What to Expect

How about a tour off Kyoto? Ohara is wonderful place to visit. You'll be able to visit a beautiful garden covered with moss, see the statue of the Amida-sama (a Buddhist statue), and enjoy the so-called "garden in a frame". You won't be able to enjoy the delicious air if you take a bus tour, so I recommend walking around these sites with me..
These places are a little ways away from Kyoto. It's best if you have a guide to help you get there.

I am a government licensed guide and have been working as a professional guide for over 90groups after obtaining a license. in addition, I have 4years of experience as a volunteer guide before obtaining a professional license, and guided over 100groups. I am good at making tour plans based on your interests because I know my city ( I was born and brought up in Kyoto) in detail. If you are interested in historic places, I will offer a tour for historic places, If it's cultural experiences, then a tour with cultural classes such as a tea ceremony, wagashi ( Japanese confectionery) making, and so on. Why don't you ask me? I will make your time in Kyoto more enjoyable. Kyoto has a lot of sites to offer you and it is difficult for you to decide which to choose among them. I think I will be of great help.

Here are the reviews from the tours I worked as a guide on another occasion.

Tomoko was very thorough in her preparation for our tour, adapting to our programme needs, and extremely knowledgeable of Kyoto, its transport system ensuring speedy transfers between venues and the history and detail of each activity we undertook, which included Zen gardens, temples, tea ceremony, good lunch venue, advice on other sight seeing venues and the Geisha and Gion area. Would strongly recommend her to any1wanting a quality guided tour in Kyoto.

We had a lovely tour today with Tomoko! She's really experienced and knows Kyoto as good as her palm! She explained us everything that we needed to know additionally for the next days and took us to the desired restaurant .. Really helpful and high level of knowledge.

Your knowledge of all the places you took us to was unbelievable and your English was outstanding particularly your translation of the Monk's address at the Temple of the Ringing Crickets, without you we would have missed out on his enlightening message. You really took the time to consider the things that were of interest to us and provided a fantastic itinerary that left nothing out. Both of us felt at great ease in your company and we will remember our day at for many years as the highlight of our trip to Japan. Lunch was a great treat and the Bike tour enabled us to see so much of the area especially the great variety of amazing temples.

Tomoko, once again thank you so much for giving up your time to look after us for the day.

Tomoko was very accommodating of our tour group which had a wheelchair-bound elderly. She was able to explain the history and significance of the temples we visited in good English. She also made it a point to ensure that our top interests were fulfilled during our tour with her, which was great! Last but not least, she was extremely helpful in helping 1of our members retrieve a lost ph1during the trip.

I needed to organize a 4-hour tour in Kyoto within 2days - and Tomoko Yamasho responded immediately, gave helpful tips over the internet and put together a tour tailored to my interests. When we met, she turned out to be a very knowledgeable guide, flexible to my new ideas (I had got10some more advice from friends in the meantime) with excellent English and with a good sense of humour. Thank you, Tomoko Yoshihara.

“ A Pleasant Guide who has a good sense of humour ”

Tomoko has a good command of the English Language and Japanese history. She was accomodating towards our request for the tour and choice of lunch. Due to the great distance between each tourist site in Kyoto, we found that we spent alot of time travelling on the bus/train. Although that is an experience in itself , it took up the bulk of the time. Tomoko took care to assist us at the ticket booths and made sure we were comfortable on the pubic transport. It was easy to talk to her. On hindsight, we should have requested for the tours to be much earlier so that we could hear her explanations without the noise of the crowd drowning her voice and also to take better photos. Thank you Tomoko.

“ Professional and informative tour guides ”

The night Gion tour was the best and very interesting. details of history of temples and Garden areas interesting. Pleasant and very accomodating. Be aware the total cost of tour is higher if guide travels with you anywhere except a walking tour. Our evening tour was a fixed price however we used our JR passes for Nara and had been asked by guide to pay for her transportation. It was a little on the spot as I thought this was included in her tour price her own transportation. in our case it was close to 20.00 U.S. higher we paid her directly as we had to pay for all her transportation not just the local bus we all took while touring outside of our JR passes. She was very very helpful in helping us make reservations back on our bullit train not realizing it was a holiday. Very satisfied. .

“ Beautiful Kyoto with Tomoko ”

Tomoko was the perfect guide for our visit to Kyoto. She met us at the Port in Osaka and we made our way by train to Kyoto. We managed to visit, Inari Fushimi, Golden Temple, Bamboo Forest and Gion in one day. She took us to a fantastic small local restaurant for an authentic Japanese meal, sooo good. Tomoko has so much patience and was very knowledgeable with her information and history. My husband was very impressed, as he has a knee injury and sometimes struggles to get around, Tomoko made the perfect itinerary to suit his mobility, this was much appreciated. We experienced local trains and taxis and everyday life in the community. She even accompanied us back on time to the Terminal Port. We loved our tour with Tomoko and told all our ship friends about our wonderful experience. Thank you Tomoko.

“ A beautiful day in Kyoto ”

Tomoko-san took all the worry and trouble away from what could have been a complicated and stressful day. She organized visits to many different locations and helped with the most convenient way to get from one place to another. Additionally it was very interesting hearing her stories and descriptions of the places we visited.

“ Tour Guide in Kyoto, Osaka and Nara ”

Tomoko was an excellent tour guide. She always has a smile and a wonderful attitude throughout the entire day and some of our days were long. She definitely knows her way around the cities and all the trains, buses, subways etc. You will have a great time and she knows fabulous places to eat the local specialties in each city without breaking the bank. You will be very happy with her guide services.

We were in Kyoto for a short time and wanted to maximize our visit and Tomoko helped us see all the sights on our list. There were 10 in our group which can be challenging but she was extremely patient and flexible particularly when a sudden rainstorm made us change our plans in the middle of they day. When the rain stopped Tomoko once again shifted gears, just for us. We were able to visit 3 stunning shrines/temples and one museum and enjoyed a delicious lunch. I would highly recommend Tomoko as she was knowledgeable and very friendly and her English was great. Thank you Tomoko!

Recently my husband and I toured parts of Arashiyama with the hlp of Tomoko. We visited Daikaku-ji Temple and came away with a greater understanding of the importance of Buddhism in everyday life. Our last stop on the tour was at Nonomiya Shinto Shrine and again with Tomoko's help came away having gained appreciation for the significance of Shintoism . In between we visited the area where Fujiwara no Teika lived when he compiled the anthology "100 Poets 100 Poems." And the house where Basho stayed when he made the journey to Kyoto. Perhaps our requests were abit unusual. Tomoko was very knowledgeable at every stop. And entertained us with interesting stories ans Information. I can recommend Tomoko as a guide without hesitation. She helped make our stay in Kyoto much more intersting and rewarding than it would have been otherwise.

We did two different tours of Kyoto and surrounds with Tomoko. She had adjusted the tours to add things I was wanting to see and made this all work well. Tomoko was very mindful of our group as we were travelling with my older mother and needed to rest/take things slow. What was most impressive was Tomoko's knowledge of Japanese history and she always had lots of interesting information to share on each thing we visited. It really added a lot to the two day trips. I would definitely recommend Tomoko to other visitors.

Tomoko is really great. Very knowledgeable and I was truly satisfied with her service. She also went an extra mile to assist me with my dinner reservation and bringing me to places to get my last minute souvenirs. Thank you Tomoko San. I am truly grateful. I am planning to engage her service again on my next trip to Kyoto. I will definitely recommend her service to my family and friends. Arigatogozaimasu!

We've spent two very good days with Tomoko - at Koya and at Osaka. She has perfect knowledge of these places and is eager to share it with the tourists. The excursions have been perfectly organized, and all that has made the tour highly enjoyable

We greatly enjoyed our 2 tours with Tomoko. She was very helpful in planning the itinerary, spending one day seeing the eastern part of Kyoto and the other day, the western area. She supplied us with great restaurant recommendations and obtained tickets for us to see the Miyako Odori (geisha dance) show. She was flexible with the schedule in order to maximize our viewing of cherry blossoms. She speaks English well and gave us good explanations about places we were visiting. We would definitely recommend having a guide in Kyoto because sites are very spread out requiring buses, subway and rail.

Tomoko was very efficient! She met us at the train station, accompanied us to deposit our luggage at the carrier service to be delivered to our ryokan so we could go ahead and start the tour. Straight to lunch, she brought us to try and make our own yummy Okonomi-yaki - a traditional Kyoto food. She was patient in explaining the history and highlights of the temples, rock garden, bamboo forest and Ginza district that we visited all in half a day. She also explained how we can navigate on our own (which trains, buses to take) the other spots we planned to visit the next day.

Tomoko is an excellent guide and a lovely person. I went to the market first on my own and had a good time. But on her tour I learned, and tasted, and enjoyed so much more! It was so nice to have my questions answered in English. I rarely choose guided tours, but I'm so happy my internet explorations found Tomoko.

We did a combined Kyoto Highlights and Night Tour with Tomoko. It was an absolutely wonderful experience. Tomoko provided valuable background information to the major sights in Kyoto. The Night Tour was very good, providing an insight to the GION area that only a local would know. We were very fortunate to come face to face with a famous geiko, thanks to Tomoko's strategic knowledge of the area. My family and I were thoroughly happy with the tours and highly recommend Tomoko for first - timers to Kyoto.

I booked Tomoko a few months before our Japan tour. From the way she answered ecery email inquiry, I sensed that we would feel comfortable with her. From the exchanges of our emails and good reviews, It was already somehow foreseen that the tour will be carried out successfully with her. True enough she delivered what was expected. Tomoko is also the kind who is patient enough to wait for her client. We were 11 in the group. Since a few of us were in their early 60's, they tend sometimes to slow down in walking. There was also an instance that she took time to look for some of us who failed to follow the group's path and got lost. From this, we saw her patience and sense of resposibility. She went extra mile in her service such as helping us choose our food written in Japanese, she also taught us how to buy train tickets even if beyond her guiding time. With regards to the knowledge on the tourist spots, no questions asked, she's knowledgible, she speaks fluently in English. Very patient. From the above, Tomoko is highly recommendable as a tiur guide in Kyoto and nearby cities. Thank you Tomoko, till we meet again! Sylvia

We had a pleasant tour last time with Tomoko in Kyoto. She arrange our time well, and we managed to visit many places in a short time even when we spent a lot of time taking picture. She had a good knowledge of the history of the places and anything related to. She eagerly accompanied us even until an hour after our tour ended. Very recommended.

Tomoko was outstanding!!!! The best decision we made during our entire trip to Japan was booking Tomoko as our guide. She went well beyond what we expected. She Was very knowledgeable, her English was excellent, and she even took us by bus to our dinner reservations even though it was well out of her way. Can't wait to come back and book her again. TripleLights is a great choice for tours in Kyoto! Private tours are definitely the way to go because you have so much flexibility. If you want to spend extra time at one location, no problem. Hurry through another, okay. Our tour guide, Tomoko, was like a walking encyclopedia! Not only was she an expert in history, but gave us great advice to maximize our short time in Kyoto. Thanks for a wonderful trip!

Tomoko was an excellent tour guide! She was extremely knowledgable and accommodating on the tour, and before we even got to that point helped me with online research so I could narrow down what I wanted to do on my tour. She helped me see the things I wanted to and buy what I needed to take home for my hobbies. I never could have gotten my sewing supplies without her! Or the seaweed they make jello with in Japan! So obviously, she caters to a wide variety of interests and knows the area, people, shops, and sights inside and out. Last, she was very kind and made great conversation along the way - it was a great experience. I cannot recommend her enough!

Tomoko was a lovely tour guide who engaged well across the 3 generations in our family group. She had paced the day appropriately and was very knowledgeable about the sites but was also happy to share local knowledge and customs. She really brought the best out of our 3 teenagers who tried out their limited Japanese and were happy to eat more traditional fare.

Tomoko was the best guide ever!! There were six of us including 3 teenagers and she made our tour interesting and fun. She was very flexible to all of our needs and we would highly recommend her!!

We did the Nara tour with Tomoko. She was very informative and showed us the highlights of Nara. She made it very interesting and on the train there gave us an insight into Japanese culture - particularly Maiko and Geiko. We had a truly lovely day which included feeding the deer and eating traditional Japanese food. She showed us a typical Japanese house used for tea ceremonies which was amazing and the big Buddha was awe inspiring. On the way back because we were so interested in the Geisha she offered to show us the best places in Gion to spot the Maiko. We were a little early but we hung around and saw 5. A truly brilliant day. Thank you Tomoko!

Tomoko was an amazing guide! She showed up 30 minutes early at our hotel and gave us a full day tour of Kyoto that was interesting and fun. She goes out of her way for her clients. Her English is near perfect, and she has many stories to tell. She was by far the best tour guide we had in Japan. Thank you, Tomoko!
