What to Expect

Byodo-in Temple enshrines Amida Nyorai Seated Statue ( national treasure ), which is believed to receive a person at death from the Pure Land paradise in the West.
The garden is a Pure Land garden with a pond in front of the Phenix Hall, which Fujiwara Yorimichi, a powerful aristocrat of Heian period ( 794-1185 ), founded as a Jodo sect Buddhism temple in 1052.
Teradaya Inn is an old Japanese style inn, where Sakamoto Ryoma, a very famous and popular Japanese hero just before Meiji Restoration, stayed and met Oryo, his fiancee.
Gekkeikan Sake Museum displays tools and facilities for sake brewery and you can enjoy sake tasting at the end of the short tour in the museum.
Wooden boat ( Jukkoku-bune ) riding along a small river leading to Fushimi Port on the Uji River. You can take a nice picture of Gekkeikan sake brewery and the riverside lined with willow trees.
If you wish after the tour, you can have dinner at a long-standing, popular izakaya restaurant in Fushimi, tasting an excellent sake of Gekkeikan.
