Ladies and Gentlemen from overseas,
Welcome to Kyoto!!
I'm Eko, a nationally licensed guide with 20 years ' experience.
I was born, brought up and have been living near the Nijo Castle in Kyoto except 3 years I studied at UCLA in USA. After I came back to Kyoto, I began this guide business but at the same time I taught English at college. Meanwhile, I established a culture school where you can study all kinds of Japanese culture such as tea ceremony, flower arrangement, kimono-wearing, koto music and taisho-goto music, etc.
Now I retired college and am going to resume this guide business with three reasons: 1) To return favor to the people of the world who were very nice to me. 2) For my own good health-- walking is the best for this purpose. 3) To make a chance for tourists to talk with local Kyoto people in English.
I'd like to show you my home town, "Nijo Castle Town".
This area used to be a kimono producing center where many of the inhabitants engaged in kimono business and the best kimono was made here in Kyoto. Even the Empresses’ kimono was ordered from Kyoto.
Let me show you the Nijo Castle Town”. Detailed information on this tour, look at the Photo Gallery. You’ll know where you’ll be taken.

“ Most wonderful, elegant and kind guide ”

Etsuko was the MOST wonderful guide! She arrived at my hotel and swept me off to go to Inari Fushi and other places, and despite the rain and masses of people we had a truly lovely morning together. If you would like to see a glimpse of Kyoto with somebody who has lived there for a long time, and seen many changes -mixed with the openess of somebody who has travelled to the other side of the world- then she is your perfect guide! She has a huge amount of historical and cultural knowledge to tap into, and is happy to share it with you if you like, or to let you soak up the beauty of a place in peace. We talked about so many different things and I really got a bit more understanding about the Japanese culture and a sense of how society works; which is so important to me as a traveller and possible because her English is so good. Kyoto is so beautiful but understood through the eyes of someone living there, even more fascinating. She went far and beyond the call of duty to see that I was comfortable and made sure I had a bite to eat and got back into the right train to Tokyo too! I will keep in touch with her and wish her every success in her ‘new’ guide career and recommend her most highly. Thank you Etsuko for a memorable day in Kyoto!
