Explore the back streets and alleyways of Kyoto’s Geisha districts in Gion and enjoy the contrast between the vibrant daytime and the serene evening after the crowds disappear. The urban wonders of the ancient capital Kyoto at dusk in the Gion district cannot be missed.
Feel free to personalize this offer with Takaaki.
The tour starts by strolling along the lovely Shirakawa canal. You’ll be surprised how quickly you can move away from the hustle and bustle of the main streets. We’ll take you to Geisha districts where you might be able to catch a glimpse of Geisha walking along the street. As the light fades and night falls, we’ll transition to the Yasaka/Higashiyama area. Here, we’ll enjoy walking along laneways in the historically preserved district, seeing a 5-story pagoda with its stunningly intricate structure before arriving at Yasaka Shrine, a major Shinto Shrine in Kyoto. After briefly taking a look at a quirky shrine where a deity of beauty is enshrined we’ll conclude the tour.read more

Takaaki was very communicative and open to many requests. He also did an excellent job with the tour!
We had a terrific 6 hour tour with Takaaki. He was super warm and friendly and very kind and informative. He met us at Kyoto station and then took us to the very popular Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine, filling our visit there with informative color. We then all had a nice lunch in a cozy neighborhood restaurant of soba/udon and sushi. After that, he made our son really happy by taking us to the Arashiyama Monkey Park, where we were able to feed apples and peanuts to baby monkeys. Then he took us to Nijo Castle and told us all about its history and unique characteristics. To finish, he brought us to Gion. While it was a super hot day, he kept us hydrated and even helped us find shaved ice. We thoroughly enjoyed our day with him and would definitely recommend him to others.
Thanks, Karen! I enjoyed guiding you and your family around Kyoto. We had a good laugh at the monkey park seeing the evil big monkey snatching food that was meant for a baby monkey :) You all managed the extreme hot weather well. Next time you are around Kyoyo, I will help you explore kyoto deeper!
