Overview

If you are tired of hustle and bustle in the cities, why don't you visit Arima Onsen Hot Spring?
Arima Onsen is one of the oldest hot springs in Japan. The town is very small and has a traditional and friendly atomosphere.

The history goes back to the 7th century, and numerous big figures came to visit. It has the highest concentration of salt, and you can actually bathe in.

What to Expect

There are two routes to go to Arima from Kobe.
One is to take trains from Shin-Kobe station. (From Shin-Osaka station, it's 15 min. by Shinkansen bullet train to Shin-Kobe station. From Osaka station it's 20 min. by JR Special Rapid train to Sannomiya station.)
By this route it takes only about 30 min. and will have more time in Arima.

The other route is a little more complicated, but you will have a great view of Rokko Mountain Range.
You will take a bus from JR Rokkomichi station(It's 30min. by JR Rapid train from JR Osaka.) to Rokko Cable station. From there you will take a cable car up the mountain, and get to Tenrandai Observatory. On top of the mountain there are several restaurants, a garden and a museum; you may enjoy having lunch in one of the restaurants there. Then we will take a bus to the Arima ropeway station.
The ropeway ride is quite exciting; you cannot believe it's less than an hour away from the city.
From the Arima ropeway station, it's about 20 min. walk to the town of Arima.

Exploring a Japanese hot spring town is a lot of fun and relaxing. You can stroll taking a bath at Kinsen(Gold bath) or Ginsen(Silver bath), visiting some sources of hot spring where you see steams coming up, visiting a museum of Japanese toy collection, and eating local senbei crackers or soba noodles.
If you prefer to eat authentic Japanese cuisine, you can at a restaurant in a Japanese inn.

On the way back, we will take trains/subways to either Shin-Kobe or JR Sannomiya station.

“ Excellent tour with Mari! ”

Mari guided us to Nijo-jo Castle, Yakasaka shrine, Gion, Kiyomizudera Temple and countless other shops. Mari went the extra mile to make our experience 5 stars! We highly recommend her services and look forward to our next trip with her the next time we are in Kyoto area. Keep up the great job Mari! Dave & Cathy from California

Mari:

“ Fantastic three days! ”

My friend and I spent three days with Mari and it was a great experience all around. Without Mari I don't think we would have been able to get to as many places as we did. My friend and I travel a lot and often have troubles with guides slowing us down but that was never the case with Mari, who always kept up with us. She also was extremely knowledgeable and we learned a lot from her over the time we spent with her. I highly recommend Mari to anyone looking for a guide in the Kansai region. You will not be disappointed.

Mari:

Dear Zac, It was so nice to hear from you! I myself had a wonderful time with you. You gave me an opportunity to learn about other parts of the world, and I thank you for that. I think you’ll never forget the hot summer days in Japan! Mari

“ Half day tour in Kyoto ”

Mari was very accommodating with our tour and took us to the Temple,Market, and Gion. She answered all the questions we had and gave us some historic information. Mari is very outgoing and it made everyone comfortable chatting with her. My 7 year old son adores her. I would recommend her to other friends and family of mine.

Mari:

Hi Vivian, Thank you for your tour review. I'm happy to know you enjoyed the tour. It was very hot and busy in Kyoto on that day, and I'm sure you got a bit tired. I really enjoyed having you and your boy; he was a little gentleman! I hope I can see you and your friends in the future. Mari

“ Kyoto and Osaka ”

We spent a day in Kyoto and a day in Osaka with Mari. Mari was very knowledgeable on both place. We wouldn’t have been able to do all the things we wanted to do without her! She was friendly and easy to get along with. I would definitely recommend Mari to anyone who would ask!!

Mari:

Dear Maribeth, Thank you so much for your nice tour review. I had a wonderful time with your family. To tell you the truth, I was not sure if I should take you to Umeda Sky Building on a cloudy day for a city view, but it turned out to be nice! Also, I appreciated your comments on Osaka; they gave me a hint for my future tours. I hope you'll enjoy the rest of your stay in Japan. Mari

“ Kyoto area tour with our family ”

We enjoyed the most wonderful day with Mari. She greeted us exactly on time at our Ryokan in Kyoto. She had come up with a great plan for us as everything was in walking distance from where we were staying. She took time to explain historical facts with us and answered any questions we had. We were traveling with our two teenaged children and our 8 year old. She was very patient as it was a very hot day. Mari was especially helpful at lunchtime in ordering exactly what the children had in mind. We highly recommend Mari, she made our time in Kyoto very memorable. I must also add that the communication before our arrival was excellent.

Mari:

Dear Nicole, Thank you so much for your nice comments on the tour. I had a wonderful time with you too!! I'm glad to know you enjoyed the places we had planned. I was especially impressed that all of you including your children always listened carefully what I explained during the tour. Thank you again, Nicole! Mari
