Overview

If you are tired of hustle and bustle in the cities, why don't you visit Arima Onsen Hot Spring?
Arima Onsen is one of the oldest hot springs in Japan. The town is very small and has a traditional and friendly atomosphere.

The history goes back to the 7th century, and numerous big figures came to visit. It has the highest concentration of salt, and you can actually bathe in.

What to Expect

There are two routes to go to Arima from Kobe.
One is to take trains from Shin-Kobe station. (From Shin-Osaka station, it's 15 min. by Shinkansen bullet train to Shin-Kobe station. From Osaka station it's 20 min. by JR Special Rapid train to Sannomiya station.)
By this route it takes only about 30 min. and will have more time in Arima.

The other route is a little more complicated, but you will have a great view of Rokko Mountain Range.
You will take a bus from JR Rokkomichi station(It's 30min. by JR Rapid train from JR Osaka.) to Rokko Cable station. From there you will take a cable car up the mountain, and get to Tenrandai Observatory. On top of the mountain there are several restaurants, a garden and a museum; you may enjoy having lunch in one of the restaurants there. Then we will take a bus to the Arima ropeway station.
The ropeway ride is quite exciting; you cannot believe it's less than an hour away from the city.
From the Arima ropeway station, it's about 20 min. walk to the town of Arima.

Exploring a Japanese hot spring town is a lot of fun and relaxing. You can stroll taking a bath at Kinsen(Gold bath) or Ginsen(Silver bath), visiting some sources of hot spring where you see steams coming up, visiting a museum of Japanese toy collection, and eating local senbei crackers or soba noodles.
If you prefer to eat authentic Japanese cuisine, you can at a restaurant in a Japanese inn.

On the way back, we will take trains/subways to either Shin-Kobe or JR Sannomiya station.

“ Fantastic time with Mari ”

I couldn't have paid for a better guide. I feel like I have a friend in Japan. Mari was very knowledgeable and spoke perfect English. She was nice, friendly and attended to our every need. She even helped us at a local pharmacy since all three of my children needed a decongestant. While having a guide is not cheap, making good use of your time is immeasurable. We saw everything on our wish list. Mari quickly changed plans when my kids came across a "cat and owl" cafe that they wanted to visit. I cant say enough. Very thankful! Sincerely, Maylin

Mari:

Dear Maylin, Thank you so much for your kind tour review. I had a wonderful time with you and your family in Kyoto! I felt very close to you too, and sharing many things with you was a lot of fun. Thank you for giving me such a nice experience. Mari

“ Mari was a joy to work with! ”

Mari helped us to design the day we wanted as an introduction to Osaka. She even helped us make the transportation arrangements to Toba (Mikimoto Pearl Island) that we had been unable to make. Because the weather was challenging as was the closure of the Sky Building due to typhoon repairs, she communicated with us frequently about re-designing our tour. We also made adjustments on the day of the tour and everything we did was just what we wanted too see. Mari is flexible, knowledgeable and has excellent Engish communication skills. We recommend her highly! We especially loved the trip to the market, the make-it-yourself okonomiyaki lunch and the trip to Osaka-jo. She was the best private day trip guide we had on our month in Japan!!

Mari:

Dear Joan, Your review made me so happy! It was my pleasure to show you major sites in Osaka. I think you cooked very well at the local Okonomiyaki restaurant! Thank you again for your very nice comments. Mari

“ Wonderful day in Kyoto ”

Mari was very good at showing us around Kyoto. She had the itinerary planned out so we could maximize our time and see the cultural aspect of the area. She chose a wonderful restaurant for lunch. Her English is very good. Highly recommend Mari.

Mari:

Dear Lynet, Thank you for your tour review. It was my pleasure to show you around the eastern part of Kyoto in the limited amount of time. Good to know you enjoyed lunch at the restaurant! Mari

“ Fabulous Day! ”

We spent a day with Mari touring the sites of Kyoto. She was very professional, starting with a quick reply once we booked, she was very knowledgeable about the history of the places we went, and she was also very nice. When my phone died unexpectedly, she even went out of her way to help me find a charger. She also helped me learn to navigate the public transportation system so I could get around by myself the next day. We had a great time with her and I would highly recommend her as a guide!

Mari:

Dear Kim, Thank you for your nice comments on the tour. I had an enjoyable day with you! I’m glad you could get a charger before visiting Golden Pavilion. That’s probably the most picturesque site. I hope you are having a great time in Kyoto! Mari
