guided many foreign tourists as an English tour guide for 2 years since taking an early retirement.
Why did I aim to obtain this license ?
While working for an electric company, I often went abroad on business trips to the U.S.A., Thailand, Hong Kong and China,
I received a lot of kind support from local people.
Therefore, I have thought I should return the favor and I have been thinking about how to do it.
Fortunately, I have a depth of knowledge of many places across Japan, since I used to live there as mentioned above.
Moreover, I am interested in Japanese history, culture, and geography, and I also like intercultural exchanges.
I decided to become a tour guide for foreign tourists, because
I would like to make them happy.
I think that this is a suitable job for me to return the favor to people.
Now, I take delight in doing this job, and I have found out that I can take advantage of my experience and knowledge .
I believe that you will fully enjoy your tour in Japan with me.

“ Comprehensive Tour of Kyoto ”

We were able to see a lot of sights through Kazuhiko’s tour. He even added a couple of things to the list of sights that he thought we would like. Kazu (which he asked us to call him) gave printouts to each one of us about the history of Japan and the temples/shrines that we visited. Kazu also took us to a nice Soba restaurant that we enjoyed. Kazu took many pictures of us and it was so nice having the whole family in the pictures. He went out of his way to offer and to take these photos. It was a jam-packed day and we were able to see a lot of things due to his fast pace. Kazu is a very nice man. From the very beginning he went out of his way to help us. He sent very helpful information before the tour including information about where we were staying. He is very informative and we learned a lot. Thank you, Kazu. “ Kazuhiko was a very pleasant and helpful guide. ”

Kazuhiko did a lot of preparation work for my fairly specialized objectives, and our email correspondence before our day together was quite productive. He was pleasant company, too, and knew all the transportation connections to reach my two widespread objectives in Nara, Horyu-ji and the Kasugayama Primeval Forest preserve.

“ Temples, Temples, Temples ”

I could not believe that we visited six (6) temples in one day. Very tiring but well worth it. Would suggest that people be ready to do a lot of walking and climbing up and down. We were quite exhausted by the end of the day.

“ Very energetic and kind guide ”

We had a wonderful day with Kazuhiko in Kyoto. We managed to visit quite few places in a half day and Kazuhiko's excellent navigation skills to use local transportation system was extremely useful. He never rushed us around and during the tour provided a lot of interesting information about sights we visited. I would definitely recommend Kazuhiko San if someone is looking for a guide who is friendly, has a good knowledge of Kyoto and values the time, since Kazuhiko can easily combine all three.

“ Osaka tour ”

Kazuhiko was really patient and helpful. He communicated well with me during the booking and before the tour. He tried to cover everything in the tour of Osaka and took our group to the last destination on time.

“ Good knowledge, but very poor English ”

Kazuhiko has a pretty good knowledge of the subject and places we visited. He was trying his best to accommodate our needs, to cover all places planned for the day. He had a lot of prepared material to share with us, chose excellent place to have a lunch. However, his English pronunciation makes it's close to impossible to understand him. It made the whole experience not quite satisfyable..

“ Kyoto tour with Kazuhiko ”

We booked a tour with Kazuhiko as a shore excursion during our port stop in Kobe, and he was excellent! He met us at the Kobe cruise port and went with us by train to Kyoto, where we toured through sights that we specifically requested including the Golden Pavilion and Nishiki Market. He provided lots of information on history and culture, and we loved this full day tour. He was prompt with communication, as well, which we appreciated. We would love to book another tour with him whenever we return.

“ kyoto and Osaka visit ”

When we met Kazuhiko, my friend and I had already spent two weeks traveling in Japan. therefore we did not do the routine tourist attractions offered in Kyoto. I I believe that he was somewhat surprised when we asked to change our requested itinerary, but he graciously accommodated us. He was always punctual , polite and willing to do what we requested. We had some new and different eating experiences . However he struggles with English and at times we found it difficult to communicate with each other.

“ Interesting tour of Kyoto ”

Kazuhiko had some good suggested sites on the tour, struggled with his english, and we spent a lot of the 5 hour tour on public transport. Although we acknowledge getting around Kyoto is not as easy as Tokyo.

“ Osaka Personal Tour - 10 hours! ”

Kazuhiko was extremely professional and we couldn't have asked for a better guide on our day around Osaka. He took us exactly to the places we desired to visit in our custom tour (including all the way to the Kofun burial grounds). We traveled with our 1 year old baby and he was very patient and helped us find all the ways throughout Osaka to take our baby with our stroller.

“ Structured/organized but lacks depth ”

We found Togo to be a very nice gentleman. He was friendly, helpful, very organized. He tried to do his best to answer our questions. We found him to be punctual and helpful but lacking in-depth knowledge on the subject, or at least struggling a little bit with transferring it to us. This may not be an issue for everyone but for us it was. We felt that at time he could not find the right words to express himself. We did like that he provided us with a lot of colorful visuals (maps, time tables) that he printed for us. He was definitely trying his best.

“ Excellent Guide! ”

Mr. Goto was a wonderful guide. Very sweet, knowledgeable, efficient (he can zip everyone on & off trains, which saved us so much time), and flexible. He had planned the day for us in Kyoto, but if we wanted to make any changes it was no problem. We were traveling with two teenage sons. He speaks English very well. It was very hot the day we were with him so he made sure that we had some time inside to cool off. Would definitely recommend him. Thank you to your wife for the origami that you gave us!

“ Excellent Guide! ”

Goto (his preferred name) was a great guide in Kyoto for two days. He was very knowledgeable and when he wasn't sure of any answers he looked them up overnight for the next day. He was flexible and pleasant to be with. His English is 90% but we had fun learning from each other.

“ Day in Kyoto visiting Fushimi Inari Shrine, Arashiyama Forest, Golden Pavillion, Ryoan-Ji Garden & gion ”

We (family 4) spent a great day with Goto in Kyoto in August. We met at Kyoto central station and were off! Goto had planned our time and was really keen to show us the maximum of Kyoto he could fit in the day. In fact due to the high temperatures we couldn't get through the schedule but Goto adjusted so we had a longer lunch at a great belt sushi restaurant that our children loved. Goto was a good company over the day, we enjoyed good conversation and learnt a little Japanese (very little!), and connected. Thanks Goto for your commitment to showing us everything and the great company.

“ Kyoto/Hiroshima/myajima ”

Myself, spouse and 17 year old son had the pleasure of Goto's company and knowledge while spending a few days in the Kyoto region. Goto's knowledge of the area and of the Japanese culture was outstanding and the experience felt more like being guided by a local family member or friend, then that of an agency employee. We were able to see more in a short period of time then we ever could on our own and every expectation was met with flying colors. Goto was prepared, flexible and accommodating throughout and I highly recommend you don't pass up the chance to use his services. Thank you Goto and to your wife as well for the beautiful oragami. “ Awesome Time in Kyoto! ”

We had a wonderful time in Kyoto. Goto was very friendly, personable, accommodating, and patient with us. We had made some last minute changes to the itinerary and Goto was very flexible and adaptive to switching things around. He spoke English very well and is very knowledgeable about the history and culture. He also helped us pick out some great spots for lunch - as we wanted to try restaurants and cuisine that more of the locals would do. We would recommend anyone looking to use Goto as a tour guide in Japan! Thank you, Goto for showing us around Kyoto!! All the best, Jimmy and Peggy

“ Enjoyed our stay! ”

Our daily itinerary was well-organized. Don't be deceived by his looks as he walks surprisingly very fast! We all enjoyed our tour in Kyoto as Mr. Kazuhiko (or Mr. Goto San ) was very friendly, kind and patient with all of us. He even provided us with lists of tourist spots and Japanese phrases. We had no problem communicating with him as he spoke English well. We are grateful for the origami that his wife prepared for each one of us. So glad that we got Mr. Kazuhiko as our tour guide.

“ Very Patient Guide ”

Kazuhiko was very collaborative right from the start. He helped me work on an itinerary that would suit my party of 7 pax (3 kids-11/9/7, 4 adults) and helped arrange a private van at a very reasonable cost. He has a very good grasp of the English language. He was very patient with my group and could easily adjust the timing based on the interest and strength of the participants (my 75 y/o mom was with us). When we were brought back to the hotel, he recommended interesting places around the area for us to check out on our free time. For improvement: it would be more interesting if he could add snippets of info about the area while we are in transit, or Japanese culture in general.

“ Nderful two days. ”

He was great!! Never saw a man go so far out of his way to make our trip go so smoothly. He bought our train tickets for us in advance , due to Golden Week. He took us every where We wanted to go and more. I would recommend him in a minute. I feell so bad I didn't get to say good bye. I was getting the tickets at the hotel. Have a nice trip with your students. Thanks for a wonderful two days. Dawn.

“ What a nice man! ”

We had an excellent day with Kazuhiko Goto. He adapted the 8 hour tour to our requests, substituting Nijo Castle for a temple we had already visited. In all, he got us around to visit quite a number of Kyoto's treasures. The pace and the information was excellent, all delivered with a wonderful smile.

“ Very good guide with lots of knowledge, good English and humor ”

During our stay in Kyoto, Goto san was our guide for 3 days. We have seen a lot of interesting shrines and temples each with its own history. Goto san was able to share the history of the visited location and the Japanese history. Our children (6 and 8) also enjoyed the trips, especially the Nara visit with the deers and the monkey mountain at the edge of Kyoto. We used public transportation where possible and taxis when required to see the most at a reasonable price. We enjoyed his companionship, his expertise, humor, his choice for authentic lunch locations and all combined made our 3 days a memorable trip.

“ a day in Kyoto with Kazuhiro-san ”

I wanted to thank Kazuhiro-san again for a wonderful full day of guiding in Kyoto. We were four friends, arriving with Celebrity cruises in Kobe, and Kazu-san picked us up at the ship to bring us via train to Kyoto, where he had a taxi waiting for us. His guiding was excellent and we saw all the major attractions in Kyoto and even more than we expected. It was a long but rewarding day and we enjoyed Kazu-san's knowledge and his company. I highly recommend his service to other travelers. Thank you again for a wonderful day. Sigrid Harris

“ A very fulfilling 1-day Kyoto Trip ”

Goto-san was very intellectual and had a lot of things to share about Kyoto and the history of Japan, which my father enjoyed very much. Our objective of the trip was to take nice pictures of the cherryblossoms and Goto-san was very knowledgeable about which spots would be good for sakura viewing & for taking pictures . Though we ran a tight schedule, with about 5 places to visit (including kimono wearing which takes about an hour!), Goto-san was very patient and did not rush us for anything. He was also very flexible when we suddenly had a change of plans; offering us different alternatives so that we could meet deadlines (of returning the kimono) and at the same time visit all the places in our check list. Though he may take a while to understand you, his english is rather decent. Overall, we had an enjoyable one-day trip to Kyoto, which didn't feel rushed or jam-packed at all. Thank you Goto-san for your good service and showing us around Kyoto!

“ Kyoto tour ”

We had a wonderful time with Goto-san in Kyoto. His English is very good. He was very helpful in getting our reservations to the kaiseki dinner/maiko show after our tour and he made sure we got to the restaurant on time. He also gave instructions to the restaurant on getting a taxi back to our ryokan afterwards. We had a very busy day and we were able to see so many sights. Goto-san had us going at a quick pace-good thing we are in good shape :) My husband was happy since we didn't spend too much time shopping at all the siuvenir/gift shops that lined the walk ways to the temples/shrines. My only recommendation is to get a prepaid card for mass transit (ioca, suica, pasmo). It would have been easier to pay for our rides that way instead of having to fish out coins to pay. Overall we had a great time with Goto-san and highly recommend his tour of Kyoto. If we visit Kyoto again, I would definitely book a tour with him.

“ Best tour guide we've ever had! ”

Kazuhiko was our tour guide for one day in Kyoto. He did a fantastic job telling us about the Japanese history and traditions while we were visiting several sights in Kyoto. For lunch, he took us to an amazing and really affordable Sushi place. After the extended tour, he even helped us with buying train tickets to our next destination and he gave us origami swans handmade by his lovely wife! (Thank you so much!) Kazuhiko went an extra mile to introduce us to his fascinating country! We would recommend him to anyone visiting Japan! Thanks again for an unforgettable day! :-) Anja & Halim

“ So much to see in Kyoto ”

We really enjoyed our day out in Kyoto with Goto (Kazuhiro). Upon booking the tour Goto stayed in regular email contact, providing personalized suggestions of additional sights to see. The tour is a combination of walking and public transportation which would have been difficult to plan ourselves. Goto has a lot of energy so make sure you can keep up with him! He met us at our hotel in the morning and we finalized the details of the day. He was very flexible and even helped us with booking train tickets to Tokyo. Goto was also very knowledgeable and able to answer any questions we had. One day was not enough as there is so much to see in Kyoto! I would definitely recommend Goto to anyone.

I had 9 hours in Kyoto and wanted to make the most of my time in the area. Kazuhiko layed out a custom itinerary that covered the major sites I wanted to see. During our email exchanges, Kazuhiko was always responsive and when I arrived, he had a great and efficient itinerary mapped out for the day. He started off by meeting me at the train car when I arrived inKyoto, coordinated all of our public transportation from site to site, shared his knowledge of the culture and local sites, and planned a nice lunch stop. We moved efficiently from site to site, but I did not feel rushed. We finished off the day with a refreshing desert and then he escorted me back to Kyoto Station. He also assisted with updating my seat reservation for the bullet train and saw me off at the train platform. Thank you Kazuhiko for sharing your knowledge of the local sites and the Japanese culture. It was a great experience.

We booked a day in Kyoto with Kazuhiko Goto, he was punctual, nice and thoughtful. It was easy to communicate with him via email to let him know what my husband and I would like to see. His English was at times not easy to understand, but sufficient. He was flexible since we made some changes to the itinerary. He was nice enough to accompany us to Osaka since we planned to have dinner there and he was heading there. He was concerned we might be lost, which was nice. Overall, he is a great guide.

We were a large group of cruise passengers (22 people) from the Celebrity Millennium who wanted a private tour of Kyoto but did not want to pay the high price. We worked with Kazuhiko to come up with a plan to visit Kyoto by maximizing the time we had without the high cost. He researched transportation options, bought all the subway, train (bullet train) tickets ahead of time, and pre-ordered a quick lunch to save time. Despite the fact that we got to see more sites and had 2 tour guides (Kazuhiko and his assistant guide Keiko), our cost per person is less than half of price charged by the cruise ship company. We had a memorable time riding the bullet train and visiting Fushimi Irani, Kyomizu Temple, and Kinkakiju Temple (even in the rain). Everybody in group was impressed with and grateful for the services of Kazuhiko and Keiko. He's extremely flexible to accommodate our needs and took care of all the details. We had a very smooth 8-hour trip all around. If you're considering a Kyoto tour that is both affordable and customizable, you simply cannot go wrong with Kazuhiko as your tour guide
