Odawara is a castle town developed around the Odawara castle which was originally built at the end of the 15th century. Odawara prospered as one of the biggest post towns of Tokaido in the Edo era. We can visit Hotoku Ninomiya Shrine and look around the traditional shops in the town as well as the castle. It takes about 40 minutes to Odawara from Tokyo by the Shinkansen (bullet train), and it is suitable as a one-day trip from Tokyo.
