What to Expect

1. Tenryu-ji temple is a top-ranked among the Five Great Zen Temples of Kyoto which is one of the 17 World Cultual Heritage-listed monuments in Kyoto and famous for strolling-style garden. This temple was originally constructed in 1339 by Ashikaga Takauji who is one of the Shogunate of Muromachi era (1336~1573).
You can see Japanese traditional architecture, paintings, garden and so-on.

2. Bamboo forest is one of the most impressive spots for many tourists coming to Japan. Bamboo is the symbol of vitality because it grow up very quickly. Bamboo crafts is used in the tea ceremony and flower arrangement. After leaving Tenryuji out from one of the gate, the bamboo forest called “Chikurin” come into your eyes immediately. This bamboo forest continues to the end of the road by around 400 meters.
This area used to be the villa of the aristocracy in Heian era (end of 8th centyry ~ end of 12th century) and you can feel subtle and profound world even after 1000 years passed.

By seeing this bridge, you can see various beautiful sceneries according to the change of each seasons. Mt.Arashiyama of west side of the bridge is registered as the place of scenic beauty and natural monument in Japan. You can enjoy cherry blossoms in April, fresh green in summer, graceful autumn leaves in fall and clean white snow landscape in winter.
Current bridge was completed in 1934 with 155meter length and 11meter width. There are so many sceneries of this bridge found in the past many movies and TV dramas.

5. Mt.Iwata Monkey park is located near in the west side of Togetsu-kyo Bridge. There are around 120 number of Japanese macaques living in the wild.
After you enter the entrance of the monkey park with paying admission fee, you can enjoy light trekking onto the Mt.Arashiyama mountain road for about 20 minutes with enjoying the mountain scenery and reach the top of the mountain. “ Kudos for Kashima! ”

Twelve days, four tourists and Kashima! We (two married couples aged 61-72) had a wonderful experience exploring Japan by (per our request) railway, taxi, bus, cable car, metro and by foot! Kashima successfully led us through Tokyo, Kobe, Kanazawa, Hakone, Kyoto, and Osaka. Kashima was on time, was flexible with our schedule when we changed our minds or wanted to rearrange our day. Kashima met us each morning at our hotel and helped us navigate the public transportation systems, acted as translator, answered cultural questions and ALWAYS maintained a positive, helpful and friendly manner. Kashima worked hard to arrange a special evening with an apprentice Geisha (Maiko) for us. This was something we wanted to experience but didn’t realize how difficult to find or arrange a “real” ... read more

KASHIMA:

Hello Robert san, Thank you very much for your very detail review of your ecellent experience you had during 12 days through tour in Japan and utmost great comments for me by taking your precious time. It was the first time for me to execute guding of 12 days through tour by using public transportation. Thanks to your deeply considered selection of tour spots from East to West including Kanazawa tour for me at the first time, and all your groups' strong interests to have experience of Japanese culture and to get knowledge of Japanese history, specially successive generations of Samurai top worriers and Zen Buddhism, I could improve my tour guide skill, specially about the great history of Japan from Heian era to Edo era until it has been truly unified and established with peace. “ Wonderful and informative guide. ”

Kashima was my guide for two days in Kyoto, I appreciated his able guidance through the various temples and monkey Park. The document he prepared for me is very informative and customized for me, I learned a lot thanks to his excellent guidance. Kashima was kind to showing me how to take the bullet train and not get lost in the train station. Excellent guide! Silvia

KASHIMA:

Hello Silvia san, Thank you very much for your great and utmost review for me. I am very much pleased that you enjoyed a lot for two days Kyoto tour. We visited Arashiyama, Tenryuji temple, Bamboo forest, Moon crossing bridge, Fushimi Inari shrine, Nijo castle, Gion, Monkey park, Ryoanji temple, Kinkakuji temple and Sanjusangendo temple. Specially, you had a lot of fun for Gion watching with Maiko crossing in the dark night at late evening, to play with Monkeys, Kinkakuji temple with beautiful three stories Golden pavilion and Sanjusangendo with one thousand Kannon statue inside there. I would like to be proud that I could took a miracle shot of your photo in Gion with Maiko lady behind you clearly while walking through by chance. I believe that you will keep the photo in your life. I... read more

“ Warm, knowledgable and accommodating ”

Kashima San hosted my wife, son and I on a days' tour of Tokyo. We had prearranged the itinerary to include some sites, some shopping and a museum. He met us at our hotel and talked us through the Tokyo Rail and Subway system which once you understand it is very efficient. We saw the Imperial Palace Bridges, Zozoji Temple (which is lovely), then we had time in Ginza including time in a quaint Japanese Print Shop Kashima San had identified for us. We finished in Shinjuku. Through out the day Kashima San let us take the time we wanted to see the sites, never rushing us, explaining the points of interest many you would miss without a guide. He also told us how to easily get to sights we wanted to see on the subsequent days We have no hesitation recommending Kashima San for yo... read more

KASHIMA:

Johnson san, Thank you very much for your detail and kind review for me by which I got lots of pleasure. I am pleased that you, your wife and your son (8 years old) enjoyed the tour a lot, specially you for the photos of various sight spots, your wife for watching various types of Kimono and shopping Japanese art prints (Ukiyoe paintings) in Ginza and your son to see tense Samurai play watching in Samurai museum. It was good for your wife to find lots of excellent Ukiyoe paintings and purchased them at S.WATANABE COLOR PRINT.Co. in Ginza. I hope that you also enjoyed your tour in Japan on following days. I am looking forward to supporting you again as a guide in the future. Thanks, Kashima

“ The Zen Temple in Arashiyama ”

I thought overall Kashima did a good job. At times, I struggled with understanding his English but we worked thru it. I was a little disappointed with the magnitude of the public transportation necessary to get to sites; and, at times Kashima was unsure of the correct subway or train line to take. It was a long, full day that was enjoyable but not sure I was recommended this particular itinerary and transportation approach to others.

KASHIMA:

Vikki san, Thank you very much for taking your time and writing useful review for me to improve in future. We visited Kyoto after picking you up at the cruise port in Osaka at 9am and escorted you back at the port by 5pm. The transportation between Osaka and Kyoto is by public transportation spending around 1hour and a half of one way. Within the time period, we visited Arashiyama area in Kyoto including Tenryuji temple, Bamboo forest, Togetsukyo-bridge(moon crossing). After that, we moved out from Arashiyama and visited Kinkakuji temple located north of Kyoto and moved to visit Fushimi Inari shrine located the south of Kyoto. Certainly, I could not well execute the time management to visit all of them with relaxed manner. I apologize that I forced you to rush to see the Fushimi Ina... read more
