What to Expect

This tour is designed in order that you can enjoy the nature and history of Kamakura with some geographical and cultural understanding.
I’m sure your experiences in Kamakura will become more memorable when you ride local street cars and walk along historical pathways.
I was brought up in Kamakura and since I was ten years old, I have been walking around the city with friends, family, or even by myself. I know every corner of the city and its seasonal beauties, so I could make some change depending on the season or on your request.

1. Nice short walk from Kitakamakura station along a street lined with smaller atmospheric temples

2. Kenchoji temple, Japan’s oldest Zen temple constructed originally in the mid-13th century. It is a huge complex of historically important building structures and a beautiful garden *admission 500 yen/adult

3. Tsurugaoka Hachimangu, Kamakura’s main shrine constructed in the late 12th century *admission free

4. Fun walk along the main approach to the shrine and the sideway, Komachidori shopping street where you will find typical food and goods of Kamakura

5. Great Buddha (Daibutsu), the second largest Buddha statue in Japan, National Treasure *admission 200 yen/adult – local streetcar ride

6. Gokurakuji, small but historically interesting temple *admission free - enjoyable short walk along one of the 7 Kamakukra’s ‘kiridohshi’, historical pathways into Kamakura

7. Great view of Enoshima island, the official site of yacht race in the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020, and enjoy sea breeze and the view of Mt. Fuji when the weather is favorable - local monorail and streetcar ride

“ Walking Tour ”

We had a large group of people but Tomoko very skillfully managed to keep us all togther as we made our way around to the various sites using the train system. Tomoko was a mountain of knowledge and we all enjoyed our day with Tomoko very much.

Tomoko:

Hi Paul! Thank you so much for the great review and for all your cooperation and positive views(even running for the museum together) while touring around the busy market and downtowns. I really enjoyed the beautiful day with you all 😊 Please tell my gratitude to your brother, Mark, about giving me the opportunities to share our culture and history by his asking a lot of spontaneous questions on the way. Best wishes to you, your family, and your friends.

“ Highlights of Tokyo ”

I could tell just by listening to Tomoko's video that she was the person for us. She had a lovely personality and after only being with her for an hour or so, you felt that you had known her for a long time. She took us to some amazing places that no one on their first visit to Tokyo would ever know about. The metro system is very confusing and her knowledge of that was brilliant. I had asked for her to take us for a suchi lunch and she did take us to a really lovely restaurant. We also had some street food with her at the end of the day. She also took a lot of photos of us which she sent to us when she returned home. I fully recommend Tomoko as a guide, she was wonderful.

Tomoko:

Thank you for your great review and for finding me out as your Tokyo guide at the first stage of your MYSTERY tour to Asia. Oh, thank you also for assisting me to collect stamps there, hahaha. Although the weather was not much favorable, we laughed a lot and enjoyed many places, such as the traditional garden, Imperial Palace, Ginza, Asakusa, Shinjuku as well as the sushi place and the narrow Yakitori street. I’m sure you will be blessed with lots of happiness this year, 2020! Hope to see you again, Ian & Anne😊

“ Wonderful and warm guids ”

I will start by saying that our day spent with Tomoko felt like a day visiting a good friend. We started off our Japan trip with Tomoko and it was one of the most memorable. I was very hesitant to commit to anything because I have 2 small children aged 5 and 7. There is a lot of walking involved as a tourist throughout Japan and this often was difficult to manage with my 5 year old. Tomoko helped ease these fears by being so incredibly flexible with her schedule and also adding in some spontaneous fun and rest time for the children. Not only that, she came prepared with written material consisting of timelines of Japanese eras with their significance - I referred to these papers throughout our stay in Japan!! She did a wonderful job in giving me a quick overview of the art history too - ... read more

Tomoko:

Thank you for your passionate, detailed, great review, Shivani 😊 I’m glad to hear you thoroughly enjoyed your whole trip in Japan and are now settled at home. Depending on the family age, status, and the taste of each member, what we can enjoy will be varied. You love art and history, and your husband has great tastes in best food and advanced technology, while your adorable children are fond of crafts, animals, and trains! Shibuya and Harajuku are very fun places, but I just thought wondering there after visiting so many other places must be exhausting to your little ones. I’m very much proud of your hard work for research, preparation, and arrangement as a mother. Thank you again for sharing fun and heart-warming time with you all. Best wishes to you, Shivani, Rishi, Aasha, and Nirvaan. ... read more
