I had been working as an English-speaking taxi driver in Kyoto for about 4 years from March 2012 to May 2016. During that time I guided many visitors from abroad around Kyoto. In June 2016 I decided to quit working as a taxi driver and become a self-employed English tour guide. As I'm a licensed English tour guide and a professional driver, I can guide visitors from abroad around Kyoto, Nara, and other places in my car. 6 passengers maximum. English guiding is 4,000 yen/hour. No extra charge for carfare. As I'm not a taxi driver, I cannot receive any money for carfare. I will take you anywhere you like in my car mainly in the Kansai Region. read more

“ Flexible touring in Kyoto ”

Mitsuyuki was very amenable to making last minute changes to the pick up location and the sites we would see in Kyoto with him after our small group tour guide made some last minute changes to the itinerary. Mitsuyuki having a car made it a lot easier to visit three places in an afternoon of touring.

“ Thorough 1-Day tour around Kyoto ”

Mitsuyuki was such an accommodating tour guide, he arranged a very thorough Kyoto day-tour where he picked us up in his comfortable van. We're a family of 4, with two kids and the kids were very happy with the tour. Mitsuuki has a very pleasing personality and we had a fun travel with his fun facts and conversations. The weather on the day we went wasn't so great but he had umbrellas ready for each of us as well as water for everyone which still made the tour fun. We highly recommend him! :)

“ Enjoyable Day in Kyoto ”

Had a very good tour with Mitsuyuki. He picked us up on time at our cruise ship terminal. He drove very safely. The tour was modified to suit our interests. The highlight of the tour was a wonderful lunch in a traditional Japanese restaurant (not expensive). Mitsuyuki took us to several shrines that we wanted to see - all very beautiful. There were lots of steps to climb. He explained things well as we went along. His English was reasonably good. He walked a bit faster than we were comfortable with (we are seniors).

“ Excellent! ”

Mitsu-san was very accommodating and made sure we all had a wonderful time. We were a family of 5, and we truly enjoyed our 2 days tour of Kyoto and Nara with Mitsu-san. He took us to beautiful places in his comfortable van. We learned about the history and the trivia about the different places we've been. It was a memorable experience for all of us. Would not hesitate to recommend him to friends and other people. Thank you Mitsu-san for your dedication and your patience in showing us around. May more blessings come upon you and your family.

“ A journey to Kyoto ”

Mitsuyuki san picked us up with a very comfortable minivan at the pier in Kobe and drove us to Kyoto. As a former taxi driver in Kyoto he was able to take efficient short cuts in the city which enabled us to see more sights than we would have otherwise been able to do. Because we needed to be back on the ship by 5pm and wished to take the 3pm bullet train from Kyoto to Kobe our touring was fairly limited. However, at each site Mitsuyuki was able to maximize our time with short cuts within the parks. Our guide was a pleasure to be with and had a great sense of humor.

“ Unbelievable! ”

I had to read twice at guide with car under his photo. Too good to be true as I have read only tours using bus/train/foot. But it was true what luck! Mitsuyuku-san is also above all a knowledgeable and patient guide. We were a group of 4 and were seated comfortably in his large car. He even provided bottled water. You can request the type of food you want to eat and can take you there. Thanks again Mitsuyuki-san! We had a wonderful time in Kyoto because of you!!

“ kyoto in one day / mr mitsuyuki ”

my family only had one day in kyoto to see the sights and i could find no tour that could get me to all the major sights in one day. i then found mr mitsuyuki through triple lights. first he is very professional and an excellent english speaker. we started early which he was ok with, and i recommend because we saw a couple of the sights before the crowds. we were able to criss cross kyoto to all the major sights with his knowledge adding color along the way. it was an awesome day. it was also about the same price as taking a tour but much more efficient because of the small size plus mr mitsuyuki has more knowledge than most tour guides and his language skills is more than most tour guides. he has lived in the us so his conversation is quite good, he also lived in kyoto and was a taxi driver so his driving was very good and again save time because he had local knowledge of how to get around. once again major thumbs up for mr mitsuyuki and what a GREAT DAY IN KYOTO! i would highly recommend this trip/tour to anyone, i actually think it was great value. thanks again mr mitsuyuki

“ Top notch!! Efficient, knowledgeable and excellent driver. ”

Mitsuyuki knows Kyoto and can show you all the top sights but is also highly flexible if you have your own separate agenda. He once spent a year in North Carolina and has excellent English. The day before I arrived via bullet train from Tokyo he Emailed asking which car and which seat I was taking and once I arrived and exited the train he was right there! He will take very good care of you.

“ Day trips from Kyoto ”

Mitsuyuki was our tour guide for sites near Kyoto. We used his services for two days (Day 1: Arashiyama, Kinkaku-ji, and Fushimi Inari Shrine; Day 2: Nara). It was great to travel by car to these locations and thus had a lot of flexibility with the tours to add more or less time at different sites. He was knowledgeable of the areas we visited and spoke very good English.

“ Kyoto highlights ”

Mitsu-San was a fantastic guide--I would definitely book him again. He had the utmost patience for my endless questions, photos and my grumpy 12 year old daughter. We changed the itinerary toward the end of the day because she had had enough of the (seemingly) endless temples and shrines that mom was dragging her to. So we popped over to the Toei Movie Park at Mitsu-san's suggestion.

“ Osaka Kyoto Family Holidays ”

Mitsui San is his name that we used over the 3 days we spent time with him. He was like a family to us and he provided the most care and attention for our travels as we have a 84 yo mum who is not agile and not able to walk long distances. He fitted in all our requests on places to visit and provide information on best spots to take the photos and even become our official photographer and our culinary guide. We had a great time as a family because of him and would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone who needs a guide. Thank you Mitsui San from all of us. Melissa, Doreen, Lai, Zoe and mum.

“ A wonderful day tour around Kobe ”

My family and I booked a day tour with Mr.Mitsuyuki early July. I was mainly looking for a tour guide to take us around the attractions of Mt.Rokko and due to some mobility issues, hiring a tour guide with a car was a priority. I found out about Mr.Mitsuyuki and emailed him and he was very helpful from the first email. On the tour day, he was waiting for us on time in front of our hotel in Kobe. He then took us to the cable car station and we took the cable car to the upper station. He picked us up again in the upper station and here was were the actual tour started. Although, I have agreed on the itinerary beforehand with Mr.Mitsuyuki, on the tour day I talked to him about some changes (all within the Mt.Rokko vicinity) and he was very flexible and accommodating. After touring around Mt.Rokko, Mr.Mitsuyuki (as planned) took us to Kobe-Sanda Premium outlets. We did some serious shopping in there and Mr.Mitsuyuki was kind enough to wait for us until we finished (he even helped us with carrying the bags). Overall, I highly recommend booking with Mr.Mitsuyuki as he is very friendly, flexible and easy going. I wished that I had few more days around the Kansai area to book another tour with him. Thanks a lot for the great tour Mr.Mitsuyuki, if we ever find ourselves around the Kansai area again we will absolutely be booking with you.

“ Friendly, Trustful & Reliable ”

Mitsusan picked us up & dropped us back at our hotel in Osaka , which made it very convenient for us. We had taken our teenage grandkids on our trip and so I arranged with Mitsusan on the places we thought they would enjoy in Osaka & Kyoto. Mitsusan was accommodating and we all had a fun day. “ Mr. Mitsuyuki is the best! ”

My children and I were extremely amazed with Mr. Mitsuyuki's professionalism as a tour guide. He was prompt , his vehicle was clean and spacious, his knowledge of the sights in Kyoto was spot on and his calm, pleasing demeanor was commendable. Mr. Mitsuyuki went above and beyond in providing us a wonderful and memorable tour of Kyoto. We were pleased with the time we spent with Mr. Mitsuyuki and would certainly use his services again, and refer to anyone looking for a guide. - Rena, Ken and Katrina Franco of San Francisco, CA, USA

Mitsuyuki was a very good & efficient tour guide. He responds quickly to my queries even before the tour. He helped me plan the itineraries covering almost all of the popular attractions. He is friendly and gives personalized service. Our tour schedule was on time and as specified. I have a back problem and has difficulty walking for long distances. And Mitsuyuki made it conform to my needs. Will definitely recommend him to friends & families who will go to Kyoto in the future.

“ 1 day kyoto tour ”

First time we booked triplelights. We really enjoyed the tour. It was very convenient that he had a car to tour us around kyoto. It was a bit fast phased but I can understand this since the itinerary was packed. We were able to go to all of the places. He's knowledge was very good. I just wished that he can give more background on some sites. I love how he is very friendly with us. Overall he is a very good and accommodating tour guide. I would definitely get and recommend him.

“ Great tour in Kyoto ”

My kids were tired from walking in the past few days. With Mitsu-san taken us around Kyoto, we were able to rest up and enjoyed the destinations. We visited all the sites in the itinerary despite of the local school field trip caused traffic jams in most of the sightseeing places. Mitsu-san is very accommodating. It was a pleasant experience.

“ Kyoto tour with Mitsu-san! ”

We had a great tour with Mitsu-san! We were so tired by that point in our trip and he put up with a lot of neediness and rest stops! We changed our mind about what we wanted to do like twelve times during the day and he was right there to facilitate, making sure we had time to do the things we wanted to. We hiked up to the monkey park in Arashiyama which was not easy, and he just hopped right along like it was a tiny gentle slope. He knows EVERYTHING about all the shrines and temples and a lot of insight about the history and religious elements of Kyoto. Mitsu-san definitely loves being a guide and we felt bad at times when we were in places that didn't require a lot of explaining. He clearly loves the places he tours and loves to share them with people. Having a car was a huge luxury after a few days of walking everywhere! I would definitely recommend Mitsu-san for any tour he offers!

“ Can be better ”

Tours with Triplelights are delightful because you can cater the places to go to and the schedule according to your needs. Mitsu is a nice man. Definitely a plus is his ownership of a vehicle. As I am a PRM, there wasn't any doubt that his tour was the most convenient for me. It can be better though with a little more skills in communicating with his clients. He is a little shy and quiet at times! The tour was good overall but as I said, it could be better.

“ Kyoto Day trip ”

It was a pleasant and enjoyable experience travelling with Mitsu- san in his car. We were very appreciative of the transportation although it was a little difficult to get in and out for the shorter elderly or for an elderly with bad knees. Otherwise - good for family travel. He was knowledgable enough and shared what he knew of the various sites. Also helpful in assisting us with family photos. End of the day - great to be able to be dropped off at the hotel. All the best !

“ Very kind & friendly guide ”

Mitsuyuki-San has been very kind and accommodating from Day 1. We got him to pick us up from Kansai to Kyoto and we did a one day tour with him in Kyoto too. He knows the attractions well and guide us all the way. However, he has a Honda Odyssey, so travel group with more than 5 pax and big luggages will find it hard to fit in. He's one of the most reasonable priced guide in Kyoto, overall very happy with him!

“ Amazing time with Mitsuyuki-San! ”

Mitsuyuki-San was really amazing. Very friendly, patient and a good human. We booked two days with him - one day for Kyoto and the other for Nara. We're travelling with a 3yr old and an infant. He made sure that we are comfortable at every stage of the trip. Always on time, never rushing and was very flexible with our change of plans (due to time constraints). Learned a lot from him about the culture and history of Japan. His English is good. He helped us to take a lot of photos which was highly appreciated. Outside of the places of interest as part of our itinerary, he took effort to find a good Indian restaurant for lunch that was amazing and dropped us on both days at a shopping mall of our interest. Not to forget his spacious car - Very convenient for our travel and it's FREE. He did organise a baby seat for our infant too! He took great care of us during the day and it was a great pleasure to have known him and to have done tour with him. We will highly recommend him for anyone who is planning for a trip around Kyoto & Nara.

“ An amazing day of Japanese history and culture!! ”

We had a wonderful full-day private tour from Mitsuyuki! He was prompt in picking us up from our hotel and was very communicative before to ensure we all agree on the pick-up/drop-off time/location and itinerary! Mitsuyuki was super helpful and flexible in determining the best itinerary based on the time we had together. He is a former taxi driver who knew all the Kyoto streets-priceless. We felt very safe. His car was comfortable and roomy. He explained the history behind various places and pointed out a lot of interesting facts on how things were built. We would highly recommend him for a tour!! Just remember with any tour, you should bring cash to go into the temples/shrines that you chose and also for offering prayers/donations at each! Our itinerary: In Nara, Todai-ji Temple, Kofuku-ji, and Tamukeyama Hachman-gu Shrine - we loved the deers! In Kyoto, Fushimi Inari Taisha, Kiyomizu-dera and the surrounding markets, Imperial family's temple Sennyu-ji, and we were dropped off in Gion. An amazing day, thank you Mitsuyuki!!!

“ Best way to see Kyoto ”

My family and I had a 2-day personalized tour of Kyoto with Mitsuyuki-san during cherry blossom season. As we had young children with us, it was easiest to travel by car but Mitsuyuki-san made the experience even more wonderful by being flexible and allowing us to change items around to better suit the weather or ability of the children. In the end we got to see more of Kyoto than we had previously imagined and even saw some hidden gems which were not previously on our list. Mitsuyuki-san was so polite, efficient and knowledgeable about everything that he really made this the most wonderful experience in Japan. I would have absolutely no hesitation in using Mitsuyuki-san's services in the future or recommending him to others.

“ Mitsuyuki taught us so much! ”

In early December we had the good fortune of spending a full day with Mitsuyuki. We found him to be a warm and personable person, who taught us so much about Kyoto and about the Japanese culture. He met us promptly at our hotel and immediately told us to call him Mitsu-San. For a full eight hours we toured shrines, temples and neighborhoods. While driving between stops, he kept up a running discourse about Japan. For me personally the most interesting part of the day was learning about Mitsu-san's family, which consists of two sons, one daughter, a wife and a mother. Learning about the Kyoto points of interest was great, but for me it was most interesting to learn how people actually live in the Kyoto-Osaka area. I would recommend him to any friends headed to Kyoto.

“ Osaka cruise port to Kyoto ”

Hi Mitsuyuki, My family would like to thank you for a wonderful private tour to Kyoto when we were in port on the Diamond princess. We were able to customize our own tour to include more sites than what the cruise ship offers at over half the cost. Most importantly returned on time to the ship at half the price the cruise ship offers. This was our itinerary: 8:00 Pick you up at Osaka Port 9:30-10:15 Nijo Castle 10:30-11:30 Kinkaku-ji Temple 12:00-12:45 Nishiki Market 13:15-14:15 Kiyomizu-dera Temple 14:45-15:30 Fushimi-inari-taisha Shine 17:00 Drop you off at Osaka Port We paid for the extra hour to be able to see Nijo castle. Mitsuyuki was very polite and courteous. He listed the exact cost for tolls, parking, and entrance fees for our itinerary so there were no hidden surprises. He was even early to pick us up at the exit of the terminal with a sign with our name. We were 6 elderly people and appreciated the ability to be driven to the destination instead of walking to to take the train. Turned out to be a better price for the 6 of us than the private tours from guides who would take you by foot and use public transportation. Thank you for such a memorable experience. Best wishes and good health to you always. Regards, Trang and family

“ Nara and Kyoto ”

Our tour of Nara was very disappointing. Mitzuyki is a very nice man, but he did not seem to have experience or extensive knowledge about the sights of Nara. He had very little information or knowledge to share with us about the history or culture of Japan and the sights we visited. We relied on our guidebook more than we would have wanted to. When we returned to Kyoto from Nara, Mitsuyuki seemed more knowledgable of the city and its sights. We enjoyed our visit to Roanjii Temple tremendously where he was able to provide valuable information. Although we were aware that we would pay for tolls and admission tickets, we were surprised by the amount. The tolls and parking were an additional $50. It might be a good idea to provide this information to your clients in advance.
