This tour features both hiking and visiting a stunning, rarely visited world heritage site. Hiking in Mt. Hiei, one of the three holy mountains in Japan, will reveal to you the iconic Japanese scenic beauty of mountains and a lake. We take the same route of ancient pilgrimage and hike gently up to Enryaku-ji temple, a world heritage site. Overlooking Lake Biwa, the biggest lake in Japan, we will enjoy glorious sightseeing and come down, according to your preference, on the same or a different route or by Japan’s longest cable car. Time-permitting, we will explore the bottom of the mountain with many quaint temples and shrines. The area is often used for locations for filming. This refreshing hiking tour gives you a chance to imbibe Japan’s authentic verdant beauty and rich history.
We had a great time with Ryoji. His English is very good. He was very interesting and accommodating--we were late arriving from Tokyo and he patiently waited for us. Very interesting to see the city at night--especially the Gion area.
Ryoji-san provided an excellent introduction to the beauty of nighttime Kyoto during the beautiful autumn leave illumination time. Ryoji customized our walk to incorporate highlights of the autumn leaves. When in Kyoto I highly recommend Ryoji to help make your visit very special.
My wife, son (13) and I spent an evening with Ryoji in Kyoto in late October. My goal was to see the off the beaten track Kyoto and really get to know the city through a local. Ryoji met us for an evening tour, took all of our requests in and showed us some great things in Kyoto. What I/my family like the most was a dinner we had together at the end of the tour. We talked about real life in Kyoto/Tokyo/Japan and he gave us a real sense of what his life was like on a day to day level. Exactly what I wanted my 13 son to to understand. Great guy, took care of us, decent English speaker and willing to talk about real things.
Ryoji is a very knowledgable and engaging guide. He was responsive to our requests by selecting the types of places that we wanted to see. He also answered our many questions about Japanese culture. Very enjoyable experience and worth the money
